Ramos attacked by other journalists... for doing journalism

The relationship between the media and government in many aspects, including presidential candidates, is one of the filters of information Hermann and Chomsky wrote about in 'Manufacturing Consent'.

This really highlights the realities of that relationship.

Sorry, but he went too far here.

He already had enough--the story should have been that Trump refuses to answer the question about the implications of his plan. Getting confrontational beyond that is activism, not journalism.

I think it's time to admit that the Fourth Estate has collapsed.

Theoretically, their job is to ask tough questions of the powerful, so that the people can hold them to account. Now when one of them actually does so, they get attacked by other journalists.

If this is about the Trump presser, the job of a journalist is not to interrupt and insist to be the one asking questions when not called upon.

I am against the current immigration system and even against birthright citizenship (not many countries have it), but I have to admit that Ramos is a very good reporter.

Glenn Greenwald. LOL !!

Ramos is an activist more than a journalist. And very rude.

Yes, the job of a journalist is to be a docile servant to the needs of the politician during a press conference...only speaking when spoken to and certainly not to make the politician uncomfortable!

We need more journalists in this country who will wait their turn, then ask softball questions for which the politician already has a scripted answer.

Politicians are very important people, and we shouldn't be rude to them.

All journalists are and should be activists. The should fight for the cause of exposing important truths that forces of power in society seek to hide from the populace. Sadly, 99.9% of journalist act to promote the corporatist agenda as their corporate bosses require. That means feigning "objectivity" in order to avoid asking meaningful questions that would expose truths harmful to their corporate bosses interests.
Being "impolite" is a part of being a good journalist. Ramos' question was far more relevant to what voters need to know about Trump than whatever softball empty pap question was being asked by corporate activist Ramos interrupted (which btw, is rather common in press conferences).

That said, Ramos should have just asked his question, even it required interrupting others, and let Trump refuse to answer it. That would serve a journalistic purpose, whereas trying to hijack the event until Trump answered did not. Although, his antics got Trump to say "Go back to Univision", which all honest people knows was meant be a "Go back to Mexico" rally cry for Trump's Zenophobic, racist fanbase (aka, the GOP).

YOU would say that. Of course people of your original nationality have not been characterized as rapists, robbers, murderers, welfare cases and anchor babies. This Trump is creepy guy who sinks to the lowest level of political slander seeking the easily frightened and gullible to support him. He did not answer how he intends to deport 11+ million people.

Come on, Ford.... This was a campaign stop. Some sloppy organizing on the part of his campaign had failed to insure there WOULD BE NO REAL REPORTERS PRESENT. I bet some hands got slapped after this event ended.

Funny that when Neil Munro did the same thing to Obama, the Left labeled him all kinds of nasty things. But I guess Trump is no Chicago Jesus.

Wait a second. Are we criticizing a journalist for acting like Trump?

You know...Neil Munro! He's the guy who did that thing to Obama and then the Left labeled him all kinds of nasty things!

It was all over the news, remember?

What you are missing is that his confrontation added nothing to the story. He already had enough to make Trump look bad and he should have gone to press with that.

Here are Munro's thoughtful questions to Obama. He interrupted a speech at the White House to ask them.

Why'd you favor foreigners over Americans?

Why do you favor foreigners over American workers?

This is pure nonsense as opposed to the questions from Ramos that every journalist should be asking Trump.

It didn't hurt anybody but Trump and that is okay with me.;)

He wasn't trying to make Trump look bad.

He was pressing Trump for answers which Trump was not providing. He would have stopped if Trump had answered the very important questions.

The major problem with the press is that they do not press government officials for answers.

Well, he sure isn't no Jeff Gannon.

The point is the reporter isn't supposed to be making the news, simply reporting on what happened. This guy was making and there was no reason for it--Trump's actions had already given him the story.
