California Doing California Things

Presumably quite similar to the platform of his already existing project, the Campaign for Democracy. Defeating authoritarianism by rebuilding a strong central State personally led by him.

lol, such irony.

Yes! I agree with you. Very ironic. Republicans today are very authoritarian and nanny state. Whatever happened to the libertarian state that built the republican base? Trump is taking ownership in companies, telling them how to run their HR department, dictating their supply chain, and etc.

Til Newsom puts his foot in it saying something dumb on camera, the media obsesses over it for months, and we get Trump 3 and the end of democracy despite Vance never putting his own feet anywhere but his mouth.
I'm having trouble figuring out what Newsom's campaign platform will be. Pretty much everything in CA has gotten worse under his watch. All he seems to have is "Republicans bad...So, vote for me". He doesn't even have "good character" to fall back on.

Well, as a moderate, I think that he's by far the best choice. Trump has really changed politics in the US. You have to be a fighter to win now, IMO. You have to aggressive and take no shit.

I know that Beave lives in California. But I'm always surprised that people don't like California. Yea its' homes are priced out of sight, but that is because people want to live there! They have the largest economy in the US. Way more than Texas. The fifth largest in the world. They have grown faster than any other state. They are by far the leading hi-tech market in the world. People leave California after their homes and 401ks have quadrupled. Then they buy a home in smaller states and live like a king.

Some people just can't stand living in the future.

Pretty much everything in America has gotten worse under Trump2.0, so “Republicans bad, vote for me!” Is probably sufficient.
But Newsom has SO much more to offer: demeaning mockery, passable mastery of American English, willingness to indulge in insult wars, funny posters, and many other ways to get under Trump’s skin … he’d probably be a shoo-in if there was an election today.

Some people just can't stand living in the future.

Highest unemployment rate
Because we actually keep good records on employment numbers.
, highest taxes
Which most of us happily pay, because our government actually provides services in return. I'd rather fork money over to the state than to the federal government any day, because the state taxes come back to me in a recognizeable form, they're not just lining the pockets of Trumps little corporate toadies with no accountability.
, highest homeless rate,
By dint of having the highest population, and once again, also because most California cities proactively try to keep a record of how many unhomed citizens they serve.

highest gas prices
That's Hawai'i, we're in second place. And its only a problem if you live in the past.

highest energy costs
Hawai'i again, but yes, energy is expensive in the future. There's a reason the AI boom isn't happening in fucking Mississippi.

, lowest test scores in schools.
Not even sort of true. We're consistently a bit below the national average, and it should definitely be a concern for California legislators, but certainly not in the bottom spot.

And if I pointed out which specific schools are dragging the average down, and what the political leanings of those low performing counties look like, you'd start getting mad, because its objective proof of the stupidity of Republican dominated school boards.

Nah, he just reverts to his usual rolleyes.
Kinda like when you post facts about climate science. Rolleyes. That’s the extent of trumpsucking intellectual capacity.

In... one of the nicest states in the Union? By far? That people go on vacations just to see?
Yes, on the bright side, California has some of the nicest mountains and beaches around. Not to mention great weather and recreation opportunties. Its how the state is managed that's the problem.

Then the democrats will lose again.

No. You need the democrats to come up with policies that will appeal to the voters. Newsom offers nothing in this department.

And none of it is down to Newsom and the democrats. The “fifth/fourth largest economy in the world!!11!!” bs that Newsom trots out is largely due to a handful of very successful (mostly tech) companies that are still in California.

People leave California after their homes and 401ks have quadrupled. Then they buy a home in smaller states and live like a king.
And people also leave because living here is not viable for them because it is so outrageously expensive.

All of which would be fixed if California were run like one of the dumpster fire states, and some Republican AM disc jockey suceeded in killing ag and chasing the country's last viable industries overseas, suppose?

Likes it living in the past

Driving on the 101 is getting pretty darned close.
Yep. Where on 101 are you regularly driving? I drive it daily in the Santa Clara up to Palo Alto area, and its frequently backed up. Other local highways are bad too. I got sideswiped going 65 mph just before Thanksgiving on 85 in Mountain View (it was the other guy's fault). The other driver spoke only Spanish, was driving on a suspended license (for a previous DUI), and could not produce vehicle registration or proof of insurance at the scene (though it was later found to be insured under someone else's name). The other truck's insurance company is trying to stiff me on compensation. I still have some whiplash and my truck was declared a total loss. So now I have to buy a new truck to replace my old beloved Tacoma that I loved like a pet. It will cost me many thousands out of my own pocket. So, yeah..its a bit like Mad Max out on the roads, already. It won't be long until 90% of CA drivers are total rogues like that guy was...with a machine guy turret on top!!

I used to drive that same stretch quite regularly but I started a new job earlier this year and now avoid the 101 most of the time, certainly during heavy traffic times. If I'm going up the peninsula I prefer the 280 even if it ends up being a longer trip.

Bullshit. CA is AMONG the highest in SOME of those categories.
If it’s not worth it to you Swizzer, the solution is obvious:
MOVE.
You obviously don’t appreciate it, so why not move to say, Mississippi?

I am seriously sorry for you about that, Beave. I stopped Mrs E from selling the Tacoma I gave her back in 2000. It’s a 1999 and has only 115k miles, has lived in a garage and is, in its own way, the best vehicle I’ve ever had (including Mercs BMWs, Dodge Ram truck etc).
I know I should sell it (she can’t drive it any more) but it really is like a pet. I feel your pain. 😥
