Trump just fired James Comey

An independent investigator would be ideal but he would have to be independent of the Democrats and the Republicans.

Yeah, and the Scientologists.. and (other) aliens. :D
I looked up the word "independent" and it confirms your thesis. It's brilliant.

But never fear - I don't really think there will be any investigation into Cheato's collusion, now that Cheato gets to appoint the people empowered to initiate an independent investigation. But your side still has work to do, WP. I predict that this house of cards will collapse in the very same manner that Nixon's did. Someone will get to someone - maybe one of the FBI agents who knows something. There will be another "Deep Throat" (so "fitting" for Trump!) and it will be over in a heartbeat. Of course that could be prevented if all of those agents were to meet untimely fates... WWUVD? (What Would Uncle Vlad Do)

But then there's 2018 ... how much is Russia willing to spend to buy the House for the Republicans? If they don't ante up, it could turn REALLY ugly around 2/1/2019.

Mr. Comey was addressing a group of F.B.I. employees in Los Angeles when a television in the background flashed the news that he had been fired.

In response, Mr. Comey laughed, saying he thought it was a fairly funny prank.

Then his staff started scurrying around in the background and told Mr. Comey that he should step into a nearby office.

Mr. Comey stopped addressing the group. He proceeded to shake hands with the employees he had been speaking to. Then he stepped into a side office, where he confirmed that he had been fired. At that point, he had not heard from the White House.

Shortly thereafter, a letter from Mr. Trump was delivered to the F.B.I.’s headquarters, just seven blocks from the White House.

What a shit show.

If someone in the FBI may know something then in that scenario they would need to reveal it. Maybe an FBI agent may know something, maybe they don't. (As in maybe = maybe not :) which I decided to slip in.
This has been going around in circles for a few months and Trump still hasn't given Vlad the long awaited Russian kiss. Maybe Vlad is the Deep Throat :)

Holy fuck! I've been pissed at him since he pulled that stunt against HRC, but this was worse than even he deserved. Fired via "breaking news" television. Wow. :(

An interesting statement by Richard Burr, Republican from North Carolina and chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee:
Richard Burr said:
I am troubled by the timing and reasoning of Jim Comey's termination. I have found Comey to be a public servant of the highest order, and his dismissal further confuses an already difficult investigation by our Committee.
Full statement at the link.

Coming from a Republican, this can be translated to "This reeks more than skunk shit."

Will more Republicans speak up?

Maybe Vlad is the Deep Throat :)

That's a distinct possibility. If Cheato lasts long enough to become any kind of liability for him, Vlad will dump those pisser tapes on him in a heartbeat.

I think it is worth remembering that Comey was acting AG when W. Bush's goons went to Ashcroft's hospital room to try and strong-arm him into extending the domestic spying program.

I never thought I'd look back fondly on the Ashcroft DOJ, but damned if Trump didn't make that happen.

I remember that well. I may be one of the few "liberals" who didn't want Comey's head after the election. He was in a lose, lose, or lose situation.

CNN has just put up an article with more more Republican reaction. More than a few are finally starting to distance themselves from an obviously mentally unstable fool.

ETA: Once again John McCain proves himself to be a man of integrity. Sure wish that he got the nomination in 2000.

Of course Trump made sure to indicate that was not the case in his letter.

Trump letter to Comey said:
"... you are hereby terminated and removed from office, effective immediately. While I greatly appreciate you informing me, on three separate occasions, that I am not under investigation, I nevertheless concur with the judgement of the Department of Justice that you are not able to effectively lead the bureau

Which basic means Comey told the Liar-in-Chief that he IS under investigation

Trump really is a class act. And I thought he got off on telling people to their face too.

Can you guys please get rid of him?

According to people that used to work for him, he has always been too much of a coward to directly fire anyone who actually worked for him. He always made other people do it.

The only place he ever "fired" anyone was on his fake tv show.

And he deliberately choose the worst possible option. It took the FBI less than 48 hours to determine there was nothing new in those emails. Comey could have waited. He didn't.

I don't know nearly enough to attribute motive. And I don't think that the last-minute announcement had the impact that people claim. People who were stupid enough to think that the announcement was anything significant were the ones who were already stupid enough to vote for Trump.
