Trump VS COVID-19 Threat

Trump's response was better than most of the media gives him credit for.

Because of Trump's decisions prior to and during this pandemic, more Americans are projected to die than during the Vietnam War 9/11 and the War on Terror combined. I think the media has been spot on in saying this wartime President has done a shit job. I honestly can't think of anything he has done right.

And to add icing on the cake. The "China ban" you are touting as smart policy was a fucking train wreck that accomplished jack shit.

And Trump’s actions did little to stop the spread of the virus. The ban applied only to foreign nationals who had been in China during the previous 14 days, and included 11 categories of exceptions. Since the restrictions took effect, nearly 40,000 passengers have entered the United States from China, subjected to inconsistent screenings, The New York Times reported.

The New York Times you say. Why not call it for what it is! The mouthpiece of a left wing media like no other.

Here is another article showing how ineffective it was even in March. Not from the NYT. Also, the op-ed piece was written by Bush Jnr's former speechwriter, hardly a "mouthpiece for the left". But keep clutching at straws.

Facts are neither left wing nor right wing.
Do you have any factual evidence that the NYT report is misinformed?

The "mouthpiece of a left wing media" was responsible for pushing W's propaganda for justifying the invasion of Iraq.

Agreed. But some states, like Perth WA have very lax rules as compared to say NSW and Victoria where their state governments have closed all the beaches while ours are relying on peoples good will on a scorching hot 35-6C day and left all the beaches open. As of 8 am this morning, my friend who has an apartment right on the beach side overlooking Scarborough, one of Perth's most popular beaches, was amazed at the hundreds of surfers invading the beach. Social distancing? What social distancing?

This thread is about the Trump admin's response the the COVID-19 threat. Unless you believe that Australia's response is "just as bad!!11!!!", your bringing it up is a derail.

The numbers show it isn't "just as bad", or anywhere near.

Trump's response was better than most of the media gives him credit for. He shut down Chinese entry into America while they were whining about it being racist and xenophobe a full week after in fact the borders were shut.

Please note the date on this........................................https://www.voanews.com/science-hea...ump-us-has-shut-down-coronavirus-coming-china

Starting Sunday, U.S. citizens who have traveled to China in the last 14 days will be flown to one of eight U.S. airports for extra screening. U.S. citizens who have been in Hubei province, where the outbreak began, will undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine. Experts say the incubation period for the coronavirus is 14 days.

Most non-U.S. Citizens who have traveled to China within the last two weeks will not be allowed to enter the U.S., except for immediate family members of U.S. citizens, permanent residents and flight crews

Uh oh... science is left leaning. You better check with a moderate news source like Fox News.

Can someone science me up and tell me these two charts aren't problematic? The soft shutdown has worked... at stemming the growth. But it seems like people are forgetting what "flattening the curve" is all about as this seems to be "flattening the curve" which also means elongating the curve. VP Pence, President Trump, even Dr. Fauci are kind of talking about opening things up down the road, but from what I see in the charts below, there is no way in heck any populated county can open up. There is all this talk about masks, but the trouble with masks is the implied safety... and the increase in safety that masks create would likely be enveloped by the increased risk to transmission caused by large groups of people in the same area.

There is the other issue. We are now well past two weeks since soft shutdowns started, and the number of new cases isn't appearing to be dropping, in fact, it is still trending upward. Now, I suppose one potential positive sign is that the new daily cases being reported is a higher percentage of total new cases, relative to a month ago. This would then imply that there are fewer transmissions in whole.

TRUMP SUPPORTERS IN RURAL VIRGINIA SLAM HIS ‘FLAT-OUT LYING’ ABOUT THE DANGERS OF CORONAVIRUS

Several of the residents of this rural area spoke with Jeff Neumann of Insider, and what they had to say is very bad news for Trump as he seeks reelection in November:

“A few weeks ago I could ignore the parts of his personality I didn’t like,” Cliff, a 25-year Chesapeake Bay waterman, told me. “That’s over. I don’t believe anything he’s saying now.”

Matt, a third-generation oysterman was also blunt in his assessment of the president:

“He’s got no idea what the hell he’s doing, and I think he’s flat out lying to everyone about how bad it really is, and how bad it’s going to get.

“He thinks we’re all stupid and will show up for him no matter what. At this point, I can’t imagine bringing myself to do that.”

