Donald Trump’s Diminutive IQ

Trump was smart enough to win POTUS twice. QED.

This presupposes that you have to be smart to be elected POTUS. Granted, you have to have certain wiles, but that is not the same as intelligence.

I hate to disagree. It presumes you have to smart enough. Trump’s victories suggest to me the bar isn’t that high.

Given the anti-science, anti-college, anti-expert, pro-ignorance attitude more and more conservatives/GOP embrace these days, I'd say the bar has lowered a great deal in the last several decades.

Google serves up pages which claim to estimate Presidential IQs. With this thread topic and my fetish for Lists, I checked several of the lists just now. There was much variance among the lists, but the consensus seemed to show as the Top Twelve:
  1. JQ Adams
  2. Jefferson
  3. JFK
  4. Madison
  5. Clinton
  6. Carter
  7. Wilson
  8. J. Adams
  9. Obama
  10. Garfield
  11. Arthur
  12. T. Roosevelt
There is MUCH controversy about the "IQs". JFK, for example, was tested at IQ=118 as a young man, casting doubt on his high rank here.
Note that some of the "Greatest" -- Washington, Lincoln, FDR -- are missing from this Top Twelve List. Other than FDR (ranked about #13), Trump(!?) and the four shown on this Consensus Top Twelve, all Presidents since Wilson scored poorly, especially the Bushes.

Although not a candidate for "The Top Twelve", Trump was ranked about #16 by at least two lists! Here is one comment:
"I think he's our most cunning president, and I think there is a certain amount of intellect that that requires," says Perry, director of presidential studies at the University of Virginia's Miller Center. "So, maybe for some presidents, they make up for lack of native brilliance and intelligence with cleverness."

"Intelligence" is not a single-faceted attribute and it IS possible for a semi-literal sociopath with the emotional maturity of a nine year-old, and lacking all intellectual curiosity to score high in "practical intelligence"; and achieve success -- especially if the sociopath has strong talents as criminal and con-man.

The problem with Trump is not just his stupidity but the fact that he is concerned solely with day-to-day ego gratification and lacks all regard for the country or the future.

Didn’t he just claim the other day that he scored off the charts on a cognitive test and weighed only 225 pounds? Yeah, more like 275.
In his first term, when he weighed considerably more, the reports said he weighed 239. the reason for that number is that this is the threshold of "obese". I put this picture of me on Facebook after that. They said he weights 239 and in this picture I weighed 242.

W wasn't the high bar either. His accomplishments amounted to doing things that the son of a professional DC Bureaucrat does. His entire political persona was simulated.

HW Bush was the last Republican elected by the base in 50 years that wasn't a complete fool when it came to governing. The GOP had candidates that were not idiots, Romney and Dole, that is a short list, but they didn't win.
