Climate Change(d)?

Fusion is a pipedream.
Tell it to Bill Gates and his pals who have ponied up $2b.
It will never be cheaper, safer, cleaner, or more practical than fission power
Never say never. I’m pretty sure I’ll never see it, but I don’t plan to live forever.
I DO hope to see the successful deployment of OKLO’s project though.

I'm just a California guy that has been fooled into thinking he sees through the bullshit
FIFY
If you had any understanding whatsoever you would acknowledge the graphs that represent actual observations.
By “acknowledge” I don’t mean posting mindless rolleyes or incanting “rapture like cult”, which is what the rapture like MAGAt cult does.

It took 9 years to go from a fission bomb to a fission power plant.

It's been nearly 73 years since the first fusion bomb, and the first power plant to use fusion is still decades rather than years into the future, even by the most optimistic estimates.

If a fusion reactor can be built, it will clearly be very difficult to operate. Most designs assume a magnetically contained plasma, but that containment is clearly extremely hard to sustain. It will also produce lots of neutron radiation, so its material structure will both become highly radioactive, and severely degraded, in sustained operations.

Maybe there will be some astonishing new idea that makes controlled fusion possible without these issues, but don't bet on it.

Liquid fuelled (ie molten salt) fission reactors are clearly better in every way.

Fission technology is being held back by military influences, who want reactors that can make bomb-grade fissionables; And by hippies, who want humanity to return to the paleolithic.

Fast spectrum molten salt reactors are shit for millitary purposes, can be made inherently fail-safe, and can be fuelled by what we currently regard as "high level waste". The world should be turning these things out by the thousands, or better still tens of thousands. There are plenty of good designs; If only a government somewhere would get tbe fuck out of the way and let some be built, they could rapidly out-compete any other electricity source.

There is no way to know who TSwizzle is, what his motivations are, and if he is feigning ignorance.

I'm just a California guy that sees through the bullshit. My motivation is that you climate catastrophe, rapture fanatics know that I see through the bullshit.

After Russia invaded Ukraine Europe wokerd to get off dp[endurance on Russian energy. ike natural gas. European dependence on Russian energy was in the news for some time as sanctions were made on Russia,

It was incredibly stupid to get into bed with Russia but when people are so driven by religion, they do stupid things.
This answers one question, you really are ignorant across the board, not just science. You posted about Germany and energy thinking it is somehow runs counter to climate change ignorant of the long standing European dependence on cheap Russian energy.

As to catastrophe it depends on what is meant by the word. Cystoscopic as in some kind of Armageddon no one is promoting that.

Catastrophic as to coastal com unites around the world under threat, areas becoming too hot for humans to live, threats to water supplies and agriculture, threats to hydro power, and storms yes catastrophic.

Te retire ecosystem is connected through insects. The rapid loss of species is a threat to the ecosysm. Warming ocean are killing coral reefs, the ocean nurseries at the bottom of the glbal food chain.

High school biology. Big fish eat small fish, bigger fish eat big fish, we eat bigger fish like salmon and tuna. Us humans are not isolated for the global ecosystem.

Ocean organisms are a major part of our oxygen supply. Ever hear of plankton, oxygen, and the carbon cycle?

Phytoplankton, a type of plankton, are estimated to produce at least 50% of the oxygen in Earth's atmosphere through photosynthesis. This makes them a major contributor to the oxygen we breathe. While other sources like land plants also contribute, phytoplankton's role is particularly significant, especially considering their abundance and distribution in the world's oceans.

Back when bee colonies were dying I listened to Sean Hannity on FOX rant on how wasteful it was to spend government money on the problem, utter ignorance.

Our life is conected to the global ecosystem. It is a fact.

Science and technology over the post WWII period has given us a false sense of security and independence from the natural world. For example thinking that a comfortable local climate means htere is no problem at all.

The La fires should have been a wake up call. But it is probably back to carefree sun and surf in La.

It will also produce lots of neutron radiation, so its material structure will both become highly radioactive, and severely degraded, in sustained operations.
That is the main thing that gives me pause. I just don't see how a fusion operation could be maintained. But given time... who knows. If Gates&Co don't succeed they will at least better define the barriers.
Fission technology is being held back by military influences, who want reactors that can make bomb-grade fissionables; And by hippies, who want humanity to return to the paleolithic.
Well, one of those factions - or maybe both - will their way eventually!
The world should be turning these things out by the thousands, or better still tens of thousands.
I agree; that's why I bought OKLO stock. They better fucking well succeed, too. I need my couple grand to turn into millions billions trillions by the time I turn 80.
Seriously, many many many compact fast reactors all over the place, is the vision. Unless there is some terrible defect in their design or cost anticipation, it should catch on pretty quick.

