We Need More Kids

Geez, the women you all are ridiculing sound a lot like my mom! A devout Christian woman, got her Mrs degree at San Jose State, had 4 kids, was a lifelong housewife (with occasional part time home teaching and substitute teaching jobs), was in the PTA, a cub scout Den Mother and totally dependent on my dad. Loved to be in the kitchen (not barefoot though!) cooking for her family and taking care of babies, children, cats and the house. Or working in the garden. She enjoyed her lifestyle. One of the kindest people you'd ever meet. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
I definitely think that the way people in left-wing circles talk about women who choose "traditional" roles often reveals some sublimated misogyny. Which is not surprising, we're all part of the same culture, dealing with the same issues. I'd like to hope, though, that no one intended to insult your mother particularly.

"2.7 is the real number needed to avoid long-term extinction."
Well if you are talking 'long term', don't worry about the number. That will fluctuate.
If/when we ever get close to extinction, people WILL start having more kids.
What we are realy worried about at the moment is maintaning constant economic growth.
We have foolishly adapted to the 'growing population' model, so that slowing growth looks like a problem, when it doesn't need to be.
Just like we once thought a growing population would be a problem.

I strongly recommend against getting your 'information' from the movies.
The same logic of this movie is the same logic that is heard frequently. And it is nothing more than common sense.
I strongly recommend against getting your 'information' from "common sense", which is just a self congratulatory way of saying "a hunch I have, that I don't feel like testing for accuracy or truth".

According to "common sense", nature abhors a vacuum, an object in motion will remain in motion only if supplied with an external force, and lead can be transmuted into gold by chemical processing.
One only has to read the speeches of our leaders to get a good idea of how humanity has been progressing with average intelligence. The current POTUS talks like a 4th grader and was elected because that is the current vocabulary of the US now.

And after reading some of the documents of our history from Washington, Jefferson, or Lincoln.....I'm firmly in the camp that the human race has become less intelligent over time. Despite what your article might suggest.

I'm just observing the reality I live in and nothing more.
For the bolded, one should substitute Americans. Humans are doing fine.

I have a simpler alternative. We currently live in the age of smartphones and social media, which means uploading crap of idiots being idiots is easier than it has been in human history. Search in youtube "only in *insert country here*". I for one would never call WWI generals of any country intellectuals. And imagine if a country created a Federal Law Enforcement Agency today solely because an egg was thrown at a politician. The fucking memes would be phenomenal nowadays. So the idea that the people of yesteryear were intrinsically smarter is downright laughable.

The fact the 90% of 7 billion is larger than 90% of 1 billion doesn't mean humans are getting dumber. It means 100% of MAGA are so fucking stupid they don't understand proportions. There are more smart people alive now than in any other point in human history. I'm no fucking genius, but I'd hope that I'm self aware enough to know a fact when it hits me in the frelling face.

There is a white elephant in the room, which is to say, the wrong people are having kids. This is not too far away from a bunch of wannabe tough guys parading with Tiki torches and chanting "Jews will not replace us".
Following the movie "Idiocracy" , it was not the wrong race having kids but the stupid unsuccessful people having kids. Demonstrated without any racial component involved, professional couples with advanced degrees preferring fewer children then uneducated couples having less job pressures.

And, of course, the entire premise of the movie was wrong and disgusting. Smart people have stupid kids and stupid people have smart kids. You and the movie are espousing the wholly false doctrine of eugenics, that “stupidity” is heritable and therefore stupid people must be discouraged from breeding. The problem always is not who does or ot does have kids, but dysfunctional economic, social and educational systems that leave kids from poorer families in worse economic, social, and educational shape, and with fewer resources to better themselves.

Only if by "demonstrated" you mean "asserted in a work of fiction".

I can't be bothered debunking this crap again, so please read the short Vice article by Rick Paulas posted in 2016 that details the problems it has: https://www.vice.com/en/article/idiocracy-is-elitist-porn/

By the way, following the movie "Superman", it was demonstrated that an alien from the Planet Krypton could fly, if he visited Earth.

Excellent article. I suggest RVonse read it before spouting off again.

In fact, I don’t even think it is helpful to talk about stupid or smart people. We should be talking about educating everyone, and freeing them of stupid conditioning imposed on them by their families and culture.

Kids are expensive. Maybe if Republicans would stop taking benefits away from working class people so they can give tax breaks to the rich the working class might have more kids.

People who have kids... they are called women. I guess is sounds worse if one says "women need to have more kids".

This isn't just Musk, this is a growing message from the alt-right. And they aren't particularly worried about Hispanic child birth rates.

People who impregnate women, leading to more kids, are called men. They need to get from behind their gaming consoles and other screens, quit hooking up and start to have actual relationships and plan for a future beyond achieving the next level of…. whatever.

