Yet another war, this time with Iran

Meanwhile, Trump keeps telling Iran it is over, no more talking. Apparently oblivious that Iran may be able to strike oil infrastructure in the Gulf States. And why not? I'm not suggesting I support such an action by Iran, but rather, they could likely consider it as Trump has made it clear that the end of the road might be here, so the best way to stop from getting to the end of the road is fucking up the global oil / gas market.

If I didn't know better, Trump is looking to escalate this. Tactical nukes might be on the menu for him.
I don't think any nukes are on the table because they're supposed to be used in conjunction with ground forces in order to take territory. It could also set off a gruesome chain of events leading to a real nuclear war. At best it would set a precedent that battlefield nukes are a now acceptable tactic.

OTOH, the never ending inflammatory and idiotic nature of Trumpco never ceases to surprise. It's particularly troublesome in light of so many Christians both in and out of positions of power desperately wanting to live to see the End Times.

Fuck. Who fucking knows?

"A combat-unit commander told non-commissioned officers at a briefing Monday that the Iran war is part of God’s plan and that Pres. Donald Trump was “anointed by Jesus to light the signal fire in Iran to cause Armageddon and mark his return to Earth,” according to a complaint by a non-commissioned officer.

From Saturday morning through Monday night, more than 110 similar complaints about commanders in every branch of the military had been logged by the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF).

...

These calls have one damn thing in freaking common; our MRFF clients [service members who seek MRFF aid] report the unrestricted euphoria of their commanders and command chains as to how this new “biblically-sanctioned” war is clearly the undeniable sign of the expeditious approach of the fundamentalist Christian “End Times" as vividly described in the New Testament Book of Revelation.

Many of their commanders are especially delighted with how graphic this battle will be zeroing in on how bloody all of this must become in order to fulfill and be in 100% accordance with fundamentalist Christian end of the world eschatology.

😳😳😳
And in my 23+ years, I missed it all. Every last goddamn bit of it. I mean not so much as a fucking whisper of any Christian horseshit tickled my ear. All I ever had to endure was an occasional invocation at change of command ceremonies and other big shindigs. You want to bow your head, bow your head. I never did, nor did a handful of others. No one ever approached me about it.
Proselytizing or otherwise, any military member in a position of authority does or says anything inappropriate, they leave themselves open to disrespect by their subordinates. And to say this happens in briefings, where there might be dozens of witnesses. Doog Dog man! Anyone could get up and walk out and the supervisor could do fuck all about it. What's he going to do, put people on report for not listening to his proselytizing? That'll play well in front of the commanding officer.
Consider Jonathan Larsen's work history. Let's see, there was Rachel Maddow, TYT, Keith Olbermann, just to name a few. A pillar of objectivity, for sure.

Farkwit has announced that the people in Iran who the US had expected would become the new leadership were also killed in the bombings.

So we could “go through this and in five years you realize you put somebody in who’s no better.” No shit, Sherlock.

How do you end a war against a leaderless opponent?

With whom do you agree ceasefire terms, and how does anyone on either side ensure that individual units get ceasefire orders, and comply with them?

It already seems that the frontline missile and drone units have orders to keep on firing against a fairly wide range of targets in a number of countries, until told to stop.

And that anyone with the authority to tell them to stop is being systematically eliminated.

So how can this end? If the Israeli and US airforces go home, will Iran still be sporadically launching attacks on UAE, Bahrain, KSA, Qatar, Kuwait, and the shipping in the gulf and straits? It seems that there is increasingly no way to stop that from happening.

The only hope is that Iran still have enough fire power left to actually organize some response.
Why is that your "hope"? The Tehran theocracy has been a horrible regime, and Iranian people would be far better off with it in the dustbin of history.

The same they did it in Venezuela. Hope the person you put in charge pleases the opposition.

What, is 'hope it works out' not a viable strategy for determining an armistice?

I read that and was thinking, 30% of the nation supports this deranged dumbass who says deranged dumbass things and enacts deranged dumbass policies/actions.

I see nothing in the news about the ayatollah’s son taking over, or any leader at all. I have seen speculation that his grandson may be named as the new leader.

I'm not big on taking substack without unhealthy amounts of salt.

RawStory has it, but I find them to be a bit on the edge as well.
If this were true, it'd be extremely disturbing. My problem in taking this too seriously is I wouldn't expect such an attitude to go too deep down the command chain. Hegseth hasn't been able to infect it that quickly, I wouldn't think. I'll wait till a bigger outlet can report on this with verification.
Agreed. I've tried to find this on any news source that has some mainstream credibility, and haven't. All it has is a surface resemblance to WarMan Hegseth's creepy faith life.
So -- show me the details. See how easy it is not to jump on the disinformation choo-choo, righties?

I wonder if Trump would be nuts enough to use nukes if he decided that his unconstitutional war was going against him.

Am I kidding myself?

Of course he would.

The question is, who will stop this madman?

I found it on many sources including The Guardian, The New Republic and Common Dreams, among others. I'll simply post the last one as I don't subscribe to The Guardian, at least not for now.

US Commanders Want to Make War With Iran as ‘Bloody’ as Possible to Bring About Biblical End Times, Officers Report

One noncommissioned officer said he was directed to tell his troops that Trump was “anointed by Jesus” and that war with Iran was “all part of God’s divine plan” to bring about Armageddon.

The complaint, sent by one of those noncommissioned officers, was just one of at least 110 similar reports received by the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) since Trump first launched strikes on Saturday.

In compliance with the First Amendment, the Department of Defense has long adopted rules against proselytizing within the armed forces. But under Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, an evangelical Christian who has said the West must wage a “crusade” against Islam, Christian nationalist invocations in the military have become commonplace.

Sounds real considering how many sources are reporting it. I'll keep looking but this is extremely disturbing but not that surprising considering the madman in power and the insane religious beliefs of some in powerful positions.

Hegseth had a Doug Wilson revival at the Pentagon. That sets the tone for this.

Christian Nationalism
Theocracy
No separation of church and state
The law of their god is above the constitution.

I wish these people could be prosecuted for violating the oath of office. Call it treason when a politician who swore to protect and defend the constitution purposely violates it.

Little pissy pants has a tantrum about Spain not letting the US use bases in Spain for this adventure in Iran. Says he will block trade with Spain.

The Spanish government had over the weekend denied the use of its military bases to U.S. forces involved in the attack on Iran, including key refueling aircraft, because it considered the operation a violation of international law. Mr. Sánchez called the attack an “unjustified and dangerous military intervention.”

This apparently enraged Mr. Trump.

“And now Spain actually said we can’t use their bases. And that’s all right, we don’t want to do it. We could use the base if we want,” the president told reporters during a freewheeling news conference in the Oval Office “We could just fly in and use it, nobody is going to tell us not to use it. But we don’t have to.”

Where is a plan to put anyone in charge?

Hey, it worked in 1918. Mostly.

If he doesn’t want to use the bases what is he upset that they don’t want us to use the bases?

I feel sorry for the people for whom the rantings of Trump make sense.

According to Lindsey Graham it is not our job to decide who is in charge. Even though we just killed the man who was in charge.

You'd think. But them, why the trade ban.

The answer is that everything is about his ego. Nothing matters next to Trump's ego.
