New York Mayor Bill de Blasio defends police after video shows NYPD SUV driving into protesters

Mayor Bill De Blasio Addresses Video Of NYPD Cruiser Driving Into Protesters: ‘I’m Not Gonna Blame Officers Who Are Trying To Deal With An Absolutely Impossible Situation’ – CBS New York
“In a situation like that, it’s a very, very tense situation. And imagine what it would be like, you’re just trying to do your job and then you see hundreds of people converging upon you. I’m not gonna blame officers who are trying to deal with an absolutely impossible situation,” de Blasio said. “The folks who were converging on that police car did the wrong thing to begin with and they created an untenable situation. I wish the officers had found a different approach. But let’s begin at the beginning. The protesters in that video did the wrong thing to surround them, surround that police car, period.”

There comes a point where it changes from harassment to an actual threat. They even say the protesters were throwing "trash" at the vehicle--what else were they throwing?

Well personally, I think the officer should know what is being thrown is extremely dangerous to his health before enacting an action that could lead to a substantially dangerous riot! You know, so they know that it was worth it. An officer really needs to be able to say I had absolutely no other choice. Saying "well, I could have been in danger" at this moment doesn't carry any water. The US military in Iraq had much higher constraints on use of violence, and there were people definitely out there trying to kill them.

Ferguson police was criticized for their response to #BLMers protesting the justified shooting of Michael Brown, but while there was looting and destruction, it was localized to the West Florissant area and did not spread many miles further.
Ferguson police was criticized for tainting the shooting victim in the Michael Brown case and working hard to defend itself than to keep the peace. The dumbass police sheriff nearly started a race riot until he has booted away from cameras and the State Police took over... and even then, bumbling idiot white sheriff comes bounding back in and almost undoes the progress made before.

I remember seeing it when I was in the neighborhood watch, there are some white people that just want to put blacks 'in their place'. It is embarrassing!

Systemic "looking the other way" in that police department got this guy killed.

Videos, threats, but few signs protests have been stoked by 'outsider' extremist groups - "U.S. police officials said Sunday that they are examining both local and out-of-state actors focused on creating damage and inciting violent confrontations."
While some Democratic governors sought to blame far-right groups, Republicans in the federal government pinned unrest on far-left groups. U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr said violence at the riots was the work of “far-left extremist groups using antifa-like tactics.” President Donald Trump tweeted on Saturday that “It’s ANTIFA and the Radical Left. Don’t lay the blame on others!”

Trump on Sunday tweeted that he planned to designate antifa as a terrorist organization.

...
On the far right, members of the “Boogaloo” movement, a loosely knit online collective of firearm enthusiasts, were seen at protests in states including Minnesota and Texas, and in Philadelphia. In private Facebook groups and chat rooms, several of which have tens of thousands of members, members called for looting police precincts and burning down government buildings. But there was no indication any of those threats were carried out.

then
Wesley on Twitter: "Context: For years federal law enforcement has been hesitant to label/treat white supremacists groups as terrorist orgs -- it would infringe on rights of Americans if cops monitored them the way they do foreign terrorist groups, they've argued. Apparently that's fine for Antifa" / Twitter

This seems like the Weimar Republic, much softer on the Right than on the Left. The Bavarian Soviet Republic was ruthlessly suppressed, while the regime had a weak response to the Kapp Putsch, and later the Beer Hall Putsch.

Yeah, that was another bullshit criticism. It was right for them to correct the false narrative of Michael Brown as "gentle giant spreading the word of Jesus Christ" with actual footage of him robbing that convenience store.
Do you really think police should have buried that footage?

I remember seeing it when I was in the neighborhood watch, there are some white people that just want to put blacks 'in their place'. It is embarrassing!
It's not about putting blacks in their place but about going after rioters, looters and arsonists no matter their race. But some on here want lawbreakers only arrested when they are white (example: Elixir).

Systemic "looking the other way" in that police department got this guy killed.
What guy?

But some on here want lawbreakers only arrested when they are white (example: Elixir).
That is untrue. Elixir wrote "I'd be all for it if they rounded up this guy and those like him. -You know, the WHITE people who actually started doing that shit." where the "all for it" was rounding up all the looters and rioters and making them clean up and rebuild.

The protests are already losing the plot. Protests are turning into riots, and the criminal thugs who do the looting are becoming the new center of action.

Given that antifa members are already young, white, and of comfortable parental wealth, we are seeing accusation and counter-accusation of who is doing some of the violence: antifa or fa posing as antifa. Good job both sides on making it worse. We should be focusing on the police.

The governor of Minnesota is saying it is outside agitators coming into the state to make it worse, including drug cartels and even the Russians. Take your meds and you won't see that Russian agent hiding in your closet anymore.

The pallet of bricks outside the Dallas courthouse is suspicious. Protestors are saying "this is a setup". Smart protestors. Crude setup. Some protestors are keeping to the plot. Good for them.

One thing has been made clear the last few months, and even the last few days. The police are not doing anything effective. They're too busy throwing tear gas at the protestors to do anything about the rioters, and there is the ever-present suspicion that the rioters may indeed be police under cover as agent provocateurs. Activists are accusing umbrella man of being a cop, the cops are denying it. After months of the police letting criminals out of jail to make room for quarantine violators, and now busy not defending stores, they have just lost the gun control debate. After all, aren't we supposed to just call the police and sit back and wait?

As a funny aside, the attack on CNN has been the first time in years anyone paid that much attention to CNN.

