Travel pictures.

In 2007 I had to go to Singapore for a second time. One month after the first trip.

The Singapore Central Fire Station. Apparently it was built in 1909 and now houses a Civil Defense Gallery. I'm no architecture expert but it looks to me to have a of British Colonial as well as Asian influence.

in 2008 I had to go to Singapore for my 3rd and last time. I didn't take a lot of photos. But the Singapore Airport is quite nice. I think that it's regarded as among the nicest airports in the world. And I ended up spending a lot of time here. My flight home was delayed by a typhoon what was hitting Hong Kong where I had to change planes. Neither flight was cancelled. Just delayed by 8 hours.

2010 was back to China. But not Beijing. Went to Zhuhai (across the bay from Hong Kong) for a conference and trade show.

I flew into Hong Kong and took the ferry across to Zhuhai. I understand that there is now a bridge connecting the two but then it was the ferry.

Here is a view from Hong Kong looking across at the Mainland.

If you like looking at loaded container ships, the Hong Kong/Zhuhai area is the place to find them.

The reception had a life band - of sorts.

Still 2010 in Zhuhai, China.

Outside the conference center is the required Chinese flag.

Leaving day finally. Back to the ferry across to Hong Kong airport.

Seats are pretty much exactly like an airplane inside the ferry.

One of the not-huge-ships in the bay. It's pulling something. I expect fishing nets.

Probably my last three posts for today. Having been to Japan at least once a year since 1992, I have a lot of photos. Nearly all pre-digital camera photos I haven't scanned yet. 2003 is when I got my first digital camera but it was in the 1990s that I did most of my sight seeing on weekends off.

I do have this scanned photo of me in front of a temple. I think that this was in the mid-1990s on a trip to Nagoya. I think that it was also the first and only time I ate raw horse meat.

A typical Tokyo street

Out my window. Tokyo is a huge city in all directions connecting to other cities making just a gigantic mega-city.

There are time when we go out to eat that our guys from the Tokyo office like to see whether I will eat something or not. Most Japanese food is incredibly good but I don't recall liking this one quite so much.

I believe that this is the Emperors Palace, or part of it. The palace grounds are surrounded by a moat and access is extremely limited.

Still Japan

Little parks like this area all over the city. Despite being so huge and populated, Tokyo is is quite a nice city and very livable.

2010 I did some sightseeing with a colleague who had not been to Tokyo anywhere as often as I had. Here is a temple in the center of a tourist trap.

Subway stations, or just outside, as where a lot of every-day shopping takes place. Besides millions of small places to eat, sweet shops are abundant. Here are some cute pastries along with Flat Stanley.

This photo was taken from the train from Tokyo to Nagano. Much of Japan is very mountainous and the ride west was full of twists and turns.

The required picture of MT Fuji. You get a good view of Fuji, on sunny days, from the bullet train going south from Tokyo.

Last Japan post.

My hotel room in Tokyo is always a bit small. But I like them. They are very convenient. They are so small that they actually have ventilation fans. Many rooms don't ventilate in the winter.

I like taking photos of wildlife and there are plenty of them in Tokyo if you know where to go.

Pre-digital camera I spent a week in South Korea, London, England, Munich, Germany, Hannover, Germany and other places. I may see if I can locate and scan some but not today.

I dug out some 40 old photo photo albums. I sure have a lot of scanning to do.

There are so many famous buildings. I had to pick and scan, at this time, what I think are nice or interesting.

London, England 1993.

The power plant that's depicted on the Pink Floyd album Animals.

Now, this was odd. My bathroom at the hotel. I know what the item on the right is for but I don't know what the item on the left is for.

St. Paul's Cathedral.
Scan_Pic0002.jpg

Munich, Germany, 1994. I've forgotten the name for it but this is essentially a church sized coo coo clock. On the hour the section in the middle would open up and mechanical things would twirl around and dance. If I recall correctly the steel level floor was a huge Lowenbrau pub.

A door. I think in my hotel. I found the word on the top right of the door to be "interesting"

I'm enjoying your pictures crazyfingers! Love the Pink Floyd power station.

It's called Battersea Power Station, and it's currently about half torn down for conversion into luxury apartments.

Allegedly the developer plans to keep the original aesthetic; But it seems highly unlikely that they can, judging by what I could see each time we went past.

Cairns?

Townsville?

Not sure - could be almost anywhere on the East coast. Hervey Bay looks a lot like that. So does Agnes Water.

Rockhampton - easy one :)

The last two are too easy - I know the Story behind that bridge :)

You got it, Bilby. The first two are Townsville....the ocean view being on the Strand taken from the Cafe overhanging the beach, overlooking Magnetic Island (a small part of the Island being visible in the corner). The quaint dance hall is in Rocky City Centre. Of course you know the Story of the Bridge.
