Are we now in full blown fascist totalitarianism?

How in fucking hell does that free Trump up from having to abide by the US Constitution?

The immigration situation was actually Trump's fault. It was high under Trump 1 and then Biden tried to work with Republicans to fix the immigration issues, but Trump told Republicans not to do anything so he could later claim he was coming in to save it as The Chosen One. So of course now MAGA followers will all say in unison that Dear Leader saved them--it was his plan to get them to believe that in the first place.

Likewise, the only problem with 'Obamacare' was Obama backed it. So of course the REPUgnant party had to oppose it.
Party politics is what's killing democracy.
The Great Negotiator.
He negotiates a treaty that would give us half of the Ukraine's resources. But then lets his ego get in the way.
He holds a press conference before the signing, And blindsides Zelenskyy with "You haven't thanked me in the last 5 minutes".
"The invasion is your fault".
Vance: "You haven't thanked him in the last 5 minutes".
'Random' reporter: "You insult Rump by not wearing a suit." (WTF)
Like Rump wanted Zelenskyy to walk out, and make Rump look good.
Deporting illegal immigrants is by definition legal.
Only after due process to prove they are illegal. The acquisitions alone are not enough. They are deporting legal green card holders too.
Actually, it's all a daily life in Ukraine and since Ukraine is part of US now.....
Your boss Putin claims it is part of Russia. Rump, not the US, wants to claim the mines. (maybe as a present to Uncle Putin)

Trump is doing an unprecedentedly feeble job of suppressing dissent for a totalitarian fascist dictator.
Two things:

* Trump isn't good at doing things, period. He's a cunning, malevolent dumbass who has been drunk with narcissism and power from the day he was born. Don't expect HIM to do anything. Watch the billionaires who control him, starting with Putin and Musk.

* Were you expecting a morning announcement that the US Constitution is now null and void, and anyone who says otherwise is now subject to arrest, torture, deportation or defenestration? They're softening the ground for that, but it's going to take 6-8 years. Just be sure to vote for Trump in '28 if you want to see it come to full fruition.
Love how conservatives can only ever use straw man arguments. Various things have to happen first over time, no one was saying Trump would suddenly become dictator the moment he became president. But too hard for conservatives to understand.

I read the article I'm going to gift yesterday and thought it was interesting and relevant today. It's also strange that both sides acuse each other of being Orwellian, when it seems pretty obvious that one side is far more Orwellian than the other. Or how about just saying that one of these things is not like the other.....

We Are All Living in George Orwell’s World Now

He is easy to quote, but what would the iconoclastic British socialist really have thought about politics today?

By Matthew Purdy
  • March 29, 2025

As Vice President JD Vance dressed down European officials over two days last month for criminalizing far-right speech, his outrage built to the unkindest cut of all. “This is Orwellian,” he trumpeted, “and everyone in Europe and the U.S. must reject this lunacy.”

A day later, Orwell reappeared — this time wielded against President Trump after his truth-mangling suggestion that Ukraine was somehow responsible for Russia’s invasion. Even a fellow Republican, Representative Don Bacon of Nebraska, couldn’t resist: “Putin started this war,” he posted on X, adding, “I don’t accept George Orwell’s doublethink.”

And as Trump unleashed a torrent of norm-puncturing executive orders — declaring newly forbidden words here, renaming a body of water there, making assertions that seemingly mean their polar opposite — so many references to “1984” have flooded the political conversation that it feels as if nearly half the electorate joined the same book group. After the White House took facts on a loop-de-loop, claiming that officials who revealed details of strike plans in Yemen on a Signal chat had not disclosed classified information, hundreds of people posted the same Orwell quote on social media: “The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.” T-shirts with the same line are available on Etsy for as low as $16. So is one with a fake Orwell quip: “I literally wrote a book to warn you all about this.”

It's a long essay, so if you have the time and energy, read it and tell us what you think.

So now the government admits one father who had protected status and was not to be sent to El Salvador was sent there anyway due to an "administrative error", and then basically says "oh well, nothing we can do about it now."

The "administrative error" excuse sounds like pure bullshit to me. It seems obvious they had a quota and an order to remove them on that Saturday from ICE bosses, and maybe even Tom Homan, Marco Rubio, and Trump himself. They just grabbed anyone and everyone they could to meet the quota.

You say one has nothing to do with the other but it really does. The performance of Biden and the Dramacrats had everything to do with this. If Biden had done 1/10 of a job that Trump has done on border patrol, none of this drama would have needed come to pass. The criminals would not even be here to begin with so Auxlus would then have no tears to shed on their departure today.
Who was the president from 2021 to January 2025 again?

Is this another example of RVonse being led astray by the right-wing blowhards he listens to?

Who knew you could make immigration go down by breaking the law?

You may prefer to use the constitution as toilet paper, but the rest of us say "Fuck No" to fascist dictatorship.

Given Trump's history and prior statements, how do we know whether the number of encounters hasn't gone down simply because they stopped counting them?

Or because they have become really bad at intercepting "invaders".

20 minutes of the filibuster. Schiff showing-off his part in it.

Did he actually say anything useful during the marathon?

Booker and Schiff are two of my favorites. I wish Booker could have gotten more traction in the 2020 primary.

I've always liked Booker and as a person who grew up in New Jersey, he makes me feel a bit better about my native state. He's a very smart, compassionate person, who even ran into a burning building to rescue some people when he was mayor of Newark, NJ. I would have loved having him as president, and was thrilled to see him give that long speech.

I read that he wanted to out do Strum Thurman, the racist who spoke for over 23 hours against the civil rights movement in the 60s. Cory did it! Yay Cory!

Our fascist totalitarian overlords have failed to obtain Republican control of the Wisconsin Supreme Court. This is after great efforts by Elon Musk to win a seat there for a Republican candidate.

Edit: I see @Elixir has given this a "Like," so perhaps I should point out that I was being sarcastic. I do not think there would be free elections under a fascist totalitarian regime.

Except that the filibuster is actually to prevent legislation. This had nothing to do with preventing any legislation I am aware of. All the theater amounted to was pure showmanship for the Dramacrats.

Well if it makes them feel better while keeping them busy not doing anything useful against Trump, I hope they continue more of this as well.

It is quite something that you are so in support of Trump's actions, that if he got everything he wanted, you'd be working into your 90s and wiping your ass with American currency.
