Nazism was covered in a political science class.

That we have a madman in the WH goes without saying.

Like Trump Hitler was expert at pushing deep cultural buttons. The Nazi propaganda film Triumph Of The Will was kept classified until the 70s, I saw it when it made the rounds of college campuses.

The movie is long but worth watching. It would have played in theaters.

Nazi propaganda made use of Christian religious symbols.

Blood and soil (German: Blut und Boden, pronounced [ˈbluːt ʊnt ˈboːdn̩] ⓘ) is a nationalist slogan expressing Nazi Germany's ideal of a racially defined national body ("Blood") united with a settlement area ("Soil"). By it, rural and farm life forms are idealized as a counterweight to urban ones. It is tied to the contemporaneous German concept of Lebensraum, the belief that the German people were to expand into Eastern Europe, conquering and displacing the native Slavic and Baltic population via Generalplan Ost.[citation needed]

"Blood and soil" was a key slogan of Nazi ideology. The nationalist ideology of the Artaman League and the writings of Richard Walther Darré guided agricultural policies which were later adopted by Adolf Hitler, Heinrich Himmler and Baldur von Schirach.

Christian and business leaders jumped on the Nazi opklatfo0rm for financial and poluctcal power. Not unlike MAGA Hi9ter;s theme as a return to traditional German values.

Like Trump Hitler thought he knew netter than nay one else. If he had let his mioltray staff prosecute the war it might be a different world today.

So far Trump can not corrupt the judicial system in any major way.

A big test will be if he orders arbitrary use of military force as he said he might do with Panama and Greenland.

I have no idea what is in the minds of republicans.

Is Trump smart enough to engineer economic collapse to create chaos opening the door for a dictator?

I think its high time that people drop all the Nazi talk regarding American politics. People have really lost their minds about this. The shark has been jumped:

No, Sydney Sweeney’s ‘great jeans’ aren’t a Nazi dog whistle

If you’ve logged on to Twitter, TikTok or any other social media platform, you’ve seen chatter swirling around American Eagle’s jeans advertisement with the “Euphoria” star. And a lot of it is fueling the outrage machine.

The American Eagle ad showcases the actress wearing a denim jacket and jeans with the tagline “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans.” What should’ve been an ad campaign for jeans has American Eagle being accused of giving off “Nazi” vibes.

The ad is a pun — a play on words (jeans/genes) to sell jeans. Yet according to internet critics, it has been labeled an endorsement of eugenics — the discredited bigoted theory that the human population can be perfected by selective breeding. One X user posted “the American Eagles ad wasn’t just a commercial. It was a love letter to white nationalism and eugenic fantasies, and Sydney Sweeney knew it.”

Maybe they should lean into it;
“Great Jeans, made with You-Jenicks!

Looking at some right-wing videos on youtube, and reading the comments, MAGA types definitely think the ad is about genes, and further that Sydney Sweeney is "one of them" (that is, a right-wing racist), even though there is no evidence for such.

I saw another one from that same company using an oriental woman wearing yellow jeans. Same concept.

If you think that is a serious ad by American Eagle, then I have a bridge to sell you...

Sorry. It was something I saw out of the corner of my eye and just assumed.

But frankly, I have not seen one lefty criticise the original commercial. I've only seen the right criticise the left for criticising the commercial. As far as i'm concerned, this is just another case of manufactured outrage by the right.

There are a lot of things, but people keep bringing up a million distractions so people won't focus on the real issues.

Do you have some examples of left wingers making this complaint? The opinion of a conservative political strategist is hardly compelling given the rights proclivities towards manufacturing outrage.

There's some examples in this link:

Explained: Why is Sydney Sweeney’s American Eagle fashion ad being called ‘tone-deaf’ and ‘Nazi’?

Now they're coming after her German Shepard dog, calling it a "Nazi Dog"! Leave the pooch out of this...that's a bridge too far".

Thank you. I agree then.

But there are always a few nutcases on social media. I certainly didn't recognize any of those names.

However, what doesn't doesn't usually happen is it doesn't get used by right wing national media on television and in print to smear liberals as nuts.

But hey, any port in a storm, right?

Yeah. The original jeans commercial was tone-deaf. Execs are often tone-deaf. Sometimes people just get so wrapped up in a marketing campaign that something like that happens.

It's easy to tell the difference between that and people doing Nazi solutes on stage, repeatedly, and again after it's observed what they did.

