Minnesota has a new flag

So any exemption granted to anyone to any ordnance is de facto submission to something?
Let me ask you something else. Why is it so important for you and a few others to defend Minneapolis and the Islamists when the policy is so wrong on its face? You'd expect an atheist forum to be more critical of politicians giving special rights to religious institutions. But when it's Islamic institutions, you are suddenly all in favor. Why?
I will answer your question even though you didn’t answer mine.

It is not wrong on the face of it. The Minneapolis noise ordinance has plenty of exemptions. In the grand scheme of things, this special treatment is small potatoes in relation to the special treatment that traditional religious institutions receive. If it makes Muslims feel more like the general community, it is a good tradeoff.

Why is it so important to you to criticize the exemption? Especially since you have evidence whatsoever that it is a problem for any affected neighbor.

On a similar note, Islam invented neither the color green,
No, and nobody claimed that. But it is associated with Islam, which is why for example Hamas terrorists wear greed headbands and why their flag is green.
nor Minnesota's state motto.
"Star of the North". Nothing about the color green or giving Muslims special rights to annoy their neighbors.
Street gang logic? Grow up.

I'm not pro-Islam. I'm anti-paranoia against Islam. Big difference.

Name one other group being allowed to blast amplified advertisements for itself at 3AM.
Of course it's wrong on its face. It's only fauxgressive internalized islamophilia that blinds you to it.

Islam is a "traditional religious institution".

By giving them special rights?

Because it's an example of a camel sticking its nose into the tent.
And I have no way to know what complaints have been made in the city of Minneapolis and neither do you (i think). But this is a discriminatory policy on its face. You would not be defending it if it was an Evangelical church blasting Lord's Prayer at 3AM. So why the deference to Islam?

Gee, I don't know anyone who struggles to cope with not everyone acknowledging the superiority of his culture as he understands it...
Whatever do you mean by this?
Let me ask you concretely: do you think Muslims should have an exception from noise ordinances? Do you think they should have the right to wake people up at 3AM by blasting chants from loudspeakers mounted on towers?
I agree with you on this. This is bullshit.

With his obvious attempt to use a more sympathetic example to distract from the obvious absurdity of his conspiracy theory about the Minnesota state flag, which even he doesn't really believe?

Yes 100%. Anyone who disagrees deserves the death penalty.

Are you satirizing white nationalists?

Islam is a "traditional religious institution".
Not in the USA.

By respecting their culture and religion. Like granting Christ’s birthday as a holiday.

That’s a high level of paranoia.

I suspect the Islamaphobe grapevine would have publicized complaints.

You have no clue what I would do or not do. I live peaceably within earshot of the carillions or bells of 8 Christian churches.

But there are plenty of exemptions in the Minneapolis noise policy that are discriminatory but escape your SJW instincts.

Would I have approved the exemption as written? No. But the citizens of Minneapolis seem okay with it. There is no evidence of problems. I am unaware that any other group seeking similar exemptions or analogous ones to other ordnances have been denied.

Yet you feel the need to dwell on a situation more than 1000 miles away that does nit appear to a problem for those affected because of ?

We have a resident of Minneapolis who regularly posts here on IIDB.

They expressed an extremely reasonable opinion when this first came up, a year or two ago. I don't remember the exact wording, but the jist was clear. "It's a big urban area. There's tons of noise pollution, all day and night. I have more trouble with the 'exhaust impaired' vehicles and people blaring music than the Muslim call to prayer."
For once, they seemed sensible.

I don't like cities to live in. I prefer the quiet out here, in semi rural Indiana. So that's what I chose.

Are you satirizing white nationalists?
No. Are you satirizing islamophiles?
Not in the USA.
First mosque in the US was built in 1929 apparently, almost a full century ago.
In any case, Islam is a traditional religion, not the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster or something like that.
By respecting their culture and religion. Like granting Christ’s birthday as a holiday.
You can respect somebody's culture without giving them exemptions from laws (such as those concerning loud noises at 3AM).
As to Christmas, it has a long history as a holiday in the West, and even many non-Christians celebrate it. What would you like? Have Muslim holidays instead?
Besides, Christmas (as well as Easter) have pre-Christian roots anyway.
That’s a high level of paranoia.
It is not. That's a high level of obliviousness on your part.

