Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

It's hard to completely fault Trump for this considering the separation policy was put in place by the Democrats, not the Republicans.

So how much do you fault him for?

No idea. But, when illegals are arrested for being illegal, they have to put the kid somewhere. That's what the Democrats said and put in place.
What the fuck does that mean, you have no idea what your opinion is on children being separated from their parents. Who do you think I should ask if I want to know your opinion on the topic?

It's not illegal to apply for asylum at the border.
It is to do it fraudulently. "Asylum" is just a ploy to facilitate illegal migration, just like in Europe. You and other open-border types know that as well as anyone, but won't admit it.

In America, people are considered innocent until proven guilty.

If you can prove beyond a reasonable doubt that an asylum seeker lied on their application, then you can say they did something illegal. But if all they did was show up at the border and apply for entry, that's not a crime no matter how much it upsets some folks.

I agree that we have to modernize our immigration and work permit system, especially considering how easy it is these days for people to travel thousands of miles and cross multiple borders. But I don't see immigrants as a threat to our way of life or destined to be burdens on our society. They're just people like my grandfather, coming to America for a chance to improve their lives and that of their children. And we have plenty of room, especially where I live.

They are not in America. They are trying to get in. Any sane country would keep them out.

I do not think "beyond a reasonable doubt" is the standard used for asylum. In any case, constitution should not be a suicide pact. It should not make us vulnerable to hordes of mass migrants who are migrating for economic reasons but claim asylum because that gives them an advantage.

True. In particular, the asylum system as originally devised is completely unworkable once people start to misuse it for economic migration. Asylum is supposed to be for people persecuted in their home countries. And asylum seekers should apply in the first safe country, not shop for the country with best economic prospects.

But I don't see immigrants as a threat to our way of life or destined to be burdens on our society.
I think they are. It's all about the numbers. Certain level of migration is certainly positive, certainly when legal and the country can select from applicants. But what's going on here is very different. You have unlimited number of people showing up at the border, completely unvetted, completely unscreened. And they tend to come from third world countries with very different culture and they tend to be from the most uneducated segment of those counties. That is not beneficial to the US.

They're just people like my grandfather, coming to America for a chance to improve their lives and that of their children.
So you admit they are not real asylum seekers?
And they are not really like your grandfather. In his day travel was more difficult and US had a much smaller population.
US already has a very generous legal immigration system. We do not need the illegals. We do not need people who just show up at the border demanding to be let in.

And we have plenty of room, especially where I live.
These mass migrants are not going to Alaska. They are coming to places like Atlanta, where we certainly do not have room. Maybe we should round up all illegals (including bogus asylum seekers) and dump them in Alaska for you to deal with?

Racist fear mongering isn't a compelling argument to anyone other than fearful racists.

There's nothing suicidal about taking in hard workers smart enough to know they have a pretty good chance of improving their lot in life if they move to someplace with a better economy. Some people would call that a smart business move.

Asylum seekers should apply in the safest country they can reach, the one where they have the best chance of being granted asylum, or the one where they already have family who can assist them. They should make the choice that is best for them, not the one you would prefer they make.

But I don't see immigrants as a threat to our way of life or destined to be burdens on our society.

And just how do you think people get vetted if not by applying for entry?

It doesn't matter where they make their request so long as it's legal for them to make it there. Which means it doesn't matter if they request entry from their home countries or at the US border. There's a process, and they are following it.

They're just people like my grandfather, coming to America for a chance to improve their lives and that of their children.

We have Help Wanted signs all over town. Now that Trump has cut the H-1B visa program, all those folks from other countries wanting to work in the US can't get to the jobs that need them. So if you're willing to provide transportation, sure, send them up.

***ETA: this should probably go into the Immigrant Concentration Camps thread. Any follow up of mine will be posted there.

The Völkischer Beobachter made similar demands of Social Democratic members of the Reichstag, when tbey made similar claims about the Führer.

It turns out that those demands didn't imply that they were wrong.

There. Fixed it for you. There is no need to thank me, it's all part of the service.

I don't know if it is possible to help someone this deeply drenched in delusion.

What can I say? Bilby is an optimist.

It is just strange to me.

According to the left, Trump is a mastermind Fuhrer one minute, and a big stupid oblivious oaf the next minute.

Fox news fans think he's a mastermind. Most people think he's a big stupid oblivious oaf. Everyone realizes he wants to be Fuhrer, but only authoritarians, white supremacists, and Steve Bannon think that's a good idea.

What part of my post do you imagine to be 'delusion'? It's a simple statement of an historical fact.

I am not the left, and didn't mention Trump at all.

I just pointed out by analogy the fact that your post was nonsensical drivel that in no way supports your broader thesis - or indeed ANY position.

There's no conclusion to be drawn from your observation:

It's empty of any information that is not utterly banal.

Then I'm sure you'd open your doors and welcome and feed and clothe a few dozen of these asylum seekers into your home! :)

Another example of Derec pulling the ladder up behind him.
