Are people already regretting their choice?

https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-supporting-federal-workers-think-085901826.html?fr=sycsrp_catchall

  • Some federal workers said they voted for Trump thinking he'd help the economy and struggling Americans.
  • While they support cutting government waste, some don't think all federal workers should be targeted.
Many federal workers have expressed outrage and despair at President Donald Trump's workforce mandates — but what about those who filled in the bubble next to his name on the ballot?

"I voted for Trump. I wanted to see some positive change," a federal employee of 17 years told Business Insider, adding that they didn't know that change would put them at risk of losing their job.

I apologize if this has already been mentioned, but it's becoming obvious that federal employees who voted for Trump are regretting their choice. I read this morning that about 38% of federal employees voted for Trump. I'm glad my son wasn't one of them and he's still employed. ( so far )

This whole slaughtering Federal Jobs was an emergent thing after we found out Musk helped get Trump across the line. Assange in 2016, Musk in 2024. Now the people that trusted Trump with the economy are seeing their economic world being undone.

Vote for an asshole who tried to steal an election, win dumb prizes.

Fascinating that an alleged scientist ignored the facts in front of his face.
Should that cause them to lose their “science job”?
Tongue in cheek, the more I think about, the more I say yes because they must be a shitty scientist.

No, I don't think the alleged scientist should lose his job because he voted for Trump. IMO, he deserves no sympathy because he got what he expected to happen to others.

And a big shout out to blastula for these updates. I find them both fascinating and depressing!

Interesting analysis in the NYT shows that retaliatory tariffs by China, Canada and Europe, in response to Trump's tariffs, will disproportionately hurt counties that voted for Trump
. . .
I wonder how much of this was planned to more impact Trump voters.

Many sources report that Canada, at least, is targeting red states specifically.
Justin Trudeau ... clarified the retaliation will also include “precision strikes” against red states, with tariffs on Kentucky whiskey, Florida oranges, and appliances from South Carolina, according to The Wall Street Journal.
BUT a quick Google doesn't find a complete sentence uttered by Trudeau. Perhaps complete sentences are behind paywall. Or perhaps it would be impolitic for Canada's leader to be so frank.

Snap elections are due soon in Canada. A big issue IIUC is whether Canada should imitate Trump, or resist such fascist tendencies.

In any case, rational Americans should extend a big Thank You to Canada and other countries who -- at great economic sacrifice and possible geopolitical risk -- resist Trumpist insanity. Americans must unite and do so also, but it's hard: The fascists are punishing non-violent protestors with arrests and deportations.

As always, thank you, crazyfingers, for the gifted links!

Thinking about the NY Times maps I realize they attempt to combine too much information -- vote, exports, tariffs, jobs -- into two color shades. The points, if valid at all, are lost in the crudity of this transform.

Still, it might be interesting that L.A. County is shown in light green rather than dark green. L.A. County is a big exporter of Hollywood films (which employ mostly Harris voters?). Out of curiosity (and if that red-blue alignment were reversed) would putting "tariffs" on American movies be easy or appropriate?

Something that would shake America's economy and geopolitical power severely would be for Europe to increase the roles of Europe's financial centers, moving to gradually bypass New York's stranglehold on world finance.

A self-described “MAGA junkie” says she regrets voting for Donald Trump after she was fired from her job in the federal government.

Jennifer Piggott of West Virginia told CNN she was one of 125 probationary employees fired from the Treasury Department’s Bureau of Fiscal Service last month as part of Trump’s efforts to downsize the federal government.

Thank you for these updates. That there is some form of cosmic justice helps me cope even if it is stochastic.

My idiot highly educated brother in law hasn't admitted yet that he shouldn't have voted for Trump but he does regret losing over a million bucks in the stock market. I don't feel one bit sorry for him. How much more of his remaining 6 millions will he lose? Will he ever admit that he made a mistake by voting for a sociopathic felon in hopes of getting a tax break? He's retired now, so his primary income will be SS. That is if he can sign up for it after the asshole fired so many SS employees.

