California Doing California Things

And Ronnie Raygun … I’m sure you heard of him. Another stellar product of California Democratz and their trickle-down nonsense.
Oh, wait …🙄
Dude. RR ended his term in CA over a half century ago. Time to move on.

My major issue is we are a one party state. What one party wants, the state gets. We need some balance here. I have no issue per se with any reasonable politician of any party. CA has produced some fine Democrats, like Dianne Feinstein (the non-dementia version anyway) and Leon Panetta (Fun fact, his son Carmelo was best man at my brother's wedding in 1988)., among others.

WELL, look who's crawling back in shame to the Golden State!

A few years back, Bed Bath and Beyond made big headlines bashing California's supposedly totalitarian regulatory environment and insisting that post-bankruptcy, they would be doing businesses in every US state except for evil, evil California, the state that gave them their start as well as the majority of their remaining business. Tswizzle, of course, bought that line hook line and sinker.

California has "created one of the most overregulated, expensive, and risky environments for businesses in America,” cried their CEO, Marcus Limonis, making “harder to employ people, harder to keep doors open, and harder to deliver value to customers.”

This week, that same CEO has proudly announced their glorious return to the state and the opening of 12 new locations, as well as the acquisition of another California chain, The Container Store. Turns out the state wasn't the problem, they are just bad at business. I hope they all go bust, we're flush with bottom-feeders anyway! Everyone wants what we got, but not everyone has what it takes to stay in the game. (I am sad they'll probably take the Container Store down with them though. Morons.)
Nobody missed them. The thing these companies don't like about California is not just the overregulation, but the competition. Any one business leaving the state will not be noticed because the space will be filled before that business leaves the state.

It's a big state with a lot of money. The margins are lower but that's made up for with quantity.

It's somewhat similar the post last week about K&B leaving the state. They didn't really leave, they just moved their HQ to Arizona. Meanwhile all the land they own and homes they sell will still be here. If they decided to not build in California, they'd hit bankruptcy at light speed.

The state is severely over regulated and a lot things need changing, but that doesn't mean there's not big money.
Yup! I don't recall anyone being like "If only Bed, Bath, and Beyond was still here!" It'd be silly, we have like 7 major furniture and decor outlets in my sleepy Valley town alone. I assure you no one in SF is currently bereft of a lampshade!

Lissen here Sonny, a half century ain’t a gnat’s ass to a Methuselah like me! Especially since he still imposes his reek upon our economy!
Sure, Gramps.

I guess it is a matter of perspective. If we had some 100 year old guy regularly posting here, we would have to put up with rants about Warren Harding.

Hey! I’ll BE that guy in a short 24 years, and I can promise you right now, I will NOT be initiating any discussion of Warren Harding, his “Ohio Gang”, his Teapot Dome scandal, his boy Albert Fall shaking down oil companies, or - omfg! I withdraw my promise! But I’ll probably still be busy complaining about Trump. 😝

Well your problem is the the Bible Belt dragged the Overton Window so far right it's practically off the wall, but the CA voters didn't follow it.

If you want to become a two party state again, you likely need a new political party somewhere on the left, to balance the right-wing Democrats, and the ultra-right-wing Republicans.

Well, we were talking RR's record as CA governor, not as POTUS which came years later. The title of the article seems hyperbolic at a Trumpian level, though, which makes me wonder about its bias and accuracy. He ruined everything? Even my souffle?

Not really because I don't know what is true and what is false at this point or who in the DNC knew what, if anything he was up to. I will wihat and see what happens as time goes on.
I might pause a bit if I heard that a politician was known as, say, a womanizer, or as having a girl in every port, that sort of thing. Or owned a networks of tv shows that are known for sexually exploiting young women, for instance. That's a last-minute #metoo situation just waiting to happen. But I still wouldn't demand that they be barred from a political campaign. Still less for a "flirty reputation", that could mean a lot of things, most of them not illegal or even immoral. Flirting is fine, by itself, it isn't a harassment unless it becomes a pattern of unreciprocated and unwanted sexual overtures.
Yeah. Known womanizers--if you're going to pair up with such a person you presumably know what you're getting. Not ideal but the truly good people never get in office in the first place. Reasonable reason to believe a lack of consent is quite another matter! (I remain quite skeptical about claims of long-ago actions, though. I used to think all such were inherently unprovable and thus shouldn't be made, but now we have had multiple cases where the accused has convinced me of their guilt.)

