Israel Loses In Israeli Election

"They started it", is never a good enough excuse to commit genocide.
There is no genocide. People die in wars, even innocent people. This is made worse by Hamas committing war crimes of using civilian areas to operate from - like tents in Al Mawasi or hospitals.
And Berlin was also a pile of rubble in 1945. Not a genocide either. I also don't think Germans in Berlin cared much if FDR or Dewey would win in 1944, but so what?
And as it has been pointed out ad fucking nauseum only 8% of the adult population in Gaza has ever voted for Hamas. Israelis might call that democracy - I don't.
The reason Abbas keeps delaying elections for decades is that Hamas is likely to win again.

There is no genocide.
Bullshit. If the positions were reversed you would be the loudest voice screaming about it.
Hamas and Israel are not interchangeable, any more than the Axis Powers and the Allies were interchangeable during WWII.
One side is a genocidal, fascistic aggressor, the other is defending itself, and yes, in the process takes the war to the initial aggressor - Hamas and Axis, respectively.

The only reason Gaza is a pile of rubble is that Gaza started a war of aggression against Israel.
While probably not technically a genocide, the "Gaza is a pile of rubble" would be a war crime or crime against humanity as was the attempted mass displacement of Gazans into Egypt.

Of course, this is about Israel's election which Netanyahu lost a good deal of seats and majority, in an election that no one really won. It isn't a complete rebuke of his policies, however, it wasn't otherwise either.

Over the course of the Gaza war, which began in 2023, the State of Israel has been accused by hundreds of humanitarian and human rights organizations (NGOs, INGOs, and IGOs) of perpetrating a genocide targeting the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. This accusation became more widespread among the international community as formal statements declaring the Gaza genocide to be a fact were increasingly issued by several prominent and reputable organizations around the world upon the conclusion of comprehensive academic and legal investigations on the matter, including: the United Nations (via a special committee and commission of inquiry), the International Association of Genocide Scholars, the Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention, Genocide Watch, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and Médecins Sans Frontières. As a result, many countries have recognized the Gaza genocide, while others have deferred their position on recognition in the ongoing International Court of Justice case brought by South Africa. A number of countries besides Israel have denied the Gaza genocide on various grounds.

The big problem is the most likely opponent of Netanyahu, Gadi Eisenkot, is the guy who created the Dahiya Doctrine. Which basically says collective punishment is good and civilians are legitimate fair game. Bo wonder half the deaths in Gaza are women and children.

But not a genocide. Nosiree.

It is true, that the main opposition was only slightly to the side of Netanyahu.

Regarding the "G-word", I understand that certain people who have cred in the field of the "G-word" have come out and said this is the "G-word". For me, the "G-word" has had a bit reactionary use by too many. And while I can respect those that have the cred in the label feel this way, I think it becomes a cluster once it is tossed in there. It can be debated.

I feel it is undebatable to consider the flattening of Gaza to be a crime against humanity. That is a big deal. Something doesn't have to reach the level of genocide to be a crime against humanity. The flattening of Gaza to make large portions of it uninhabitable, the attempted mass displacement out of Gaza are crimes against humanity with no doubts. That people are willing to handwave such a thing, a crime against a broad community for the crime of thousands is a sign that it isn't that hard to dehumanize an entire population of people.

I agree.
Our differences are about who decided to flatten Gaza. It was Gazans.
They decided to attack Israel. They used each other as human shields. They kept the war going.
I agree that the death and destruction in Gaza is a crime against humanity. One committed by Islamist Palestinian leadership.

Hamas decided to attack Israel with an expectation of reprisal. Israel decided on the severity of the reprisal.

Unless you can show that Hamas expected the intensity and duration of Israel's reprisal, your observation is a rather disingenuous description.

. Israel decided on the severity of the reprisal.
Gazans chose to attack. They also chose to use civilians for human shields.
The overwhelming majority of Gazan casualties are the direct result of Gazan policies. and Israel's attack.
Tom
Repetition your disingenuous analysis reinforces the conclusion of its unrelenting bigotry and nothing else.

It's easy to dehumanize people, isn't it?

40% of Gazans are children who never had a say in anything that adults did, and more than half of the rest are disempowered weaponless non-voters who have almost no say because the ones who have the weapons and power don't listen to them. But sure, let's just claim Netanyahu was forced to do the bidding of the Gazans because YHWH forbid we should hold people in power accountable for how that power is used.

“The Gazans” didn’t carry out the attack on Israel. There were about 2,3000,000 Gazans on Oct 6. Fewer than 4000 Hamas invaded Israel.
Nuff said? Or should every heinous crime be cause to level genocide against an entire population of which the perps were about .0017 percent?
Too bad native Americans lacked a capable benefactor like Bibi had, eh Tom?

I can think of a couple of times throughout history that implementing the concept of collective punishment would receive widespread condemnation from the Jewish community. It is never a good thing regardless of who is doing it, and who it's being done to.

I have often thought that Israel should politely asked Hamas and the UN what it allowed to do before they decided try to get the hostages back.
Would that have made you happier?

Not only did you miss the obvious point of my response (that the destruction of Gaza is not solely the responsibility of Hamas), you "thought" wrong about what my view on the Israel's response. Congratulations - that takes real effort and self-confidence to pretend such obtuseness.

Sorry, I live in the real world. I do like the fantasy one that you proposed, however. The one where Israel actually respects International Law and doesn't knowingly and willingly commit war crimes on a daily basis. That sounds like a nice world.

It really is baffling how you are against Putin committing atrocities in Ukraine, but unconditionally support Netanyahu doing the exact same thing. The mental gymnastics you must perform are truly astonishing.
