2028 Presidential Election

The next year will determine if Newsom remains the top Democratic contender. The economic news I'm seeing out of California is concerning.

Well, California remains one of the best economies in the US, one of the best in the world. The fourth highest economy in the world. Are there specific policy decisions that Newsome has made that negatively affected the economy?

They are having issues with fuel at this time that have major implications, both immediate and long term.

Well, crap. I was overexaggerating. California only has the fourth best economy in the country:

Unfortunately, Vance must be ruled out. Ohio is 34th. Not good. I was surprised to see Utah leading pack. Similar to California, they also have a lot of high tech and high paying jobs.

But Ohio has cut taxes several times in the last 25 years and now they are trying to defund schools. How can we be so low?

Since they are doing great now that means they always and forever will be doing great. Nothing left to discuss. Trends that indicate problems in the future are not worth noticing.

Never mind that they are losing refineries due to shutdowns. Pipelines too. Due to their specialized fuel requirements they are importing more and more from overseas refineries that make their special blends. Never mind that on January 1st thousands of stations had to close due to 2014 SB 445, including just about all mom-and-pop stations that couldn't afford the upgrades, leaving some communities without service. Those are inconsequential, those are trends, and trends mean nothing. Once the 4th best economy in the country, always the 4th best economy in the country.

Oh, I see. You want to judge a possible candidate for President based on what the economy might look like in the future?

I'm saying if the trends turn into something real, which we both agree will never happen, that will impact Newsom's presidential chances.

California has economic issues, much like the rest of the US does... and the globe does. Economics are fluid and always changing. These issues are certainly being made worse by the castrated GOP's take on economics which at the moment appears to be 'whateva Trump wants to do' which is a stark difference from Trump's first term when the GOP did whatever it wanted to. And in general, the front runner years in advance has a hard time becoming the candidate anyway.

Also, we technically we need the 2026 mid-term election to actually happen, have the winners actually seated in Congress first before we can get all whimsical about a 2028 General Election happening.

but I'm not sure he'd be such a good choice, although one of my dogs would be a better choice compared to the mentally disturbed person we have in office now
Of course Newsom is a stinker of a choice.

The fucker is as limp as Schumer in his own way.
WTF are you talking about? Schumer was the first Senate Majority leader to get two reconciliation bills passed in the Senate. Without Schumer, Biden would have signed virtually nothing.
I think you missed the part where Schumer rolled over on the shutdown and let the GOP win literally everything they asked for in exchange for a fucking pinky promise.
I think it came down to the Republicans being happy with a shutdown. Make it permanent. The Felon does what he wants, doesn't pay attention to Congress.

So, fuck literally everyone who has given any single inch to this administration, or to anyone who would give such an inch.

Without the immediate formation of a serious, well-organized resistance to this, the US will become a Nazi nation. Maybe it's too fucking late.
We are fucked.
We have two optionns,
(a) Fight back, and play into his hands, risk the inserection act.
(b) Continue peaceful risistance, appear weak, and he invades more citys. (and more countrys)
We have already lost. It's just most people don't want to realize it.

Support your local politician. Vote in 26. Vote in 28.
‘26, if a fair vote occurs, is last call for democracy. And if that election fails to attain a Dem majority AT LEAST in the House, it’s game over.
I know that sounds alarmist, but when it comes to Donald Trump and his cabal, I have rarely been wrong.
All the things that Harry indicates must be done, with each individual acting on their strength and in concert where needed.
I am still VERY doubtful that the coming election will happen without flagrant, probably violent cheating, and that even with a massive win by democrats, that they will be seated in January.
Alarmist? Nah, trying to close the barn doors while the horses are in the next county and the barn has been reduced to sticks.

"Do you approve of the job President Trump is doing?"

Latest poll numbers from natesilver.net. Ten polls, 2 weeks old or less. (*) denotes polls only about 1 week old.
Because polling methods vary among researchers, Silver has a model to adjust the raw poll results. His adjusted numbers are shown in parentheses.