I think that’s a limiting factor, but it is constantly challenged by the MASSIVE retail market California represents.
Plus, a lot of very rich people live in California and/or spend a significant amount of their time there, because it contains some of the most idyllic and spectacular environments money can buy.
Even a private jet means being constrained in space for prolonged periods.

I remember my opinion of him when he was Governor. I thought he was truly a joke. bedtime for Bonzo? Seriously?
When he won the presidency it was kind of a rude awakening for me.

Maybe Eric Swalwell is the single unluckiest person in the world?
Live by the witchhunt, die by the witchhunt.
I like how people like thebeave, Derec, and TSwizzle think rape is a serious charge and Swalwell is entitled to due process... but simultaneously that this is a "witchhunt". Which implies they don't believe the accusations are real at all, from the start, going from Swalwell is innocent until proven guilty to the Swalwell accusers are lying. Which oddly enough, perjury is also a crime, but the women aren't entitled to being innocent until proven guilty as well.
Witch-hunt has two common usages.

1) The hunt for non-existent wrongs. I don't think anyone is saying this is the case.

2) A witch trial always ends with the accused being dead. And all too often the sexual misconduct allegations against those on the left work this way.

Families: the term "trad wife" has become a derogatory term directed toward women who want to have a traditional marriage i.e. husband and children. These comments are almost exclusively pointed toward white women and therefore white families.
You need to learn what the terms mean! "Trad wife" is not simply about having a husband and children, but about him being completely in control and she stays at home.
I could go on e.g. illegal immigration, support of Hamas, antisemitism, the university system, etc.
I don't think the university system is flawed as such. Studying the sciences tends to move people to the left.

I do agree there's a problem with with supporting things that should not be supported, but that's due to a very large and well planned campaign of misinformation. The right demonizes those who won't roll over for fascism, the left demonizes those who won't roll over for Islamic fundamentalism.

And few are interested in trying to teach people how to avoid falling for the propaganda because it would work both ways.

DEI is about treating people differently based on race to achieve "equity". It is very related to the concept of "affirmative action" and is indeed racist against white people.
uh huh...
There is an actual issue with DEI--plenty of cases where there's obviously a thumb on the scale, always justified as correcting past wrongs. (Never mind that that's impossible.) But the reich are using it to describe anyone other than a straight white male.

That's what DEI is, no matter your uh uh ahing.

As to you mentioning KBJ, Biden made it explicit that he would not consider anybody but a black women for the position. How is that not treating people differently based on race (and gender)?

He did the same when he selected Kamala Harris for his running mate (with disastrous consequences in 2024) and Goodhair did the same when he pledged to only consider black women for US Senate seat.

This.

And they think they are more virtuous for doing so.

so an investigative reporter exposes the mass fraud going on in California. The response from Sacramento is not to investigate further. Indeed, insufferable prick Newsom rails against such things by calling Dr Oz a racist and the attorney general's wife creates a bill to stop people investigating fraud.

California lawmakers were confronted at the state Capitol in Sacramento as independent journalist Nick Shirley filmed a video published this week questioning Assembly Bill 2624, a proposal California Republicans have dubbed the "Stop Nick Shirley Act," during interviews with Democratic and Republican legislators about the bill's scope and intent. "If this bill were to get passed, instead of going after the fraudsters, they’re trying to make it criminal to go after the people that are committing this fraud," Shirley said in the video posted to his YouTube page. The video centered on California Assembly Bill 2624, authored by Assemblymember Mia Bonta, D-Oakland, which seeks to restrict the public posting of personal information of individuals connected to immigration support services, including nonprofit organizations, legal clinics and health care providers.

California is corrupt af.
The Felon is corrupt as fuck and this provides a "justification" to quit spending money that they don't want to spend, but don't want to be blamed for not spending.

They're screaming fraud but they are basing the allegations on faked things. Remember the video "exposing" the daycare that had nobody there--filmed at an hour they were not open??

Seriously? Its not just investigations by youtube journalists, et al. CBS News has been investigating the hospice fraud in California for a while now. They don't seem to be chasing ghosts:

We analyzed records of LA hospices to spot red flags for fraud. Here’s what we found.

Hospice fraud hearing exposes toll of suspected scams: "The American people are demanding answers"
