I've never been in the military, but isn't this a condemnation of Hegseth's competence? He's basically saying he can't guarantee a soldiers safety on a fucking military base so they've gotta bring their own kit from home for protection.

Its interesting to compare how Swedes react towards Putin vs Trump. Swedes like their leaders to talk as little as possible. Most importantly, be consistent, don't make mistakes and absolutely not be caught lying. We'll check.

Yeah, I always found him repulsive. He seemed to capitalize on his own dodgy rep; there seemed to be a degenerate back story there, and according to wikipedia, that's not me imagining it. He's watchable playing a self-absorbed rock star in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, especially in the scene where Matthew the waiter (Jonah Hill) curses him.
But THIS clip -- this is gold. I'd guess, without seeing much of Brand's work, that this is his peak moment. It has perfect comic timing and hilarious throwaway lines (even though the act is unintended) and is the ultimate takedown of douches who insist that we hear their Bible musings.
