2026 Mid-Term Elections

It appears Platner is likely to leave the race with the latest set of accusations. With this coming after the primary, it gets messy with selecting a candidate.
I don't think Platner understands how this works. You step away because of scandal doesn't make you a kingmaker. You aren't even likely going to be wanted on the campaign trail!
It looks like he is ready to torpedo any chances Dems have of gaining that Senate seat unless he gets his way. He is quite Trumpian in that regard.
The selection of a candidate would require instant name recognition, which makes one think Gov. Mills is going to have to suck it up, and go for the role again. Those excited by a Platner nomination aren't going to like this. No idea if they have the pragmatism to make the right choice if they have to choose Mills or not vote for Senate (at all?).
Mills never seemed to have her heart and soul in that race. Hardly surprising, given her 78 years.
Appears there is a ticking clock with this decision. A matter of days where the rules allow the Democrats to choose a replacement.
If he drops out by Monday, Dems have another two weeks to nominate someone else. Could they hold a nominating caucus in that time, so it's not just the party selecting somebody from on high?
I think the candidate needs to be younger to appease the primary voters that wanted someone younger, but "liberal" can be tricky in Maine and the boat needs to steer appropriately within the political waters in Maine, or end up run aground and rusting like the Red October.
Younger than Collins and Mills should be a given. I do not think finding someone "liberal" will be an issue, but people like Platner are just leftist populists, not liberal in any sense.
I don't know much about Maine politicians. It looks like people mentioned to replace Platner ran for the gubernatorial nomination. Shah came in close second (and came in first in round 1), so he seems popular. Jackson and Bellows came in third and fourth.

I posted about this in the "here comes the left" thread. The weird thing is that the woman who just said she was charged with sexual assault by Platner, mentioned he was very drunk when it happened and he feel asleep right afterwards, and didn't remember raping her. What I'd like to know is why didn't she call the cops after he fell asleep. I'm not saying he didn't assault her, but what woman wouldn't call the police in such a situation. I sure would.

So far, he's not stepping down but the Dems are arguing over who should replace him. WTF! We have a criminal in the WH who over 20 women claimed were sexually assaulted by him and there is plenty of evidence, he was involved with the Epstein crimes. What kind of men are we electing these days? Fuck. We need more women in Congress etc. Men really know how to fuck things up. And, no I don't want to hear from our sexist member about how hard men have it. Less than half of Congress are female! We've never had a female president. That sucks!

On Fox Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) declared, “The one thing I know about Republicans: When we had a very bad candidate and found out, we didn’t vote for that person. We walked away.”

Pete Hegseth
Roy Moore
Matt Gaetz
Tony Gonzalez
Blake Farenthold
Pat Meehan
Jim Jordan
And the King of the skeevs Donald Trump.

I'm sure I missed some. You're welcome to add names.

The entire Sedition Caucus.

I'm pretty certain, the number of women sexually assaulted who didn't call the police is >> 0.

Less worried about gender at the moment. The key is getting a candidate who is right for the electorate (younger, moderate to liberal, actual experience)... and has fewer tattoos and isn't currently stripping their social media accounts.

Let's just hope he steps down by early next week or his name will be the only Dem on the ballot. Will there be some charasmatic person who could win by people writing in their name? I doubt it.

And, I do care about gender very much. I'm not saying I wouldn't vote for a man but men have been running the country for far too long. And, if you've read much about the history of Matriarchal societies, you'd know that the evidence is that they are more peaceful and better run compared to the Patriarchal ones. Not that I'm expecting to bring Matriarchal societies back, but we definitely need more women running the government.

Of course, I don't get to vote in Maine and I'm satisfied with my two male Senators, especially after Warnock said it didn't matter what one believed, it mattered what their moral values were, but I'd prefer at least one good female one, as well as a female governor like Stacey Abrams. The current female running for governor in Georgia is not very good, but I'll vote for her over the horrible billionaire Republican male.

There is a very dynamic, charismatic female running for Congress in my district, but my district is so conservative that I don't have much hope she will win. If more of us work to get out the vote, she might have a chance. I'm probably going to volunteer in some way to do that. Voter apathy, especially in the midterms is a huge problem, at least here in Georgia.

He said he is going to drop out, but that he won't formally do it until Monday. So, it seems that he is playing games.

Jimmy is right. A candidate should be selected without reference to race and gender. A woman is already the Dem nominee for ME governor to replace Mills, another woman. I think Nirav Shah is the most formidable candidate in the running.

Depends on the woman. The women that went into the government after Sweden imposed a rigid gender quota were largely radical feminists who passed misandrist legislation like the infamous "Swedish model" for criminalizing sex work that only penalizes mostly male clients while treating the mostly female providers as "victims" regardless of circumstances and does not penalize them at all.

Who do you mean?

Er...not exactly. Have you been following the WNBA lately, especially regarding Caitlin Clark? Women don't necessarily place nice or run things better.

The WNBA is not a matriarchal society just because it has women in it. Terms have meanings.

It seems to me that what you really meant to say is something different than what you actually said, but only you can be the judge of that.

Stupid strawman.
Not so, but an accurate assessment. The Dems were blasé about their great fake-blue collar hope having a Nazi tattoo. They yawned at all the other red flags he demonstrated.
But when he was accused of rape, the Dems dropped him faster than a 3540 Curie cylinder of Cobalt 60.

Have you considered the possibility that the credibility of rape allegation is enhanced by the earlier allegations of sexual misconduct and much more serious than an old Nazi tattoo ?

When will Trump declare a state of emergency and stop the midterm elections?

tRump's plan is to create distrust of the voting process.
I read an AlterNet article that found that conservatives are more likely to distrust the system than liberals.
