Yet another war, this time with Iran

Another thought occurs to me. It seems Trump has decided that it is appropriate international relations to remove from power the leader of another country. He has now done so twice.

He is setting up a precedent he may not like.
And yet again we find this logic "do not unto others as you would not have them do to you".

I wonder if Numbnuts knows he has to keep the straits open or the price at the pump is going to make his most ardent supporters start to pay attention.
Iran is not America first.
Price spike at the pump damn sure ain’t.
Just seen on the news the straits are basically closed already.
It would be a brave (or rather, foolhardy) tanker captain that would try to pass the straits while there is a war on.

And even if one were stupid enough to try, his insurance company and/or the owner of the vessel would likely veto his decision.
I think this is going to hurt Europe a lot more than the US, and the Panama Canal will become a political McGuffin again.

I read this morning that the leader of Australia praised Trump for his attack on Iran. Is you country heading in the same direction as the US?
Nah, as usual our government just backs the USA because the US Embassy asks them to.

Albo's press release was written in Washington DC, and is almost word for word identical with the one from a couple of other countries.

Better not suggest that we take in Iranian immigrants fleeing instabilities we caused there, though.
We certainly should not be taking in any supporters of the Islamic Revolution.

We have more than enough of those here as is. One of them (Senegalese, not even Iranian) shot up a bar in Austin.

Maybe they will come around to our cultural way of thinking if we just bomb them enough.

“The United States did not start this conflict,” Hegseth said Saturday evening in an X post, “but we will finish it.”

How's that again?

Pentagon offers no evidence to support claim it attacked Iran in defense

The Trump administration’s effort to construct a case for war after shots started flying has few historical parallels.

The Trump administration is making the case that it ordered expansive, deadly strikes to stop an imminent threat from Tehran, but is providing no evidence Iran had such plans.

The White House, amid the largest military buildup in the region in decades, has yet to explain to the public or to Congress what Iranian threat prompted the massive attacks that have upended the region and could draw the U.S. into another Middle East war.

...

“Whatever imminent threat they’re posing was likely in reaction to our unprecedented military buildup in the region,” said Sen. Andy Kim (D-N.J.). “This is an example of the president deciding what he wanted to do, and then making his administration go and find whatever argument they could make to justify it.”

...

Trump, in an eight-minute video on Truth Social after the first wave of attacks, said Iran had continued to develop long-range missiles that could threaten Europe and U.S. troops — although American intelligence agencies have assessed Tehran won’t acquire those weapons for years.

And you said nothing about JFK. I blame JFK for deepening American involvement in Vietnam, and LBJ, for turning it into a full-fledged war. I blame Eisenhower before them for instigating the whole mess in the first place. I blame G W Bush for Iraq. I blame the U.S. meddling illegally in nations all over the world.
I don't see you blaming US in meddling in Ukraine/Russia. Or in Romania recently.

The disaster in Ukraine is entirely the fault of the Nazi in the Kremlin.

The point stands: I and others blame the U.S. for a lot of bad things going back decades. Do you blame the Soviet Union/Russia for ANYTHING? Your wretched crap hole of a nation is paradise, is that it?
repeating BS does not make it true.

This is the most minor of issues right now, but who the fuck at the Pentagon thinks up these operation names? I mean, the NSW Police force randomly generate names for their operations as basic security.

10 bucks says the invasion of Cuba next month will be called "Operation big tits extreme rofl!!!!!oneoneone"

They should have properly called it "Tremendous Fury"

So how’s this war working out so far? All we her is that we’ve thrown b inch of missiles at Iran and they’ve thrown a few back. We’ve killed Khamenei and some other leaders. But how much damage to their nuclear capabilities have we actually inflicted? The BBC is reporting that we really can’t do much damage to their hardened sites where the real work is being done. Our bunker busters can’t go that deep.

I mean what’s the point of this? Regime change? Doesn’t seem to be working. The people aren’t rising up. Maybe they willl after we stop, but I’m skeptical that this will have the desired effect.

I still don’t understand what our casus belli is. I mean they haven’t even given a single one out, have they? We were negotiating with them one day and then we just walked out and attacked.