I have yet to see a honey bee in my greenhouse this year.
That really sucks. The Mountain Bluebirds and swallows (insect eaters) are gone FAPP, and used to be super common.
Some predict dire effects on the entire food chain, but AI can probably design some mechanical pollinators that will save us all.

Wildfires in California are nothing new. They are a natural and necessary phenomenon. Why you keep bringing up California wildfires as evidence of climate apocalypse is just daft and cannot be taken seriously.

There is no evidence you are capable of reasoning.

The evidence of the ecological and in turn human catastrophe has been and is well covered globaly.

Of course you can argue then there is global news platforms are in a conspiracy. One of th traditional conspiracy theory be a 'Jewish global cons racy'.

Is there some kind of Jewish conspiracy involved in the cellmate change cult?

Still have no idea what your motivation is and who you are.

An exercise on awareness for you.

Stand on the shore and look at the ocean. As you breathe in imagine oxygen coming from plankton into your lung and think 'if the ocean life dies I die'.

Repetition of the same simple declarations could indicate a paid troll or a member of a pro fossil fuel group. Or it could indicate a mental disorder. Perhaps OCD or cognitive dissonance.

It's not that these things never happened before, but that climate change predicts more frequent and more severe weather events, wildfires, storms....

Translation: Tswizzle is a heretic.

It’s covered with bs propaganda.

Gibberish.

More gibberish. Practically speaking in tongues now.

You're right. 18,000 homes destroyed by fire is a typical January in LA. Nothing at all out of the ordinary.

:parrot:awk cult cult cult awk awk awk awk cult cult cult Poly wants attenuation Poly wants attention

TSwizzle is a parrot with a limited vocabulary.

Poor TSwizzle, thinks he 'is a heretic in a great battle. Now we are seeing him emerge?

Put up or shut up TSwizzle.

Me: That glaciers and polar ice are melting causing rise in sea levels is an observed fact,. If not the results of human pollution and global warming, what is the natural phenomena at play?

TSwizzle: Cult like behavior.

Me: Warming oceans is affecting ocean life at bottom of the food chain affecting fish we eat like salmon and cod.

TSwizzle: Cult lie behavior.

Me: TSwizzle is exhibiting cult like behavior.

TSwizzle: Silence.

Me: A 1 degree rise in temperature in the Gulf Of Mexico is an immense increase in thermal energy driving bigger storms with more rain, calculated by q = m*c *dT

TSwizzle: Silence.

Maybe he is living in his grandparents' garage.

TSwizzle probably feels jazzed like Christians debating atheists on the forum. A cult of one TSwizzle, a cult of many Christians.

Hey! Bill Gates!! Tell your pals that fusion is a pipedream!!!
Nitpick: I hope I won't be accused of pedantry if I remind that a large fusion reactor is ALREADY in place, providing power "too cheap to meter!" It provides directly or indirectly much of the power which IS metered, as well as free heating for the several continents. Indeed, an oft-heard complaint is that it is now providing TOO MUCH power.

Oh no!! TSwizzle used the roll eyes emoji, I am done for. Anything but the roll eyes! I give up. Climate change is not happening. Please no more emojis I surrender.

🤣

TSwizzle this is a science forum and so far you have not posted any quantifiable refutation of the science behind climate chge.

Your posts are like masturbation, makes you feel good but the only person you fool is yourself.

You should give up but you won't. You will continue to spam the thread with nonsense.

Climate change is not happening. Please no more emojis I surrender.

This is the sort of nonsense I am referring to. When have I ever said climate change is not happening?

Sorry to dash your hopes, but that is pedantry. We are discussing controlled fusion, and there is no sense in which the power source you reference is under any human control at all. Certainly Bill Gates and his pals don't and can't control it.

Sticking around expecting anything else from Swiz, puts you right there in the wallow with him.
Presenting data and expecting him to respond, is a fool's errand. Whether troll, simple contrarian, agent of NK or something else - doesn't much matter. Indulging a CWOT is on us, not him.

Using unrealistic models, the propaganda predicts climate catastrophe. And none of the predictions have materialized. The climate has been remarkably stable.

The signs at Glacier National Park warning that its signature glaciers would be gone by 2020 are being changed. The signs in the Montana park were added more than a decade ago to reflect climate change forecasts at the time by the US Geological Survey, park spokeswoman Gina Kurzmen told CNN. In 2017, the park was told by the agency that the complete melting off of the glaciers was no longer expected to take place so quickly due to changes in the forecast model, Kurzmen said.
