Now that the predicted blue wave seems to have materialized, I’m interested in y’all’s thoughts on J3.

If this had not been an historic ass-whooping, I think a violent insurrection attempt was in store. But IMO it would take more courage than the right has ever shown, to try to fly in the face of such a unified message as was sent last night. So I am at a loss as to what to expect.

Will Rethuglicans put away the ARs and play nice like good little boys and girls, or attempt more scurrilous subterfuge, knowing that this time consequences could be severe and fast, and pardons might be hard to come by?
If Trump was more than a greedy, stupid, senile old weenie, I’d expect him to try to get the military to install him as Leader for Life. But he’s not that guy.
I half expect him to put himself in exile, and live out his days in a palace on Russia’s Black Sea.
Thoughts?

I hear people say that Trump will leave the Presidency sometime soon. James Carville's been saying this. A Trumpie at the coffee shop said it this morning as we woke folk gloated over the midterms.
I don't think this is possible without an undeniable health crisis. It's just not Trump. He is so enraptured with his vision of Caesar-like greatness that he will never accept the role of quitter. It's much more likely that he'll spend two years shrieking about witch hunts, telling Congress it can't subpoena his staff, and telling us that he loves the veto just as much as he loves tariffs.
The most we can hope for -- and I hope for this hugely -- is that the corruption can be investigated, that Trump is humiliated over and over, and that some of his dumbest schemes (like that damn triumphal arch) can be buried in lawsuits. Also that more hecklers tell him to shove that ballroom up his fat ass.

I needed to double check, Trump resigning before serving two years doesn't give him another bite at the apple. Can only be elected twice. His resignation comes at the willing of the GOP.

Now, please keep in mind, Vance is worse than Trump. He has competence to go along with his lack of morality. So stupid narcissist or competent psychopath... neither are great options. Goodness, the idea that Trump is a firewall to something even worse... or at least worse in some ways. Trump is worse in others (see Hormuz).

As to OP, the margin of victories were huge, it'll be very very hard to do anything at this point. If the Senate was 51 to 49, there were options. If the House was tighter, fight certifications. But the Dems just won too convincingly. Actually so convincingly my non-CT mind is CT'ing how in the heck Trump won in 2024. Regardless, the next two years are a blank canvas and I don't think a single person can know what is going to occur.

Vance is worse that Trump except he has no base. With the Democrats in power, JD has 2 years until retirement. VPs who replace the President in office don't have a good history at winning the POTUS.

I know he is not the dementia-riddled, pathologically lying, narcissistic moronic conman that Trump is, but what exactly are some examples of this alleged “competence” you speak of?

Dude made money. He was successful in business. I was speaking to that, not politics. Dude has been in politics for what, 4 years? But he'd have a machine behind him to get the evil work done.

Why are you so hung up about thinking the way they think in Connecticut??

(I think I might know, but it has to do with that state being controlled by a cabal of lizard people, freemasons, and the illuminati).

A couple article titles:
Vance repudiates Iran war after US electoral defeat.
Trump says US will stop $4 billion in aid to Israel.

With such a shellacking, Vance has no problem speaking out publicly about this boneheaded Iran fiasco and Trump being Trump deflects blame on to Israel. He's pissed at Bunjamin but Bunjamin played him and Trump knows it.

Trump has lost his MAGA Mojo. He's got no juice with the GOP. Hell, MAGA might have to rebrand itself... again. I wouldn't be surprised if he just didn't show up for work. We'll all be wondering if he quit.

Gas prices drop already? He said they drop magically after the election.

I think it's more likely that Trump might die in office instead of leaving office. The one good thing about JD becoming president for the final year or two of Trump's term is that people would realize what a fucking asshole he is and he would have no chance of winning an election for president. What I wonder is who he would choose to be his VP if he had to finish out Trump's term. I would guess he'd choose someone that was worse than him, if that's possible.

Trump is obviously very mentally ill and suffering from early stage dementia, so pretty much anything could happen since these diseases make one's behavior unpredictable, unless he has some lucid moments or takes the IV drug for early stage dementia, which could stabilize him for a couple of years. I have no idea how narcissism is treated, so that's another problem.

Oddly enough gas prices here in Indy have dropped a lot over the last few days and oil prices are down. I think it's due to wishful thinking that a deal will be reached with Iran.

Now that the predicted blue wave seems to have materialized,
It would be a "yuge" mistake to misinterpret this election as a "big blue wave" and overreach on a fauxgressive agenda. It was really a red undertow - Trump and spineless GOP congresscritters were far more unpopular than the Dem candidates were popular.

It looks like the upstart Senator elects are already planning a metaphorical Night of Long Knives.

