SUMS UP THE NEGATIVE “RANDIAN” INFLUENCE UPON DISCIPLES SUCH AS PENN AND TELLER IN A SINGLE MAGIC TRICK!

The modern man sees the importance of an eclipse merely in the fact that it happens. BUT WHAT DOES THE ECLIPSE MEAN? This is something science can never can answer, for it can answer only HOW but never WHY.

"This is something science can never can answer, for it can answer only HOW but never WHY".

That is true; but as this is also something non-science can never answer as well, it seems a bit pointless to speculate.

When a bunch of planets and satellites orbit a star, sometimes stuff will get between stuff and other stuff. There isn't any WHY. Just when, where and how.

Negative influence? From what I've seen of psychic ability testing, there is a consultation between both parties and the psychic agrees to the test as it is set up on the principle that he or she can indeed demonstrate their ability with the agreed upon conditions...which have to be rigorous in order to eliminate chance and trickery. Yet all have failed. Then comes the complaint, oh, dear, the vibes were negative.

The HOW of things is much, much more interesting than any imaginary WHY. Get your values straight.

What’s wrong with things just as they are, without some “spiritual” shit added in? Why do “spiritual” people think there has to be some secretive something behind nature’s phenomena before they can be seen as important? This duality where the hidden is meaningful but the visible is disappointing actually strips the wonder from nature. Theists ought to rethink this superstitious impulse, because they make nature seem mechanistic and existentially vapid by doing it. Ironically, that’s what atheists and/or scientists are often accused of doing to nature. Which is bullshit because it's the other way around.

It means that the sun and the moon are NOT rolling around on the inside of the same solid firmament described in the Bible, so we can ignore bronze-age cosmology.
Next?

It means that August 21 would be a great day to be captured by a superstitious tribe of ignorant cannibals (as long as they live in a thin strip of the continental United States, centered on the state of Kentucky*).

*And where better to seek a superstitious tribe of ignorant cannibals?

What's even more bizarre is that today I happened to be sitting in a car near the airport. A plane was landing and as it flew over it completely blocked out the sun for a second! :eeka:

Science can explain how but it will never be able to explain why. Woo!

Signs and portents. You've been blessed with meaningfulness by the force that made all this happen and you should feel special... smugly special... now. ;)

The natural world is full of portents. People really need to invest in some higher quality camping equipment.

Welcome. :)

Challenging bullshitters to be honest is "negativity" only to zealous conspiracy theorists who can't examine their own claims. Not too many of those around here.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN is the domain of Double Complete Rainbow Guy. I don't know where he hangs out but probably not here.

Hey man, people love their woo. Woo is effort-free, doesn't require intellectual curiosity and is very satisfying.

People project their experience of human society onto natural phenomena, they presuppose purpose and intention where there is none.
It's a sort of apophenia.

I think the eclipse means that the moon moves infront of the sun.

More anthropocentric bias on display ...
"In "FRONT"??? What makes you think that's the FRONT??? The moon gets between you and the sun and you call it in FRONT of the sun?
People are fucked up, I tellya.
