California Doing California Things

"Trad wife" is a pejorative term directed at white American families and nothing less; and how that's spun into the husband dominating the wife is flat out bizarre. Your interpretation is a paper thin attempt to provide cover for yet another reason so many people have been pushed away from voting for more progressive candidates.
Where in the world did you get this idea?

Here's another tradwife promoter.

And according to Gemini:
1. Online Subculture Origins (Mid-2010s)
  • Message Boards: Early evidence suggests the term first appeared around 2013–2015 on platforms like 4chan and Reddit.
  • Meme Culture: It gained traction through the "Tradwife Wojak" meme in 2019, which depicted a cartoon ideal of a submissive, floral-dress-wearing woman.
  • Ideological Ties: In its earliest usage, the term was often linked to "Red Pill" forums and far-right movements that advocated for a return to patriarchal family structures.

Would you like me to smack you around some more, Colonel?

:consternation2: Why on earth do you feel you've smacked him around? How do you figure what you said conflicts with what CS said?

So when CS said ""Trad wife" is a pejorative term directed at white American families and nothing less" when the term was actually originated by the trad wives themselves isn't a conflict?

Do you think if a progressive said "Woke" and "Politically Correct" are pejorative terms directed at progressives, and a conservative pointed out and documented that those terms were used as self-descriptions by leftists before conservatives ever adopted them, this would qualify as the progressive being smacked around? Do you think it would show those terms aren't pejoratives?
Did you miss the "and nothing less" part? Apparently CS didn't understand the term trad wife was originated by trad wives. No one dispute woke and politically correct's origins.

And frankly I have never seen trad wife used as pegorative though I have no doubt it has been used that way. I certainly don't see it being as widespread as as woke and politically correct became by the right.

It's very similar to"woke"; the term has become a pejorative. Arguing that the definition of a word or term can't change over time or be moderated is silly. The etymology of the term is irrelevant. 4Chan nor anyone else is the rightful owner of the term. I don't give half a crap where the term came from anyway. What I do care about is that it has come to be a leftist insult directed at tens of millions of voters, which in turn helps Republicans win elections.

If you'd rather have abortion illegal in many states, the potential end of same sex marriage, and hard work being put in to making the U.S. a practical theocracy, then by all means, keep pushing this shit.

Obviously not since tradwives and their supporters still use it to describe themselves. Yes, some may use it as a pejorative but it hasn't changed the meaning in the lexicon the way woke and politically correct became.

Can you please provide some links to where this widespread pejorative use of the term is displayed? Especially display content by prominent Democrats.

Also, the video you posted doesn't help your cause at all. You seem fine with catering to insignificant voting demographics while assuming that women who have families aren't really making up their own minds when clearly they are. This brings me to the same point I've made numerous times here. YOU and those like you have caused people to perceive the left as being disdainful of those who choose to have families and to structure those families the way they wish.
Literally no one objects to "having families". What planet do you even live on? The offensive part of the #tradwife movement is the blatant intent to subject women to servitude under their husbands. Not "having families". Anyone can have a family. You don't have to submit to your husband in all things to have children, and I would argue you're setting a pretty bad example for your sons and daughters like if you're teaching them that god wants women to serve men.

:confused2: The term having been originated by the trad wives themselves is something more, not something less. New usages arise when terms jump from one speech community to another; CS was just commenting on one particular speech community's use.

Um, that might be related to the tradwives being a lot less pushy than the wokes. (And, of course, to the tradwives not having been peddling their material as long.)

I've seen plenty of evidence that tradwives use the term as a self-descriptor. Have we seen any evidence that it is used by Democratic politicians as a slur?

It's a cultural issue, not a scientific one. A good place to take the temperature on this issue is Reddit. I eventually unjoined and hid everything having to do with politics and social issues there because it's a terrible place to discuss important things. However, the anti-family, anti-semitic, and disdain for the majority demographics of this nation are ever present. This stuff gets out into the real world and affects how people perceive even the slightest the left of center. I've refrained from saying the following because it's so cliche, BUT perception really is reality in this/these case(s).

With respect to Democrats, although it appears to be changing, their silence on these matters now and support in the past speaks for itself.

I can't help you read the room, so to speak and I'm done repeating myself on this while you set up strawmen in order to prove the [non]truth of what you're saying.

I do need help, though! Please help me read the room as you do. Perhaps you can provide us with some examples of California Democrats trash-talking mothers as a general class?

He thinks people using tradwife as a pejorative makes them not want to vote for Democrats, as if tradwives were sitting on the fence deciding which party to vote for.

If he were claiming that woke never meant "being aware of systemic discrimination" until conservatives started accusing wokes of being such, your analogy would be relevant.
:consternation1: Sorry, not seeing where CS is supposed to have claimed "tradwife" never meant "traditional wife" until leftists started using it as a negative.

Or... well, if politically correct had ever been used unironically, I suppose.
:consternation1: It was originally used unironically, obviously. The center-leftists who took up using it ironically as a dig at the Marxists wouldn't have had any reason to, or any irony, if Marxists hadn't used it on themselves first.

Everyone who literally remembered the 1916 genocide of Armenians by Turks is long dead, so it's no skin off my nose how any legislator votes on a holiday about it. It's a free country. Telling other people what to remember or enumerate is Loren's thing. My thing is telling you not to falsely accuse Loren of "honoring" and "celebrating" genocide.
I corrected my post, at your suggestion. Do you need some cheese with that whine?

Good, now that you've eaten, you can explain to me how to "remember" something without "enumerating" what happened.
:picardfacepalm:
It wasn't a whine; it was an evidently much-needed reminder that I cut in to scold you for your appalling behavior, not to advocate for Loren's contention. It seems there's some part of "no skin off my nose how any legislator votes on a holiday about it" you still don't understand.

You keep challenging me to back up other people's claims. That's not really how debate works. I pointed out ZH's contention didn't conflict with CS's; that's not a claim that CS was right.

Moreover, I think you're vastly overestimating the number of husbands in the fifties who told their wives how to vote.
I'm not the one hawking this bull...
You're the one hawking this bull:

they are actively trying to bring full-time unpaid labor without representation on the basis of gender.

and hawking this bull:

What part of "submit to your husband in all things" do you not understand? Doubling his vote is a critical part of the MAGA strategy

The trope that traditional housewives just vote for the man their husbands vote for keeps getting recycled even though back in the fifties George Gallup pointed out it wasn't fact-based. Ironically, it appears to have been originally invented by suffragettes in order to make giving women the vote feel less threatening to male chauvinist pigs.

It stuck a lot better than it would have, had it been a complete fiction.

Trying to move the goalpost, I see. We aren't talking about actual "traditional housewives" of the actual 1950s, we're talking about the #tradwife movement of the 2020s. Your derail has fuck-all to do with the topic at hand.

Ironically, it appears to have been originally invented by suffragettes in order to make giving women the vote feel less threatening to male chauvinist pigs.
And your sense of history is decades off track, as well. Suffragettes? In 1950s California?? En serio?

No one needs or wants you to "scold" me for anything, gramps. Of what possible value could that be?