Meghan McCain didn't vote for either Trump or Harris, which still counts as a vote for Trump to me.

Meghan McCain said Tuesday she’s “absolutely heartbroken” to learn that the recently passed government spending bill wipes out an important source of funding to research glioblastoma, the brain cancer that killed her father.

“My fellow republicans - this is wrong,” the former co-host of “The View” wrote on social media, sharing information about Congress’ cuts to the Defense Department’s Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP), which funds research into various cancers at the National Institutes of Health.

“My father and millions of others have been treated there for Glioblastoma and other brain cancers with miracle doctors and nurses,” she said of her father, the late Sen. John McCain, who died in 2018. Glioblastoma treatments that have come out of NIH research constitute “nothing short of a miracle,” she continued.

Fuck you! If Lynne fucking Cheney got the point, what was your excuse. Also, I'm so sorry that the budget cut out something you thought was important, as if there aren't a lot of other important things that were cut out... just that you lack the intelligence and empathy to give a damn.

Your father had the courage to vote among the Democrats to stop ACA from being iced. Where was your courage in 2024?

Jim Cramer just finding out Trump is a moron.

Though I can't remember the exact details, I have this distinct memory of Jim Cramer being utterly destroyed/discredited by Jon Stewart many years ago. I haven't cared for a word Cramer has said since. I remember being such a thorough whipping that I was honestly surprised that Cramer still had a show after that.

That some moron finally realizes someone else is even more moronic is no news worth paying attention to.

Stewart had found a video of Cramer talking about how he would pump up investments with articles and fake news in order to then dump them after they puffed up. He admitted that the stuff even need to be true, just put it out there and make your money.

Stewart had Cramer on and Cramer clearly wasn't expecting to be blindsided with the video. It impacted Cramer's career... as in not at all. God bless America!

Pump and dump schemes were very popular some time back. They might still be for all I know. The idea is that a lot of traders agree to buy a certain stock, let it rise and then dump it before it falls.

I saw Cramer on CNBC praising Trump this morning, but it might have been a recording from a former day. I only put the station on to see how futures were doing. The Dow is down almost 2000 points right now. I'm glad we have less than 20% of our assets in the market. If it were all up to me, it's be zero for now.

Fixed that for her.

Your fucking gods did nothing. The "miracle" was just the functional government that your party decided to throw in the garbage, because they didn't understand anything about it other than that it needed taxes in order to exist, and you don't like taxes.

I scrapped my car because I don't like paying for gasoline, and now I am shocked and angry to discover that the "miracle" of getting from place to place with ease and comfort has mysteriously vanished!

Speaking of cheating on the stock market, wait until Trump decides to reverse the tariffs. Tells his friends buy today, the tariffs go away tomorrow.

The new and improved version is predictable futures. They get predictable when a known fraud is in a position to send markets up or down by spouting this bullshit or that bullshit. The Fraud just lets his friends know what bullshit he's about to spout, and they multiply their fortunes accordingly. Nothing illegal about that!

It didn't even require courage, just a bit of common sense and empathy. (Which is basically what you said in your first paragraph, but it bears repeating).

Defense Department’s Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program
Does it worry anybody else that the DoD has a medical research program?
Are they trying to weaponize Glioblastoma?
I also would have defunded that program.
the "miracle" of getting from place to place with ease and comfort has mysteriously vanished!
I know that feeling.
I lived in a city until 2020.
I moved to a small town with NO bus service. 40 miles from the nearest city.
(no taxi or Uber either)

Does it worry anybody else that the DoD has a medical research program?
Not really. It would worry me if they didn't.

Historically, armies have always suffered massively from disease. Indeed, the first time in history in which a combatant army at war suffered fewer casualties from disease than they did from enemy action, was the Vietnam War in the 1960's and '70s.

Penicillin (and particularly the technique for its mass production) was a closely guarded military secret from shortly after its discovery in 1928, until the end of WWII. That's why Fleming, Florey and Chain weren't awarded their Nobel until 1945.

The military has been at the forefront of medical research for as long as medical research has existed.
