But what is the left wing these days? It seems to be more about racial, immigration, feminist and environmental activists/radicals than anything benefiting the working class.
Take Bernie's stance on the DAPL pipeline. He went with ecomentalists and Indians over working class Americans who need jobs (not just pipeline construction jobs but also more permanent Bakken extraction jobs and all the ancillary jobs that spring up around it). Government also gets more tax revenue when we produce more of our own oil. And working class people are much more affected by gas going to pre-shale revolution $3+/gal - on the other hand Susan Sarandon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Avengers cast and other glitterati who support #nodapl would barely notice the extra money it takes to fill up their SUVs and private jets.
Hillary wasn't radical enough for the Standing Rock protesters:
Standing Rock protesters sit out the election: 'I'm ashamed of them both'
On the other hand, Dems put too much stock in rallying non-whites and women to the point that they ignored white men almost completely. Dividing the electorate like that is bad for the country and it certainly proved bad for Dem election prospects last night.
Just look at this piece of premature gloating by Slate.
The Democratic Party’s Racial Reckoning
Note that in the very beginning the author calls those who opposed Sista Souljah's overt racism or those who do not think convicted murderers should be given weekend passes as "white bigots". Later, he clearly states that the Democratic Party does not need thevotes of white people (other than those she identifies as "racial liberals", presumably those who are in favor of racist policies like like affirmative action).
Trump did not so much win this election as Clinton lost it. She lost it because she and the people around her were out of touch.
Agreed.
