Are we now in full blown fascist totalitarianism?

Miami Republicans illeagly Canceled An Election

Trump threatens to take over NYC if Mamdani is elected mayor

What Trump said:

"If a communist gets elected to run New York, it can never be the same, but we have tremendous power at the White House to run places we have to. … New York City will run properly. We’re going to bring New York back,” Trump said."

“You have a lot of crooked things going on in New York. We’re going to straighten out New York, and maybe we’ll have to straighten it out from Washington. ... We’re going to do something for New York. I can’t tell you what yet, but we’re going to make New York great again.”

This just sound like more babbling idiocy from the greatest babbling idiot ever to live in the White House. He says some shit his idiot base will cheer for and then he goes golfing.

Tomorrow he'll say more idiotic things and the idiot cycle will continue with this New York thing being completely forgotten about by this time next week.

I take it you don't watch the news much? Trump is more than happy to send federal troops in to undermine civic democracy.

THE DEPARTMENT OF Homeland Security is urging local police to consider a wide range of protest activity as violent tactics, including mundane acts like riding a bike or livestreaming a police encounter, WIRED has learned.

Years from now, the stacking of the Supreme Court (and its nakedly transparent slide into open, shameless corruption) is going to be seen as having accelerated the end of American democracy at least as pivotally as the double election of Donald Trump.

Mitch McConnell has thus earned a place in future history books.

Look at the bright side.

There won't be nearly as much confusion about how to pronounce "Roberts" as there is about how to pronounce "Taney"...

McConnell’s influence will certainly be seen as having been considerable. Trump may be remembered as just a half-witted tool of the moneyed elite rather than as an active participant in the planning and execution of the destruction of American democracy.

Trump Admin's destruction of the Democracy might end up being overstated. What doesn't look to be overstated is the dismantlement of a lot of the Executive Branch. Trump is decentralizing and spreading out the workforce nationally, selling buildings, and making easier and less noticeable to fire others later, and making it near impossible to return to previous hired levels in DC.

Add in SCOTUS is responsible for defanging Executive Branch oversight and that isn't coming back for a generation or two, at most, and we are seeing a weaker and less responsive Federal Government. Already experienced one disaster showing that.

we are seeing a weaker and less responsive Federal Government

“We” may be seeing that, but the street MAGAts only need to hear Trump tell them they have the strongest, most nimble and responsive government in the history of government, and they’ll agree.
We’re not here because of Trump, or billionaires or foreign meddling. We’re here because we’re collectively Stoopid.
Mid/dis information is getting “better” (at fulfilling its purpose) all (Al) the time, and the chance that general awareness is going to increase any time soon, seems remote to me. Maybe if Cheato drops dead later today there would be a chance, but by 2029 this Country will be a lifeless husk of what it set out to be post WWII.

I’m not biting on the supposed “release the Epstein files” MAGAtry. It’s a manufactured distraction, not the major fracture in the cult as left wing media represents. The destruction goes on, at an ever accelerating pace. The MAGAts don’t care.

He's been in power for less than six months. Ninety percent of his term is yet to come.

There's going to be plenty of later.

In what way are these troops undermining democracy?

This is one of the MANY ways:

The Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 (not part of the Constitution, but a federal law) generally prohibits the use of the U.S. Army and Air Force for civilian law enforcement, except where expressly authorized by the Constitution or an Act of Congress.
In what way do you see this president or his administration SUPPORTING American democracy?? Can you think of anything he could do to destroy it that he is not already doing?

True, however, my point was, we could have elections, the Dems could take back both Houses in '26 and the White House in '28, and there will be substantial damage remaining that'll be very hard to fix.

As in “irreparable” IMO. Even if Dems got supermajorities in both Houses plus the presidency, the damage already done would take decades to repair. If Alito, Thomas and another one or two corrupt justices were to croak in ‘28, that might accelerate the healing.
