Dude, There are like a billion strains of Covid in nature and as an RNA virus it mutates super fast.
Dude, it's more complicated than that.
Dude: it’s not complicated. You’re illiterate re: virology. In fact, it IS most likely that COVID 19 originated in bats.

No, you are illiterate. And i never said it did not have origin in bats. It just that origin is not immediate. Immediate origin appears to be not present in nature which suggest it was in a some lab.

Again, you are the one illiterate here.

You can't even quote thread properly.
You are scientifically illiterate and the evidence you are demanding is stupid.
That's rich, coming from you to a PhD in physics.
Exhibit A right here. You felt the need to do it in 2 posts. You can't even multi quote. Some people would call that incompetence. From you I call it typical.

Oh, good. More illiterate bullshit from barbs. Bet he thinks the bullshit from the pillow guy RVonse loves so much is meaningful scientific discourse,

What a sad joke. I hope you are allergic to windows Barbs because you are shit at your job, mate.

As has been pointed out at least twice, the virus which causes COVID 19 is a RNA virus,, which mutate much more readily than do DNA viruses. We’ve certainly seen that as multiple strains have emerged since it was first identified in humans, less than 6 years ago, necessitating updated vaccines at least annually.

Here is one article: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9874793/

We further know that viruses that infect one species ( in this case, bats) can be either harmless when it infects another species ( humans in this case) or cause illness in the new hosts, which this virus does.

Another well known example of a virus that originated in another species but was transmitted to humans would be the HIV virus.

I’m sorry that is too much for you to understand.

Yes, prior to 3 months ago, the US system of government is vastly different than Russia’s dictatorship. Up until then, we believed in a balance of power and the rule of law.
You have not had any balance of power in the last 40 years.
You are vastly ill informed.
You are projecting. and you are remarkably clueless.
Your replies are continual evidence of "every accusation is a confession".

In Russia, every statement is a confessions, as is keeping silent.

Before Biden left office he made sure Fauci would be protected so no need to wonder about that. But I am wondering what the left leaning people on this board think of this? Do you still believe in what Fauci did during the pandemic? And even more important, do you still feel he was representing your best interest conducting gain of function research before the pandemic? Do you believe the subcommittee research pdf found on the government website represents a biased view?

Was Trump right all along??

We'll never know for sure. I've done a lot of reading on this, and it appears more likely that covid came from a bat. We don't see evidence that it was engineered. Below is a good nonbiased site on this. My guess is that its 2/3 likely that it was naturally occurring; 1/3 that it came from a lab leak. Why is this such a big deal with the Maga world BTW?

We have two distinct lineages, the probability is very high that they represent multiple zoonotic jumps. And we have various reports that suggest something Covid-like but with an R0 well below 1. Whatever the source it pretty much has to be a virus that was one mutation away from being able to sustain itself in humans. Was that precursor from a lab? I doubt we will ever be able to prove it one way or the other.

As for the "coincidence" of a level 4 lab near the center of the origin--pick any area in China with that density and you have an 80% chance of there being a level 4 lab in the area.

Holy … fuck.

This is the official taxpayer-supported White House website being used … to slander a man.

A biological characteristic not found in nature???

ALL
biological characteristics are found in nature by definition.

Trump, being an utter imbecile, no doubt has NO IDEA what a virus even is, or that they evolve.

This man need to be removed from office.

Correct. Covid dosn't seem to have the hallmarks of a lab engineered virus. I'm not an expert. And it's not 100%. We'll never know for sure. But agree with you that this is another example of the fact that conservatives don't understand science.
It's certainly not lab engineered. Why in the world would China engineer it? They're not stupid enough to use something like that as a bioweapon.

Nothing Fauci said was in any way different than any other virologist in the world.

The countries where their leaders actually did listen to their medical experts didn't have to use ice cream trucks as impromptu morgues. The US did.

It is fucking mental to even suggest Trump was right about his most famous fuckup.
Disagree--while we could have done better the horses were already long gone before anyone even saw the barn. Our status as being the premier nation in the world ensured we would be screwed by something like this. Doing well took both competence and luck in not being such a crossroads of the world and thus having far fewer cases when the alarm was sounded.

