Mitch McConnell Gone?

It pains me to say this, but I agree with Andrew Wang, the democratic party is a dead brand. We're probably going to pretty good in November, and we'll do slightly better than republicans in 2028. But imo, this is more of a function that the republicans are throwing it away due to incredibly dumb shit. Americans are sick of foreign wars and inflation. The republicans don't care! But they will course correct sometime soon. Long term, we are fucked. IMO, we've been fucked since Gore lost. We're flat out dead in more than 30 states.
To be clear, that is a result of the 2010 election and the criminal level of state legislative gerrymandering because American voters freaked the "fuck out" over the ACA.

Gore lost in 2000. I see the decline and malise in the democratic party really started in 1994 when Gingrich republicans destroyed the dems and took the house. This happened despite a majority of voters being democratic and Bill Clinton very being popular. Obviously it was a signal that people didn't want Hillary-Care. But democratic turnout was terrible that election.

This means that long term, the senate is gone. But then there is a population shift from blue states to red states. We've lost the supreme court for a generation, maybe more. And now, we're losing minorities, younger voters, and women voters. Again, we're going to have a good run for a short time, but long term, the democratic party is dead.
Right now the Democrat Party has a couple huge issues. The average American voter and the GOP's relentless drive to win an election. The Democrats passed a private market type solution for health care insurance access and the voters made them pay of which the impact went deep in the US political system. The US prefers liberal policies, but votes Republican (lower taxes) and generally only votes out Republicans when they have fucked up royally. And the GOP had a subliminal advertisement, stepped in the way of counting votes in Florida, made shit up over Kerry's Vietnam service, to either conspired to cause or enabled the Capitol riot. The GOP isn't afraid to fight dirty and message very negatively, or give a middle finger to an election result. According to the GOP, the Democrats are communists now.

That is our fault. The republicans started calling democrats slight left of center socialists and communists in the 1950's. Then I don't why, but many on the left started embracing this conservative label. And now we are all being lumped in with the DSA folks who want to shut down all the prisons and have public ownership of all corporations. The republicans are savvy, we are the suckers.

Loper Bright was multi-generational for SCOTUS. The election of Trump in 2016 had generational impact. Meanwhile Social Security is headed towards a shortfall. The Democrats can't run on much because Americans want solutions that don't cost anything and they don't want to bother understanding any of the problems and messaging them is nearly impossible... so the Democrat ads are about Data Centers and cost of living.

And bonus issue, Trump normalized bald faced lying.

He's also incredibly normalized graft and outright bribery. There is a conservative government watchdog group that claims that Trump has grafted (is that a word?} more than 2 billion dollars! Remember the paltry white water scandal and the "$5,000,000 for the big guy"!! Again, we're going to win in November and most likely in two years. But it's more because the republicans are going against the voters wishes (inflation, Iran and etc). But they will course correct. And the fundamental problems plaguing the democratic party will bite us severely in the near future. Sorry that I'm such a downer lately!

I just got a letter today from my Medicare provider that my assigned doctor (who I've actually never even met!) is retiring next month. My new assigned doctor's name is Elaine Chau (not a joke!). Wondering if I should risk a few Mitch jokes to break the ice when I meet her? Like "How's Turtle?" or "Seen Granny lately?". "Is he really still alive?". "When you flip him onto his back, can he flail his arms and legs and right himself on his own?"

That gives me an idea - strap a turtle to McConnel's back and he'll be immortal. A turtle centipede, if you will.

While Massie can run for the Senate seat, he can be primaried or primaried-lite just as easily there too. If the deadline passes, as does McConnell, there is no one to fill the seat.

For some weird reason, Kentucky passed a law that took the Governor's power to temporarily name a replacement. And that was after a few years prior to that, making the Governor have to choose an option from a list put together by the party the deceased Senator was from. I can't imagine for a moment why they would have done that.

Sen. McConnell discharged from rehab center, continuing recovery at home

Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) said he was discharged Thursday from a rehabilitation center and would continue his recovery at home from a fall that has kept him from the Senate for nearly two months.

McConnell, 84, has been absent from the Senate since he was hospitalized June 14 following a fall at home. He said last month that he had moved to a rehabilitation center but has not provided a timeline for his return.

McConnell suggested Thursday that he would not return to the Senate before the chamber leaves for a five-week recess in the coming days. The Senate is scheduled to return to Washington on Sept. 14.
“On the advice of my doctors, I’ll maintain an intensive regimen of physical therapy from home during the state work period, and I’ll continue to engage with my staff and colleagues on important Senate business,” McConnell said in a statement.
Crap.

“McConnell suggested Thursday”…
To whom did he make the suggestion?
“In a statement”? Who heard or saw him make this alleged suggestion?

“I’ll continue to engage with my staff” he is reported by someone to have stated to someone. But his staff isn’t detailing a lot of “engagement” afaik.
Still as good as dead if he’s not dead, which is far ftom certain based on the fact that there is no live footage of him saying or doing ANYTHING.

Indeed. That whole blurb/excerpt smells like crap.

It is time to accept that Mitch McConnell suffered from an incident that is not uncommon among people his age, and is recovering as such.

There really is no benefit to Weekend at Bernies him as the Democrat Governor can't replace him and the MAGA movement would easily get some sort of more reliable replacement for him. If anything, if I were Mitch, I'd stay away from windows as the MAGA movement gains in his passing.

Sheesh - and you come down on me for painting him Bernie?
If the fascists want him gone they won’t hesitate to enlist a doctor (one who understands what is good for his own health) and there will be an unfortunate fatal relapse.

Will he infest any conversation when "Turtles all the way down" is used?

You've looked at the cunts voting habits? The answer is the same.
His votes are infinitely regressive? I think it's his dwindling life, the pieces going away get smaller and smaller and ..............