Obviously sarcasm but not without a tiny tiny tiny grain of truth

I don't think these women are like your mom. These women are saying that all women should stay home and have lots of kids. I do know some stay at home moms who aren't Christians and who for one reason or another made that choice. Plus, in past decades, it wasn't that hard to manage a household on one income, but it's not as easy these days unless the bread winner makes a lot of money. My daughter in law is a stay at home mom, but they only have two kids. To be honest, I wish she would at least get a part time job as my son had told me it's tough being the sole supporter of the family.

Working was very important to me and to most of my friends. Sometimes I worked part time so I could do more cleaning, and cooking, plus nursing is an extremely stressful job and working part time made it more enjoyable. Plus, if most women don't work, who is going to do the female dominated professions like nursing, teaching, and caring for children? A lot of doctors are females these days as well. Times have changed. We can't go back to the days when most women stayed at home and raised lots of kids. Male nurses and elementary school teachers are rare. When I did volunteer work in an elementary school, not one teacher was male. If you read the entire article I linked, you would get a better picture of what this movement is about.
I was that mom who stayed home to raise kids, etc. which is not what I set out to ever do, except very short term. But life happened and we moved for hubby’s job at a time that was extremely detrimental to my own career aspirations, and no, my career aspirations never recovered. Sure, eventually I landed a well paying job that bored me to tears but hey, it paid well, and let us pay for the kids’ college costs and some needed renovations.

The truth is that our society lacks the necessary infrastructure to support dual income families. This would include affordable daycare, reasonable workloads that allow people to have lives outside of their work obligations, family leave, more paid time off, good pay and access to good, stable housing and transportation, excellent education and healthcare. With access to appropriate care and support for serious or chronic health conditions.

It seems to me that society should exist to support the population, not corporations.

Yep. Women and young girls who strive for a career centric life are supported and glorified, but those who prefer a family centric life (like my mom did) are at best ignored, if not openly mocked and ridiculed. Its a little odd...the Democrat party has recently been losing support from men who they have ignored and/or mocked, and here they are doing the same to a subculture of women who have decided that a more "traditional" way of life is best for them. When you find yourself in a hole, first stop digging!

Nobody intended to insult my mother particularly as they didn't know anything about her. I do think my mom did at times felt belittled by some of the feminist rhetoric regarding her life choices, especially when it came from her daughter (my sister) who chose a career path instead (as a pharmacist).

To the alt-right, and soon the easily manipulatable right wing, this is about how women aren't letting men get them pregnant. It is as if the incel movement hopped mainstream with the alt-right.

These people think men are the victim of women that either want fewer children, no children, a career, or aren't particularly into a relationship at all. Men are losing their masculinity due to females being allowed to have choices.

We are trending in a terrible direction.

To conservatives, the problem always simplifies to their tiny world.

So a discussion about the alt-right's ideal that women need to have more babies being questioned by others, simplifies to thebeave's mom instead of women in general.

Different strokes for different folks? Odd how different strokes matter when it is personal to a conservative.

I know most of you did not watch the movie. I only went because a friend dragged me but for real, all you men out there need to read this about 100 times and keep in mind, this is best case scenario:

The famous monologue from the movie: Barbie:

It is literally impossible to be a woman. You are so beautiful, and so smart, and it kills me that you don't think you're good enough. Like, we have to always be extraordinary, but somehow we're always doing it wrong.

You have to be thin, but not too thin. And you can never say you want to be thin. You have to say you want to be healthy, but also you have to be thin. You have to have money, but you can't ask for money because that's crass. You have to be a boss, but you can't be mean. You have to lead, but you can't squash other people's ideas. You're supposed to love being a mother, but don't talk about your kids all the damn time. You have to be a career woman but also always be looking out for other people. You have to answer for men's bad behavior, which is insane, but if you point that out, you're accused of complaining. You're supposed to stay pretty for men, but not so pretty that you tempt them too much or that you threaten other women because you're supposed to be a part of the sisterhood.

But always stand out and always be grateful. But never forget that the system is rigged. So find a way to acknowledge that but also always be grateful. You have to never get old, never be rude, never show off, never be selfish, never fall down, never fail, never show fear, never get out of line.

It's too hard! It's too contradictory and nobody gives you a medal or says thank you! And it turns out in fact that not only are you doing everything wrong, but also everything is your fault.

I'm just so tired of watching myself and every single other woman tie herself into knots so that people will like us. And if all of that is also true for a doll just representing women, then I don't even know.
Keep in mind that this is basically the best case scenario.

Women are constantly judged by impossible standards. I know that men also have enormous barriers and expectations as well.

But if we want people to have more babies, maybe it’s the men who need to change. Most of the families that I know where the parents stayed together and raised more than 2 kids had very involved fathers and many have extended family around to help.

But if we want people to have more babies, maybe it’s the men who need to change.
I think I missed the part where it was explained why we need more babies.

The al-right and manosphere mean we need more tradbros with their tradwives to have more white babies that will grow up MAGA.
