Two Minnesota Lawmakers Shot

I would have hoped that the clear and obvious example currently playing out before our noses would have made people embarrassed and ashamed to have ever said "Both sides ..." in the Trump era of politics.

But it appears that some people really don't ever fucking learn anything.
Neither side is without blame. As is always the case. But IMO, one side has been far worse than the other, particularly with regards to political violence, adhering to rule of law, operating within the confines of the Constitution, and working for the people and not for corporations ( or hostile foreign powers).

There is no equivalency between the Magats and the Democrats.

“Dad went to war last night,” Boelter messaged his family that morning. “Words are not going to explain how sorry I am.”

Boelter, an evangelical Christian with politically conservative views who had traveled to Congo as a preacher and missionary, spent much of his life in the food service industry. He had been struggling to earn a living before the shootings, after the failure of a security company he’d founded.

He plead guilty and gets two consecutive lifetime sentences, plus some federal charges to run concurrently.

The white nationalist killer gets supported for the rest of his unremorseful life by the taxpayers of my state.

It's cheaper than imposing the death penalty.

I think the sentence is fair. Hopefully no chance of parole. On principle, I oppose the death penalty.

There is a non zero chance he'll get pardoned next month though.

Trump can pardon the federal charges, but not the state ones - and those are the life sentences.

While I am against the death penalty, I will not shed a tear for Mr Boelter when he meets his maker. I can always hope his desired meeting with his savior comes earlier rather than later.

Wouldn't the death penalty be cheaper? Financially at least.

Imagine, Spandau Prison was kept open from 1966 to 1987 with one prisoner, Rudolf Hess. The bastard had the audacity to live till 93. Finally offed himself.

Presisely what I had in mind.
Though the Soviets had ulterior motives to keeping Hess alive. Even at the height of the Cold Wat it enabled them to have a presence in West Berlin.

Presisely what I had in mind. Though I suspect he had help at the end. At 93 his physical condition would have made it extremely difficult for him to have hung himself.

It would be if there not multiple appeal opportunities.

Minnesota doesn’t have the death penalty. At the federal level there is, but the federal prosecutor did not pursue the death penalty.