Progressive [sic] group calls for Senate Dems to replace Schumer as leader
Newly elected Senate Democrats in Michigan, Kansas, Illinois and Maine have all publicly stated they would not back Schumer as majority leader next term.
Michigan Sen.-elect Abdul El-Sayed (D) told Louisiana-based magazine Current Affairs in May that Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) was his “number one pick for majority leader.”

It is pretty obvious why Abdulrahman hates Schumer - he is a Jew who, unlike Blockwart Sanders - does not hate Israel. Note that CvH is also an opponent of Israel, so of course AES loves him.

I think Schumer should not have supported El Sayed when he won the primary. It is pretty clear any support by him would not be reciprocated by AES. Maybe Stevens or somebody should have ran as an independent instead to deny Abdulrahman the seat?

Also, the DSA and DSA-like Representatives elect may plan the same fate for Jeffries in the House. Many on the left fringes do not think he is too radical enough either.

If he wants relatively free reign in selecting a Veep, Trump would have to hurry up and resign (or die I guess, but that's unlikely) before 1/3. Because:
United States Constitution: Amendment XXV said:
Section 2. Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.

And yeah, the calls are coming out: Republicans call for Trump to change course after midterm drubbing
As the article goes, if Trump doesn't, the stink will hang on the GOP into the '28 election.
So pucker up buttercup. Iran? Settle it. Tariffs? That word shall never cross your lips again. And get the nutjobs out of your administration. Congress shall provide guidance on their replacements. Oh, and tell Carney you're sorry.

Article key words: huge disaster, lame, sucks, and the aforementioned shellacked.

Hey stupid Dems, don't let my morning news be filled with the word investigation for the next two years. We all know they go nowhere.

Vance would be the one picking, not the resigned Trump. Trump picks if Vance resigns.

Vance tweeted that the Iran war was the cause of the loss. Trump half-conceded this point and did not attack Vance. The question for this thread is not what caused the loss, but what does this mean about the future dynamic. Did Vance ask permission to go against the grain before his post, does he have Trump's blessing to start doing something differently? Maybe he will take the reins on some issues like Iran while Trump becomes Chief Executive Interior Decorator.

I'm afraid that they will investigate though, and by doing so, they will be giving it all back in 2028 because what happened Tuesday wasn't because of the Epstein files or any crimes committed by Trump....it was a vote against his policies that the losers backed without question. Trump won in 2024 for running against economic conditions in June 2022...forgetting that by November 2024, gas was pretty cheap and while prices were higher, inflation was below 3%. But they were promised gas under $2, they were promised grocery prices would drop - and fast. And they were promised no new wars. What they got was self inflicted inflation via the tariffs (and the GOP clapped and nodded) and they got a new war and gas prices that were very close to what they were in June 2022. Focusing on crimes or the age of a girl that Trump porked isn't going to address those problems.

Something the GOP might think about though, should the Democrats impeach - Republicans in the Senate should vote to convict and remove. Yes, it's a "win" for Democrats but for all this time it has been "orange man bad" and if you get rid of the orange man, it's not like Chuck Schumer will be installled as president. That will go to JD Vance - and as bad as he is, it will give him 2 years to distance himself from the stink of Trump.

This onion has layers.

First, the term is "lame duck", but we really have no idea what it means this time around. Trump defies political convention, so anyone would really be lying if they said they knew what was going to happen between now and January 3rd, forget after January 3rd. Anything from resignation to scorched Earth attempt seems on the table. What we know is the GOP suffered a 2010 level loss, and in some ways even worse, and it wasn't like 2016 where Trump broke the blue wall by small margins. South Carolina went down in the Senate by 5 pts! Ossoff won Georgia by nearly 20 pts, and these margins of victories went all the way down the ticket!

Buuuuuuut... the Heritage Foundation has been giggling like school children all the while they plundered DC during the first two years of Trump's awful term. SCOTUS is turning the clock back on government oversight on corporations and civil rights and there is little that can be done to stop that.

The Democrats won this battle bigly, but the war was already won by the GOP at least for the foreseeable future, and that can extend out if Alito and Thomas retire very soon.

Trump's influence on the GOP is to be determined. The minority madness of MAGA was quelled. Clearly, Vance, DeSantis are already coming out swinging against Trump. But they were all complicit in this. And the election result tells us this. The GOP might need to do some "soul searching", but this party hasn't had a platform for years, and has been devolving in to a hyper-partisan party since Gingrich.

The Democrat leadership is already talking down talks of impeachment. Talarico was out there saying they weren't elected for political vengeance, but to manage prices.

Yes, there will be investigations (there should be), but only into avenues that are fruitful. The Dems see a super-majority within reach in 2028, they are likely going to go the 2007-08 route to try and win it.

I can't believe my speculation has been confirmed. I wouldn't think this would be leaked that Vance actually did ask permission:

I think Vance started navigating early on the Iran war and has been asking for Trump's blessing.
