Yet another war, this time with Iran

We're already doing that. We bombed a civilian bridge in the middle of the day during a public holiday,
Bridges are dual use, i.e. they can be used for military purposes as well. Or do you think Iran has a separate set of military-only bridges in addition to "civilian bridges"?
Bridges often get taken out in wars. When Clinton bombed Serbia in the late 90s, the US military took out several civilian bridges too. Was that ok because Clinton is a Democrat, or because he bombed a Christian country on behalf of Muslims?
then double tapped with the explicit purpose of murdering civilian first responders, Putin-style.
[citation needed] especially re the "explicit purpose" claim.

Also... we're flying B-52s over Iran? To attack what?!
article said:
American bombers targeted Tehran on Monday night, Mr. Hegseth said, and Mr. Trump posted a video of massive explosions in Isfahan, a city in central Iran with about two million residents that has weapons production and nuclear facilities.
Well, at least Hegseth isn't flying them over in daytime.

The article says it: there are weapons production and nuclear facilities. Perfectly legitimate targets.

The alternative is that it signals a full on war crimes regime targeting civilian infrastructure that Iranians need to live.

At least eight dead, dozens injured. It's only going to get worse. This is policy, not accident. We want the rest of the world to regard us as the Fourth Reich, the violent leading edge of Western aggressive power. Killing innocent people is sad, but necessary to achieve that goal.
Yup. We’ve been committing war crimes almost from the start of this administration. Strikes on suspected drug traffickers, numerous issues in Iran. Trump says he’s immune, but not hegseth and others.
Trump would be in the spot as Hegseth: both are either immune or both are not.
Well, that's a question the Supreme Court didn't really decide. They decided that the president was immune - a bullshit decision for sure. But they never said anyone in the executive branch is immune from engaging in illegal activities.
War crimes is a charge for the International Court if Justice (ICJ). SCOTUS decisions are not controlling on it.

Reactions: SLD
So, to put the thing in focus:
1- It's not a war, it's an excursion.
2- We've won.
3- We've accomplished all our basic objectives.
4- We destroyed their nuclear capabilities last year, and we kept them from launching an imminent nuclear attack on us last month, and we may want to go in with ground forces to take out their nuclear capabilities.
5- We're within days or weeks of being done, and being done means a feeling in the Presidential skeleton.
6- We killed off level after level of their leadership, and we are in serious talks with their leadership.
7- Their navy is gone, their air force is nearly gone, and they have no anti-aircraft equipment. We will continue to hit them, hard.
8- We want their good citizens to seize control of the government, and we are going to bomb all of them back to the Stone Age, where they belong.
9- A former President told Trump, quote, "I wish I had done it," although the quote does not come from Clinton, Bush II, Obama, or Biden. I hope to fuck it wasn't Martin Van Buren.
10- NATO acted dishonorably in not helping in the Strait, but we don't need their help.
11- We need a little time to open up the Strait, but the U.S. doesn't need the Strait.
12. Oil tanker captains who won't go through the Strait are cowards.
13- We may take Kharg Island, or we may not, or we may bomb it just for fun.
14- No one knows who killed the school kids.
15. The whole thing is like Wii Sports -- see White House video.
16. Short term pain, long term gain (or, no, that was Melania's wedding vow.)

I still feel I'm missing the big picture. What did I leave out??

Another jet was shot down and the pilot was captured by Iranians.

Hey, barbos, are you learning anything from Americans and others bashing Hair Furor and his coterie of clowns in Washington? If so, would you care to apply that lesson to Adolf Putin and the Nazis in the Kremlin?

That was just one of many heinous war crimes committed by Bill Clinton during his tenure.

If you're trying to argue that two wrongs always make a right, there are some excellent preschools I can recommend for you, to begin the journey of finishing your education.

Isn’t it cute how Derec is now defending war crimes? Maybe he and barbos should join forces.

Meanwhile a plane lost in Iran, US desperately trying to find pilot and co-pilot before Iran does, assuming they survived. If Iran finds them first...

Fuck me. One of the pilots has been rescued. If Iran captures the other pilot, then we are really fucked. Trump would not be able to walk away like he planned as they would continue to hold him. Can you imagine the fire storm of Trump abandoned him?

That means he has to bomb them until they agree to release him. Which won’t work.

Holy shit. These dumb ass motherfuckers have really fucked up now.
Remember, any service member they capture is not an American hero. Here we prefer war heroes who don't get captured.

Let this sink in. In 2015, the Iran nuclear deal capped uranium enrichment at 3.5% with full international inspections. The IAEA repeatedly confirmed Iran was complying. Trump’s own Secretary of Defense testified it was in America’s national security interest to keep it. Trump tore it up in 2018 because it had Obama’s name on it. Iran immediately accelerated its nuclear program — exactly what the deal was designed to prevent. Eight years, a war, thousands of lives, and billions of dollars later — Trump’s envoys are now trying to negotiate the same enrichment limits and verification measures that already existed in the deal he destroyed. Read that again. He broke a working agreement. Created the crisis. Started a war. And is now trying to negotiate his way back to where we started — except now with less leverage, more enemies, and a body count. This isn’t dealmaking. This is ego dressed up as foreign policy. A man who burned down the house and is now asking for credit because he called the fire brigade. Meanwhile, the rest of the world — including Australia — is paying the price. Fuel shortages. Economic instability. A region in flames. All because one man couldn’t tolerate his predecessor’s name on a functioning agreement. The Art of the Deal in reverse.

OK, so Iran has now shot down an A-10 Warthog. No news yet on the pilot.

Millitarytimes.com is reporting is was near the strait and the the pilot was rescued.

So it seems likely that at some point Iran will capture a US service-person. Likely from a downed aircraft.

Will Iran treat that person as a prisoner of war or as a terrorist?

And how will Trump react? I think that Trump's natural inclination is to chalk the person down as a loser but his sycophants might persuade him not to do that. Will he start blowing up the electricity infrastructure? Will he order tactical nukes? Will he negotiate?

Iran is a 1 or 0. Trump is a continuum of responses, probably mostly counterproductive.

The first captured US serviceman will be treated as a publicity asset worth his weight in gold.

As for Trump's reaction, it will be drowned out by everyone on the internet replaying the video clip where Trump says, "He's a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren't captured."

Fuck me. Motherfucker. If that cocksucker even hints at that, I swear I might start a real revolution.

The A-10 was in the rescue mission. Different issue. But it is another plane down.

Correct. Trump is only immune to U.S. judgment.

While the US doesn't recognize the authority of the ICJ, it would be interesting for Trump to be subject to potential arrest if he leaves the US, much like other war criminals like Putin and Netanyahu.