How many of them blast amplified calls to prayer at 3 AM in the Summer?
But there are plenty of exemptions in the Minneapolis noise policy that are discriminatory but escape your SJW instincts.
The SJW is you. And give me some concrete examples of these "plenty of exemptions".
Would I have approved the exemption as written? No.
Then why are you so hell-bent to defend it?
But the citizens of Minneapolis seem okay with it.
All of them? Or is it the fauxgressive far-left city council that is ok with it?
There is no evidence of problems. I am unaware that any other group seeking similar exemptions or analogous ones to other ordnances have been denied.
Church of Satan should do it just to make a point. They do it to point out hypocrisy favoring Christianity. About time they did it for Islam as well.
Yet you feel the need to dwell on a situation more than 1000 miles away that does nit appear to a problem for those affected because of ?
I would not be dwelling on it so much you and your Ilk on here were not so eager to defend this.

Is it Jarhyn? He is a far leftist. For example, he cheered Target stores being vandalized during the George Floyd insurrection and said that they deserve it because they have the habit to call cops on shoplifters (how dare they!)

No wonder he is also an Islamophile.

Yes 100%. Anyone who disagrees deserves the death penalty.
Obsequiousness to Islam will not save you. The Islamic Revolution in Iran showed that. Leftists participated in overthrowing the Shah, but the Islamists went after them as soon as they took power.

Noteable that Derec has said absolutely nothing about the Christian right's plan to take over the government, which they are succeeding at.

I'm not pro-Islam. I'm anti-paranoia against Islam. Big difference.
Other than cheap insults, you islamophiles have nothing.
For the record, I am anti-pronoia about Islam that so many on the Left are suffering from.
Where "basic pronoia" is code for accepting that the 1st amendment, and its protection of religious affiliation as a choice that should be able to make freely without becoming government persecution, is a general legal principle in this country?

Which part of the 1st Amendment states that mosques may blast amplified calls to prayers at 3AM?
This was a political decision by a far left city council. It was not a court case before SCOTUS that argued that they had a 1st Amendment right to do this.

WHY IS IT WHEN CHRISTIANS TRY TO TAKE OVER THE GOVERNMENT AND DESTROY OUR FREEDOM, SUDDENLY DEREC'S ALL FOR IT???

WTF dude?!
No, it was me saying that the opinion expressed was reasonable and sensible.

How about you respond to what I posted, instead of launching into insults and accusations? The only reason I mentioned Jarhyn is because Jarhyn actually lives there.

As opposed to you.
Tom

ETA ~Wanna talk about what I actually said? Instead of going off on an islamophobic rant, blaming Jarhyn for having an opinion about the place they live?"

That's too bad because your "It's only fauxgressive internalized islamophilia that blinds you to it." is classic bigoted stupidity.

Yes, Christmas has a long history in the West as a holiday because Islam doesn't have a long history in the West. Whether you like it or not, Muslims have the right to the free exercise of their religion guaranteed by the 1st Amendment of the US Constitution.
That’s a high level of paranoia.
It is not. That's a high level of obliviousness on your part.
Really, what are the next steps now that "the camel's nose is in the tent". Be specific,.
You have no clue what I would do or not do. I live peaceably within earshot of the carillions or bells of 8 Christian churches.
How many of them blast amplified calls to prayer at 3 AM in the Summer?
None, but plenty ring their bells early in the morning.
But there are plenty of exemptions in the Minneapolis noise policy that are discriminatory but escape your SJW instincts.

Nah, I am not fighting discrimination, you are. Educate yourself - Minneapolis Noise Ordinance. Section 389.60 is the relevant part.
Would I have approved the exemption as written? No.
Then why are you so hell-bent to defend it?
I am not hell-bent on anything. The people of Minneapolis have spoken through their elected representatives. As far as I know, this has not spread throughout the US. So why are you obsessed this? If you think Minneapolis is filled with leftists, then you need to get used to their lefty ideas because they are not listening to someone in Georgia whine about they wish to organize and live their lives,
But the citizens of Minneapolis seem okay with it.
All of them? Or is it the fauxgressive far-left city council that is ok with it?
You've had ample opportunity to present evidence of complaints. You have come up with nothing but your bigoted opinions. Did any of the council members lose their seats over this issue? Clearly, it is not a big deal there.
There is no evidence of problems. I am unaware that any other group seeking similar exemptions or analogous ones to other ordnances have been denied.
Church of Satan should do it just to make a point. They do it to point out hypocrisy favoring Christianity. About time they did it for Islam as well.
You should tweet them that suggestion.

You're the one who resurrected the debate in this thread. Its you and your ilk who have problems with this. Not me.
