It appears that my brain is broken, because I'm not sure what you're trying to say?

Someone wants to say that their invisible friend likes guns, hates gays, invented weed to separate the smart from the stupid, thinks pop music is a cry for help, etc., that's their lookout. I really couldn't care a whole lot less about their opinion. Just their behavior when they SAY that their nvisible friend wants them to ____ someone's ____ because it (is/isn't) IAW his plan....

But if they quote a religious document to say they learned that their invisible friend MEANT it when he said articles 1, 3, 4.14 and 16, but didn't mean 2, 4.1-4.13, 5 or 13, they're now working within a shared fandom. They don't have sole or superior copyright to the nvisible friend, or the guiding source document, nor its contents. So they have to defend this interpretation and why it departs from the movie version...

But they're not formulating as if it's their outlook. They're formulating it as if it's what God wants. If they say, this is what I believe because it's my opinion that it's right. That's one thing. But they're claiming it's their interpretation of God or various holy books, and that they got it right.

They're implying, "mine is the only valid interpretation. You are wrong". And then add "I won't judge". That's passive aggressive as hell.

If I boil this down to the core issue I have, it's that they don't think they need to argue for shit. If an atheist has an opinion, somebody might say, why do you have that opinion. Religious people constantly say "it's just what I believe". Erm... no. If they want to be taken seriously, they need to argue for stuff, just like everybody else. Or that's how it would be in an ideal world.

It doesn't quite 'bother' me, but it is thought provoking.

To covet his happiness, wouldn't it have to be a sort of happiness that I would actually want?