It's easy to tell the difference between tone-deaf execs, or even a message snuck through by some Nazi (which does happen), and a message following the timbre and social interests that drove things like the Nazi book-burnings, directly from the mouth, using coded language. Coded language would be anything such as the claim that being trans is a "meme" to tuck away accusations of grooming and an otherwise obvious agenda of suppression of public life for trans people.

Fascism is a cycle that comes for older democracies that have forgotten the horrors of war.

It is here again.

But the stupid jeans ad isn't it.

We thoroughly disown the idiots going on barking about a stupid ad to sell denim clothing.

Are you happy? I have never seen anyone barking about that, and I see a lot of leftist content all the time.

Not once.

I can only imagine the right has fake leftists or psychotic nobody leftists who have psychotic beliefs that they can routinely hold up and say they are psychotic, at this point.

Of course, you can find an idiot saying anything.

It's more important the proportion of idiots saying shit, not the shit the idiots say.

Case study does not prove a trend, it only proves that a case can exist.

Back in the Great War, those Englishmen unfortunate enough to own a German Shepherd (a very popular breed in England at the time) found themselves in a bit of a bind. All things German were considered very bad indeed - even His Majesty dropped the "Gotha" from his surname when Gotha G.IV bombers attacked English targets, including London, in 1917; To this day the former Saxe-Coburg and Gotha family use the surname Windsor instead.

Fortunately, a part of the German Empire in Europe was, until the Franco-Prussian War some 45 years earlier, a part of France, and so the annexed territory of Alsace was able to be used with patriotic fervour as a new name for the breed. To this day, many people in England call the breed 'Alsatians'.

And all this before anyone had even invented Naziism.

People are strange, and nationalists are very strange people, particularly when they feel threatened. Up until 1914, by far the most common kind of foreign restaurant in England was the German restaurant. Even today, German food remains hard to find in any English town or city.

The whole thing is reminicent of 'Freedom Fries' - a particularly weird example, because the french fry is a Belgian invention, and the name comes not from the nationality, but from the style of slicing vegetables into long thin strips. The Belgians frenched and fried potatoes, to make the famous foodstuff.

Owning a German Shepherd is not an indication of Naziism. Being a Nazi is.

Just a quick question... are you suggesting that Poe isn't broken and that it obvious that ad is fake? Yes, a play through implies rather obviously it is a hoax, but in general, you need to check everything. It is becoming exhausting.

Double sourcing and checking is pretty much prerequisite for just about everything these days. You can't trust anything. Like the Jeans ad... is that real? Why do I need to look it up? And then, are people (liberals) really that upset over it? Fuck, I need to look that up too. Are conservatives really applauding it's loosely eugenic message? *starts sobbing*

There is another ad but Asian... *rolls eyes* I'm moving and going to live in a cave, I can't waste the rest of my life source checking several things regarding a fucking jeans ad.

It certainly isn't a pro-eugenics message. But... it is using some level of eugenic ideology as a primer.

Yes, she has "good genes", but only in the sense she is pretty and the whole look of "blue eyes" thing was done by some awful people. Additionally the idea that there are good genes (as opposed to bad genes) isn't something we should be using to sell jeans. Yes, it'd be worse if we were actually selling genes, but this takes some atrocious policies and crimes in the 20th century and trying to play it off as a whimsical pun. And this goes well beyond the Holocaust as we were sterilizing people to stop them from breeding in the US and presumably Europe.

So, no, not pro-eugenics, but this is a "too fucking soon" issue. Not losing sleep over it, but they can sell jeans without mentioning genetics.

No bad advertising, however. Someone likely stood up and asked 'Is this a really good idea, we are wandering into questionable taste.' And the response was likely 'If the question must be asked, then we'll get our money's worth.' Then a response of 'But aren't we minimizing the deaths and sterilizations of millions in the 20th century?' And the final reply 'Look, no one is going to start a massive eugenics program because of a pun.'

And they would be right. Still doesn't make this any less distasteful.

It was immediately highly questionable just reading Zip's statement and it took only seconds after that to determine the yellow jeans ad was in fact, a parody, and not a real AE ad. The video says "Tiffany Fong has great genes" at the the end and the youtube channel is called "Tiffany Fong" (with 49k subscribers). And I never made any claim or suggestion that "Poe isn't broken". That's something from your overactive imagination.

Enjoy your cave. We are in a new era of realistic fake media, like it or not. Its becoming very difficult to discern fact from fiction, and its only going to get worse. It certainly bugs me too.

Let's face it...the "Sydney Sweeney has great genes" statement in the ad is really just a polite way of saying "Sydney Sweeney has great tits.jpg