I suspect it's only a matter of time the CDC website is going to be replaced with simply an FAQ on the medical benefits of leaches.
They do have a niche use in modern medicine.

And in the old days there were a range of conditions for which they would have been helpful. But in the times of old they weren't able to actually assess when they would be of benefit.

Consider: to this day there is exactly one treatment for hemochromatosis: bloodletting. Done right, you'll live a normal life. Not done, you eventually die of it. And the medical world is stupid about it--the blood taken from a hemochromatosis patient is perfectly good for anyone other than another hemochromatosis patient. It should be marked accordingly and put into the normal blood supply rather than destroyed.

Over here, it is.

A friend of mine with hemochromatosis was a familiar and welcome sight at the blood bank, because they knew that he could be relied upon to donate regularly.

I find it astonishing that any medical system would routinely discard blood from this source. Why would they do that??

Zoonosis is common.
You need provide evidence of that. And people tried and failed badly at that.
Zoonotic diseases are very common.

Yes, they are. And yet they failed to find close enough COVID relatives in the wild.
Covid is actually labeled SARS-Cov-2. The original being SARS. But SARS didn't spread as well and, most crucially, didn't have asymptomatic spread. There's also MERS, another closely related virus that fortunately has a very low R0.

Since it has two definitely known natural cousins why would you think it doesn't exist in nature?

And we have many hints that there's something around like it but with a very low R0.

Covid blew up because of a mutation that made it spread better amongst humans. And it's done it twice since then--Delta and then Omicron. Two known natural mutations that improved it's ability to spread, why is a third considered impossible?

You said I needed to provide evidence zoonotic diseases are common. Now you agree that they are.
No, you needed to provide evidence of COVID natural source in the wild.
That's not the way science works. You are asserting the unusual: that it's not natural. The burden of proof is on you.

“The virus possesses a biological characteristic not found in nature.”
@RVonse, this is the very first item on the web site you linked. Italics theirs. Could you explain to us what that is supposed to mean, please?

I don't know about whether Trump was right, but I know Fauci should be held accountable for crimes against humanity with Covid and long before that. Aids in the 80s for a start. The file below is a PDF, fairly large. You have to download it.
Let's look at that:
piece of shit said:
Reporting to the President that as many as 2.2 million deaths may result from a pathogen that had not yet been isolated and could not be measured with any accuracy, Dr. Fauci intimidated and coerced the population and the government into reckless, untested, and harmful acts creating irreparable harm to lives and livelihoods.18 Neither the Imperial College nor the “independent” Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (principally funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation)19 had any evidence of success in estimating previous burdens from coronavirus but, without consultation or peer-review, Dr. Fauci adopted their terrifying estimates as the basis for interventions that are explicitly against medical advice.

In other words, his "wrong" was making suggestions based on a "preposterous" estimate--but history shows us that he did an incredible job of getting it right. Assuming the paper didn't just make things up he's estimating 2.2 million, whereas the data I'm finding now is 1.2 million and that's well below what I recall from the past. Being off by only a factor of 2 is doing extremely well given what he had to work with.

piece of shit said:
In both the Imperial College and the IHME simulations, quarantines were modeled for the sick, not the healthy.

And black is white. Either this guy is a moron who doesn't know what "quarantine" means or it's a deliberate deception.

Rvonse and Barbos (both prone to authoritarian sycophancy) can't easily accept a natural explanation for
I merely agree and parrot the correct and truthful claim that origin in nature was NOT found.
And then combine it with circumstantial evidence which points to a lab leak and conclude that lab leak is more likely. I am ready to change my opinion once they find the source in nature, but so far they failed.
Dude, There are like a billion strains of Covid in nature and as an RNA virus it mutates super fast. You probably can't even find OG 2019 Covid wild in Human populations anymore. You are scientifically illiterate and the evidence you are demanding is stupid.
It went extinct long ago.

I have no comprehension of why our system is messed up about this. They're not given a choice, it's considered biohazard material.