Recent polls show that many Trump voters have grown sour on the president, especially since his reaction to the death and destruction wrought by coronavirus sent the American economy reeling and left many wary of Trump’s rosy pronouncements at the daily Coronavirus Task Force press conferences.

Don't accept a wingers version without checking.

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/dr-fauci-was-correct-more-importantly-he-was-humble

In certain political circles, it has apparently become important to knock Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

One prominent article at RealClearPolitics argues that in January, Fauci told the public not to worry about the novel coronavirus and that “the administration’s initial reassurances were largely aligned with the assessments of the medical community,” specifically Fauci.

This is not true, and the contention rests on misrepresenting Fauci’s comments.

Nope, there's his own words. Nothing to worry about.

But, Trump should've known more than Fauci??

Do you even watch your own clips?

The host said "no need to worry, right?" and Fauci demurred: "well, obviously we need to take it seriously". This on the day a public health emergency was declared. And you want to equate that with Trump's oblivious indifference? Delusional.

I can't believe people are still responding to those nonsensical (or trolling) posts.

Trump says more than 2 million coronavirus tests have been done in the US, and claims mass testing not needed - CNNPolitics

What a fucking insane idiot. The useless cowards working with him who know better need to do something.

That article really doesn't do justice to the deranged idiocy of this lunatic. This is the full question and answer.

Q Yeah, Mr. President, how could the administration discuss the possibility of reopening the country when the administration does not have an adequate nationwide testing system for this virus? Don’t you need a nationwide testing system —

THE PRESIDENT: No.

Q — for the virus before you reopen the economy?

THE PRESIDENT: No. We have a great testing system. We have the best — right now, the best testing system in the world. But there are certain sections —

Q But people can’t get the test right now.

THE PRESIDENT: There are certain sections in the country that are in phenomenal shape already. Other sections are coming online; other sections are going down. And we, in addition to that, are giving out millions of tests. And every day, we’re doing it exponentially. We’re picking up. And what we’ll be doing in the very near future is going to certain areas of our country and do massive testing. It’s not necessary, but it would be a good thing to have.

Go ahead.

Q Don’t you have need, though, Mr. President, to make sure people are safe going back to work? You don’t want to send people back to the workplace —

THE PRESIDENT: We want to have it, and we’re going to see if we have it. Do you need it? No. Is it a nice thing to do? Yes. We’re talking about 325 million people. And that’s not going to happen, as you can imagine. And no — it would never happen with anyone else either. Other countries do it, but they do it in a limited form. We’ll probably be the leader of the pack.

This whole thing is getting fishy now. There's a new "#filmyourhospital" and many of the videos show the hospitals as being ghost towns, not "overrun with patients in chaos." Even the NYC hospitals show tons of ambulances parked and not doing anything. There's no warzone atmosphere at any of these hospitals where people film.

Some people even went to the testing sites and they have a tent up just for show with nothing underneath them.

CBS even put up a video of a hospital in Italy and said it was "a hospital in NYC" to fear monger. They were caught lying.

This is getting very strange now...

Seeing as you live in the world of youtube;

No conspiracy required. Just some fucking common sense.

Why should anyone listen to you about anything medical related again?

Yes, that's where I found all the comments of people saying that Beau doesn't know what he's talking about and he's an establishment shill. Have you read the comments? Tons calling him out.

He also doesn't understand that the media said the hospitals are OVERRUN LIKE WARZONES. Media never said they were ghost towns. THE PEOPLE found out they were ghost towns when they went to film the hospitals expecting to see chaos like warzones.

What I'm seeing from that hashtag is almost all the outside of hospitals, generally the emergency entrance. That says nothing about what they are like inside. The normal traffic volume will be way down because there are no visitors and no traffic associated with elective procedures.

There's barely been any deaths in the U.S. from the virus, and everything has to shut down? People were posting statistics about how there are far more deaths from cars, yet no one says "stop driving." There's more deaths from AIDS per year. There's more deaths via abortion per year, but 20,000 deaths due to this virus shuts us down? Just seems awfully fishy to us.
You got it backwards. There are 20,000 deaths so far with a shutdown. How many would there be without it? This is like saying that you don't need to wear a condom because you have had sex hundreds of times with a condom and not once did you get anyone pregnant.

https://public.flourish.studio/visualisation/1712761/

Covid-19 is now the #1 killer in the US. Note that it's killing at least 5x (remember, this link is giving the official figures which is definitely an undercount--we have something like 180 extra at-home deaths per day in New York alone) as much as all accidents, not merely traffic accidents.
