I've decided to create a thread about her and her (mis)adventures, even though it might seem like "No, no es amor / Lo que tú sientes, se llama obsesión" (No, it's not love. What you feel is called obsession.). So far, she's been a sort of Señora Herrera goes to Washington (a literal translation of Ms. Smith).

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Gets Real About Self-Care, Burnout: 'It's NOT CUTE' | HuffPost She tweeted:
So I’ve decided to take others along with me on IG as I learn what self-care even means and why it’s important.

After noting her unseating of longtime Rep. Joe Crowley, he article continues
In her Instagram story, Ocasio-Cortez described how she used to “practice yoga 3-4x/week, eat nutritiously, read and write for leisure.” But once she entered politics and “everything kicked up, that all went out the window.”

“I went from doing yoga and making wild rice and salmon dinners to eating fast food for dinner and falling asleep in my jeans and makeup,” she wrote. “We live in a culture where that kind of lifestyle is subtly celebrated as ‘working hard,’ but I will be the first to tell you it’s NOT CUTE and makes your life harder on the other end.”

She continued: “I keep things raw and honest on here since I believe public servants do a disservice to our communities by pretending to be perfect. It makes things harder for others who aspire to run someday if they think they have to be superhuman before they even try.”

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Just Hung Her Office Plaque, And Things Are Getting Real | HuffPost She tweeted about it: “Transition time. It’s the little things that make it feel real. All for the Bronx and Queens.”

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Reveals Powerful Portrait Of A New Wave Of Congresswomen | HuffPost "Ayanna Pressley, Ilhan Omar, Deb Haaland, Veronica Escobar, Sharice Davids and Ocasio-Cortez all made history during the 2018 midterms."
All six women made history during the 2018 midterm elections. Once the women are sworn into Congress, Pressley will become Massachusetts’ first black congresswoman. Muslim congresswoman-elect Omar will be the first hijab-wearing member of the House. Haaland and Davids will be the first indigenous women in Congress, and Davids will also become the first openly LGBTQ person to represent Kansas in Congress.

Escobar and Rep.-elect Sylvia Garcia (D) are the first Hispanic women Texas has ever elected to federal office. Ocasio-Cortez, at age 29, became the youngest woman ever to be elected to Congress.
AOC's caption: “We’re in the building. Swearing in tomorrow.” Her followers loved it. Another member of this informal caucus, Rashida Tlaib, couldn't make it, it seems.

Here's Why Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Wore All White For Her Swearing-In | HuffPost -- "The youngest congresswoman ever followed in the footsteps of Hillary Clinton, Geraldine Ferraro and Shirley Chisholm."
In wearing white at important moments.
In 1908, the honorary treasurer of the militant suffragist group Women’s Social and Political Union, Emmeline Pethick-Lawrence, selected three colors to unify participants during a demonstration in London’s Hyde Park: white for purity, purple for dignity and green for hope, according to History.com.

'Leaked' Video Of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Proves She... Has Friends, Can Dance | HuffPost "The youngest congresswoman dared to participate in a viral “Breakfast Club” video while in college. Oh, the scandal!"

Why can't @AOC just be nOrMaL ... like Paul Ryan hanging out around at a kegger talking about his plans to gut the social safety net, or Brett Kavanaugh who... [checks calendar], or Ted Cruz, seen here saying that his goal in life is world domination, which is totally normal.

Now she's totally done for. Newly unearthed video reveals that when @AOC was in college, she was ... adorable. https://twitter.com/AnonymousQ1776/status/1080594276831047680

@netw3rk

oh no please don’t share this video of AOC seeming extremely fun. this is extremely damaging stuff that only the best oppo research would have uncovered. https://t.co/fXR8YiGz46
Neither AOC or any representative of her made any response to that video.
However, Ally Sheedy, who starred in the original “Breakfast Club,” did weigh in on the congresswoman’s performance.

“I LOVE THIS,” she tweeted Thursday night.

What might the right wing want? A video of her guzzling beer and staggering around drunk?

Did anyone ever make some video of Brett Kavanaugh doing that? That would be a sight to see.

It was just one guy's tweet, not some coordinated right wing attack. He ended up deleting his account, maybe sorry for bringing AOC so much good PR.

Let's hope she becomes as good at legislating as she is attractive and memeable.

Enjoy, https://mobile.twitter.com/aoc_dances

I'm cautiously optimistic but not hanging my hopes on her or any politician. She seems to be an actual democratic socialist and not just a Bernie-style social democrat (believe it or not, there's a substantial difference, even though it's basically the Judean People's Front versus the People's Front of Judea).

She enters DC as a Democrat Socialist in a heavily Latino district. Her influence, as both a Freshman and a Democratic Socialist will be very minimal. People seem to forget how hard it was to get the ACA through Congress (required some creative legislative efforts as well!), and that wasn't exactly the dream UHC bill.

Oh my goodness. A high school student dancing and singing? Who do you think this is going to offend, the pastor in Footloose?
and
"She'll never recover from the world seeing her dancing adorably and having fun with her friends."

"I want Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to give me dance lessons," Star Trek actor George Takei tweeted, while actor Russell Crowe declared her "fantastic".

One thing that impresses me is the way she seems to embrace, rather than shy away from, Republicans' kneejerk vilification of her. She seems to mock their fear of her, not so angrily but more bemusedly, as a parent might do with a recalcitrant child acting up in a harmless way in public. I'm all for letting her be the New Hillary for Fox Propaganda purposes - I think she'll be great at it. :D

This is cool...do you have a video of what Brett Kavanaugh was doing in high school?

Good question.

I don't agree with a lot of her political positions, but I loved her dancing video. What the fuck is wrong with dancing? Are these critics all conservative Baptists? It's like when the assholes posted a photo of Obama smoking what looked like a joint when he was in college. It only added to his image as the cool president.

I do love her energy, her enthusiasm and her optimism. She's young and inexperienced and she has a lot to learn, but the thing I like best about the Democratic party is its diversity of thought, and ideology, as well as the diversity of ethnicity, gender, religious beliefs, etc. It does make it harder to compromise, but that's the way it should be. Democrats are a better reflection of the country. The Republicans on the other hand, frequently remind me of sheep. I prefer cats to sheep.

My goodness, the BBC has seriously gone down hill.

It is only a matter of time before they release a bomb and leak a video of her singing while driving in a car! This garbage happened with Clinton (when running for office), then Obama (running for office... and in office... OMFG he had a coffee when he saluted back to someone in the military, steak sauce on a burger?!?!), and now some freshman House Representative (she danced in High School?!?!) who apparently is the heir apparent for whipping target of the right-wing once Pelosi retires.

I suppose the good news is that they are wasting resources digging up videos like this and they aren't finding anything of even the least bit of controversy. The bad news is, 30% of the nation have political IQs in the 60s and not only let something like this affect them, but get them in a frenzy of 'OMFG this woman is a danger to America because she danced'.

We are told about "Trump Derangement Syndrome" because we complain about Trump publicly felating Putin in a press conference or talking the stock market down over 10% in less than a month or his absurd comments/actions with North Korea/Kim Jong Un.

Republicans playing their "long game" ... gotta start vilifying NOW, or there could be trouble in 2028!

There are substantial differences. Democratic Socialists are full-on socialists, i.e. they want public ownership of means of production. DSA is rather a radical outfit. I do not think the JPF/PFJ comparison is apt.