Likely Voters Avg -6% (-11%)
*Rasmussen Reports 1,500 LV −9% (-14%)
John Zogby Strategies 1,000 LV −11% (-12%)
InsiderAdvantage 1,000 LV +1% (-7%)

Registered Voters Avg -13% (-15%)
Quinnipiac University 1,191 RV −19% (-16%)
RMG Research 3,000 RV −7% (-14%)
*GBAO 1,000 RV −14% (-14%)

Adults Avg -15% (-15%)
*YouGov 1,730 A −19% (-16%)
*Morning Consult 45,000 A -14% (-17%)
TIPP Insights 1,384 A −11% (-13%)
Marist College 1,462 A −17% (-15%)

Likely voters show as only 6% (46% - 52%) Net disapprove, but this becomes 11% Disapprove with Silver's adjustments. Adults are 15% Disapprove but unfortunately less likely to vote than "Likely voters."

Interesting presidential campaign strategy from California governor Gavin Newsom

Newsom attended an event in Atlanta, Georgia on Sunday to promote his memoir, Young Man in a Hurry, as speculation grows that he may run for president in 2028. The California governor was asked about his lifelong struggle with dyslexia to which he responded: 'I'm not trying to impress you. I'm just trying to impress upon you. I'm like you. I'm no better than you.' 'You know, I'm a 960 SAT guy...you've never seen me read a speech because I cannot read - a speech.'

Daily Mail

Newsom really is dumb. He really should run for president.

Pretty much. This is a 79-year-old toddler who has a first class military and can do whatever he wants. There is no part of the government right now that can or will rein him in. His SCOTUS majority has gone way past unitary executive theory. If there is to be any respite from this hideous man and his regime, barring a stoke or a coronary, it is at least 10 months away, and that's if he can't control and derange the midterms. There's no fantasy about that scenario -- he's openly talking about banning mail-in voting, overseeing the election sites he claims can't be trusted, adding extra i.d. requirements (even birth certificates have been talked about), having government agents at polling places, and he's still going on about deserving a third term. Completely berserk. The bizarro version of everything you were taught about American democracy in high school. Trump has done more damage to the country than any war we've gone through. His outrageous lies have perverted the government from top to bottom. I'm unlikely to live long enough to see a thorough course correction, but at least I want to outlive this rage-filled idiot. (I'm eight years younger than him, and I exercise.)

Remember, yet again, as Trump slides into dementia his image becomes the mouth piece of other people.

Van Hollen’s plan would eliminate federal income taxes for half of U.S. workers
Van Hollen’s millionaire surtax would levy new rates above existing taxes on the rich. It would charge an additional 5 percent on income above $1 million, 10 percent above $2 million and 12 percent above $5 million. The Yale Budget Lab has estimated the surtax would affect about 615,000 filers.
Sanders and Khanna Introduce Legislation to Tax Billionaire Wealth and Invest in Working Families
Mitten's Make Billionaires Pay Their Fair Share Act, legislation that would establish a 5% annual wealth tax on the 938 billionaires in America — who are now collectively worth $8.2 trillion.
Trump's No tax on tips and overtime is mentioned in the first article about how popular it is. This is what we are reduced to, legislation that minimally helps those on the lowest rungs, servers and hourly wage folks, get thrown table scraps, and they are table scraps and it's a hit. Seriously, what are we talking here as far saving per person affected? Don't bother, I'll tell you how much, $27 a week. $27 fucking dollars a week. Well, fuck me. Let's celebrate and pay this month's gas bill.

Meanwhile in Real America:
You can go to Costco and get a 21 pound slab of subprime beef for $13 a pound.

Oh fucking great. The mouthpiece of any random “other person” is bound to sound more coherent than Trump actually is.

:pancakebunny:
This sad thing is I could still see the Dems lose if Owens becomes the candidate.
