Keiko Fujimori (yes... that Fujimori) and Roberto Sanchez (ally of imprisoned former President) are the two candidates in a runoff for the position of President, until presumably their own incarceration. The election results are being counted and Fujimori is currently up by 0.2%, 50.1% to 49.9%.

article said:
The winner will be the South American country's ninth president in 10 years. Fujimori, daughter of a disgraced former president, and Sánchez, an ally of an imprisoned ex-president, were on the runoff's ballot after beating 33 other candidates in the vote in April, but neither earned even 20% of support. Electoral authorities took more than a month to declare them winners of that contest.

...

In the capital, Lima, voter turnout throughout the day appeared lower than in the previous contest, with practically no lines in many voting centers, despite voting being mandatory.

The disease of totally unsuitable candidates is not just a 'western' problem.

How do we find suitable candidates?
Make power a chore that nobody wants, and nobody can get rich from.

The only candidates should be people who can honestly say "Well, I could do it, but I really don't want to, unless nobody else will take it on".

Cincinnatus is always a good model to compare against.

Fucking vote for them. Jimmy Carter was probably the greatest man to be US President... and the US threw him to the curb for a former actor who threw the mentally ill onto the streets in California.

People say they want good governance... but they certainly don't vote for it, the truth, or decency.

There are two problems with government.
1) The people in government
2) The people who are governed

Until we can get people out of the equation, government is going to be far from perfect.

Can't wait until our AI overlords take over.
