In NYC having government run grocery stores with possible setting prices and wages replacing private sector stores for a lack of a better word is communism. Threaten profit of food chains and business will leave.
I think you misunderstand what is happening here. This isn't about making groceries cheaper, it more about access to groceries at all. These people don't have cars, so they have to walk or take the train... and carry everything whatever the distance is. Whatever their age is.
Much like Trump and his tariffs Mandani has no idea what he is doing.
That is certainly true, but Mamdani can't wish things into existence like Trump apparently is allowed to.
From what I have seen while he is very careful of what he says and uses the term democratic socialist there are hints of Marxism.
He can rants like an extremist. Populism, stir up the masses. He ranted about NYC being built by immigrants, well no shit Sherlock. He says he wants to make NYC ‘again’ about immigrants. Playing to the masses. Don’t know when NYC was ever not about immigrants.
It is probably an anti white statement. Important immigrants include Irish, Jews, Russians, Chinese, Germans, Italians, and Greeks.
You've got some of it right regarding populist statements, some of it wrong, this isn't anti-white. This is about a city where portions are doing a lot better than other portions. White people who live in NYC can also be dealing with some of these issues.
The fear of Marxism is ridiculous. NYC is the global hub of capitalism. That isn't going anywhere. And if Mamdani wants the same (ie not going anywhere instead of being shown the door), he needs to combine private buyback and public interests together. Because otherwise, he isn't getting any change. He is a Democrat Socialist, but he isn't a king. He is on Albany's leash. And if for whatever reason, he goes insane and tries to force things, the establishment will see to his defeat in the next election.