Agreed. That would be like blaming Trump for losing your car keys.

After months of the police letting criminals out of jail to make room for quarantine violators...

Oh good. Frankly I was pretty uncomfortable agreeing with you. Take your meds, and you won't see big bad government purposely releasing convicted criminals just so they have room for quarantine violators.

.@CBP is deploying officers and agents to cities nationwide in response to recent violent protests.

Sources close to the operation tell me they are responding to demonstrations today in Miami-Dade and Broward. @MiamiHerald

(text in an image file)
"U.S. Customs and Border Protection is currently deploying officers, agents and aviation assets across the country at the request of our federal, state and local partners confronting the lawless actions of rioters. CBP carries out its mission nationwide, not just at the border, consistent with federal laws and policies."

It's unclear whether officers would be checking people's immigration status.

CBP agents, according to federal law, don’t need a warrant to “within a reasonable distance from any external boundary of the United States."

The law defines a “reasonable distance” as 100 air miles from the coastal border — which covers the entire state of Florida.

CBP: “While most Border Patrol work is conducted in the immediate border area, agents have broad law enforcement authority and are not limited to a specific geography within the US. They have the authority to question individuals, make arrests, and take and consider evidence.”

When CBP encounters someone without proof of legal status — such as a green card or visa paperwork, as required by federal law — the person is immediately detained and temporarily held in CBP custody before being transferred to ICE and Enforcement Removal Operations.
I had seen something about a CBP drone earlier, but it seems that CBP people are on the ground there also.

Customs and Border Protection Is Flying a Predator Drone Over Minneapolis - VICE - "The surveillance drone is flying in a circle above the city, which has broken out in protests over the police killing of George Floyd."
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is flying a Predator drone, military technology used for surveilling and killing terrorists abroad, over Minneapolis as protesters continue to demonstrate against police brutality, according to publicly available flight data. The drone flown over Minneapolis is an unarmed version of the aircraft.

The drone was first spotted on a flight tracking tool by members of the ADS-B Exchange, a community of flight watchers who use open-source flight data to monitor America's skies. Presumably, the drone is surveilling protests there, though CBP did not respond to a request for comment about what the drone is doing there.

About the CBP drones -- seems like they are mainly for surveillance.

Was just at the @IlhanMN press conference in front of the Midtown Global Market. A few highlights:

.@IlhanMN on who is causing destruction: "When we say these are people that are outside we mean these are not the people who have, time and time again, asked for reforms, time and time again, came out to protest, time and time again, asked for justice.... This is not our people."

.@IlhanMN said that organizers have mechanism in place to protect the neighborhood, and would not cause harm to immigration owned small businesses they worked hard to support. "We all know that we have collectively fought for business development to take place on Lake Street."

.@IlhanMN: "When we say outsiders, I don't care if people understand it to mean people from outside Minneapolis or not. What we mean is that those are not our people, those are not the people that are grieving in the ways that we are grieving...

.. "Those are not the people that are interested in helping to get justice for George Floyd."

As she spoke, smoke was still rising from a burned out building across the parking lot.

And here is a community-police service center on that same block of Chicago Ave. The "don't burn" graffiti proved not to be effective.

The Black Detour on Instagram: “Tulsa race massacre - May 31 - June 1,1921 ...” -  Tulsa race massacre - a pogrom against the most successful Black community of the day: "Black Wall Street".
The massacre began over Memorial Day weekend after 19-year-old Dick Rowland, a black shoeshiner, was accused of assaulting Sarah Page, the 17-year-old white elevator operator of the nearby Drexel Building. He was taken into custody. A subsequent gathering of angry local whites outside the courthouse where Rowland was being held, and the spread of rumors he had been lynched, alarmed the local black population, some of whom arrived at the courthouse armed. Shots were fired and twelve people were killed: ten white and two black.[18] As news of these deaths spread throughout the city, mob violence exploded.[2] White rioters rampaged through the black neighborhood that night and morning killing men and burning and looting stores and homes, and only around noon the next day Oklahoma National Guard troops managed to get control of the situation by declaring martial law. About 10,000 black people were left homeless, and property damage amounted to more than $1.5 million in real estate and $750,000 in personal property (equivalent to $32.25 million in 2019).

Many survivors left Tulsa. Black and white residents who stayed in the city were silent for decades about the terror, violence, and losses of this event. The massacre was largely omitted from local, state, and national histories.

‘It’s unacceptable’: Richmond Police Chief gets emotional while talking about fire set to home with child inside

Chief Smith says last night protesters set fire to a few buildings, including a multi-family residence that was occupied by a child in the 300 block of West Broad Street.

As fire crews were arriving, Smith says protesters blocked the engine from reaching the fire.

“When you take a legitimate issue and hijack it for unknown reasons, that is unacceptable to me, it’s unacceptable to the Richmond Police Department, unacceptable to the city of Richmond,” said Smith.

For justice!

Video shows woman attacked outside Rochester business

(WHAM) - Disturbing video recorded by a person in Rochester shows a group of people attacking a woman outside a business amid widespread looting and rioting in downtown Rochester Saturday evening.

In the video, a woman pleads with the people smashing the exterior of Rochester Fire Equipment Company on Marshall Street to stop. The woman yelled at the group of people, who were apparently trying to loot the jewelry store next door.

Several of the people then turn on the woman and begin attacking her, hitting and kicking her, and then used boards to hit her.

The woman's husband runs in toward the end of the recording and tries to break up the attack while swinging a golf club. He was then attacked himself.

It's for George!
