Never mind the dozen or so sources who are probably feeding information to the governor as to how to keep the infection rate down in the state. No. The governor is making this all up as he goes along and is now just getting even with those who would disobey him. Yeah, that’s it. Remember, your opinion of how the state should be run has to be the right one.
It chaps my ass to see such selfishness during a time when a modicum of patriotism is asked for.

Newsom is wrong about closing beaches, because people can practice safe distancing in outdoor spaces like that, but it doesn't make him a dictator.

They could, but they didn't. Hundreds of thousands flocking to the So Cal beaches, not practicing any safety protocols at all; last weekend was an open season killing spree for COVID transmission. Short of policing the beaches constantly and arresting the thousands of people who weren't following the rules (doing nothing to preserve a perception of having civil liberties) what is the state supposed to do exactly? Just let this keep happening every weekend til everyone is dead? I may not like seeing the parks close, but I understand exactly why it was necessary. Speaking as a Californian.

The purpose of the lockdown was to keep the infection rate down so that the healthcare services were not overwhelmed. The lockdown has achieved its purpose. So when does the lockdown get lifted ? When we have achieved immortality or something ? Are the young people to put their lives on hold until some very vague target has been achieved ? Is the lockdown to be extended another two weeks and then another two weeks and then another ...... and for what purpose ?

No. The governor is making this all up as he goes along and is now just getting even with those who would disobey him. Yeah, that’s it.

Clearly not everyone will die. But just staying home is not an answer.

I think specifically about the fall. If this thing is not under control with widespread rapid testing and contact tracing and if the schools open anyway, my kids will have to go to school or I'd risk the department of children and families coming to take them away for not sending them to school.

But my wife has a preexisting condition and will be 59 years old. So, do we risk her life and send the kids to school or do we risk being charged with failure to provide an education and have the state take them away?

No, he's absolutely right. This is a public health emergency, and it is YOU he doesn't want spreading this disease on the beaches and elsewhere. People like you need to be blocked from endangering the rest of the community unnecessarily. Lots of people can be trusted to voluntarily exercise common sense, but those who will endanger everyone because they refuse to believe medical experts need to be compelled. Despite your personal opinion on the matter, the governor's job is to listen to sound medical opinion and base public policy on their advice rather than on ideologically-based rants. He is also following the advice of experts at the federal level, not the covidiot trying to get reelected in November.

So when does this public health emergency and lockdown end ? Two weeks, four weeks, some other arbitrarily assigned point in time, when a vaccine is found that will protect us all, when immortality has been achieved, when ? You're another one that doesn't get it. The lockdown was introduced not to save everyone from catching the virus, it was to stop the health services from being overwhelmed. That has been achieved. The people most severely impact by this virus are the very elderly in care homes and nursing homes, people with underlying health problems etc, NOT families and young, fit people at the beach. If Newsom was genuinely concerned for the welfare of people he'd do something about the absolute slaughter going on at these places. In Long Beach alone it is estimated that 70% of the deaths from covid19 have occurred in care facilities. Yeah, but keeping the beaches closed is where it's at.

People like you need to be blocked from endangering the rest of the community unnecessarily.

Once again, seasonal flu is predictable and doesn't break the health care system. And you don't hear stories every day about someone dying of it. Celebs don't die of it in any noticeable numbers. People you know don't report family members dying of it very often. You don't see a lot of youtube channels and podcasts making special episodes about how they lost a crew member due to seasonal flu.
