California Doing California Things

In the fourth largest economy in the world, when there's an unexpected disease...
An unexpected disease? 😂 Uh, yeah. No one coulda seen this coming.

Did you even watch the video?
Do you have a coherent point you are trying to make, or you just trying to goad me into "misquoting" you? If you are trying to make a relevant argument, consider using words.

Republicans are fundamentally dishonest traitors, who cry "fraud, fraud", as they themselves violate election laws with unprecedented frequency and shocking scale. This man came very close to becoming a gubernatorial candidate in November! An unashamed criminal, with a badge and a long chorus line of endorsements from his Party's leadership. Disgusting.

A Republican California sheriff must return more than a half-million ballots he seized for an investigation into unfounded voting improprieties in a special election last year, the state Supreme Court ruled Thursday.

Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco in February seized approximately 650,000 ballots from a November 2025 special election on statewide congressional redistricting favorable to Democrats and pushed by Gov. Gavin Newsom. The measure easily passed statewide, and won in Bianco’s county by roughly 80,000 votes

(He doesn’t seem to be running the state these days)
Wait, is that actually supposed to be a criticism?

The governor is not and has never been, nor is supposed to be, a monarch. His primary function is to manage the various state agencies, veto laws at need, and oversee the national guard, and represent the state in diplomatic situations. That's it. Not to micromanage every city's crime, litter, wokeness, whatever.

This is what we have to put up with in Los Angeles

More than 12,000 homeless-related fires have been reported in Los Angeles so far this year, according to data from the Los Angeles Fire Department. The department recorded 12,241 fires classified as "Homeless or Encampment Related" from Jan. 1 through Sept. 20 of this year. That's down about 6% from the same time last year, but still averages out to 47 homeless related fires every day in the city.

And this city is going to host the Olympics.

Don't worry about it, they'll bus out the homeless and clean everything before the Olympians show up. Kind of like they did for Xi when he visited SF.

Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a first-in-the-nation law that requires large companies to disclose if they or their predecessors profited from chattel slavery. The Truth in Disclosure Act will require major companies operating in the state to disclose these historical and financial ties to enslavement-related transactions. The bill was a top priority for the California Legislative Black Caucus this year. No other state requires corporations to account for their historical role in the slave economy, according to advocates.

Hopefully Steve Hilton wins and we can do away with these pointless exercises.

“down about 6% from the same time last year“
@TSwizzle, you forgot to say “Thank you, Governor Newsom!”
If a Rethuglican accomplished that, they’d instantly be your boss hero. Of course being a Republican, they would reflexively oppose anything requiring truth in disclosure

California’s High Speed Rail Authority paid nearly $600,000 in unallowable travel expenses to “questionable locations that appear unrelated to state business,” including trips to gyms, a nightclub, an escape room, a tiki bar and a cigar lounge over a two-year period, according to an investigation released Tuesday by the inspector general that oversees the agency. The report found that the agency routinely reimbursed consultants for trips that were unauthorized or poorly justified. Some consultants flew first-class and were reimbursed without questioning, in violation of contracts and state policies. One consultant flew his private plane from Washington, D.C. to California and was reimbursed for a premium fare.

Private jet?!!

Gov. Gavin Newsom vetoed a bill that aimed to boost oversight of California’s High-Speed Rail Authority. Assembly Bill 1608 by Assembly Transportation Committee Chair Lori Wilson, a Suisun City Democrat, would have allowed the Office of Inspector General that oversees the high-speed rail project to hire more skilled workers and given the agency the power to sign contracts under $1 million.

Of course he vetoed it.

Some 18 years after California voted to launch a bullet train that would travel between San Francisco and Los Angeles in under three hours, the project now costs billions more than planned, is years behind schedule and has yet to lay its first track.

18 years in, billions of dollars over budget and still not a lick of track put down.

Why would you want that? Is it slavery specifically that you support, or ending accountability generally?

Is it slavery specifically that you support, or ending accountability generally?
You’re asking a guy who proudly voted for a career criminal, convicted fraudster, adjudicated rapist, notorious racist and psychopathic liar?
You’re asking him to order his priorities for YOUR benefit?
WHY?

Gov. Gavin Newsom’s pet volunteer project — a program that brought tears to his eyes in March — has been flagged by federal auditors as having weak oversight of millions of dollars in grant money. A federal audit found ineffective oversight at California Volunteers and questioned $10.8 million in a nonprofit’s grant costs, raising accountability questions for Newsom and Josh Fryday, the governor’s “Chief Service Officer” who unsuccessfully ran for lieutenant governor this year. The report — commissioned by the AmeriCorps Office of Inspector General — found California Volunteers and three of seven organizations examined failed to comply with federal grant requirements. Auditors recommended recovering nearly $4.8 million in federal funding from CivicWell and disallowing another $6 million in matching contributions.
