Trump Tests Positive For Covid-19

Doctors worry Trump could be 'overtreated' for coronavirus because he's a VIP
  • President Donald Trump’s doctors are using almost every drug in the Covid-19 arsenal to treat him and some doctors worry that they might be going overboard.
  • Trump’s team of doctors at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center said the president has taken Gilead’s antiviral drug remdesivir, Regeneron’s antibody cocktail and the steroid dexamethasone.
  • The president could very well be the only Covid-19 patient to receive all three treatments, Dr. Leana Wen, former Baltimore City Health Commissioner, said.

White House tracking of Trump’s COVID outbreak sidelines the CDC
The White House rejected on Monday an offer from the nation’s public health experts to lead the effort to track down and notify Americans who were exposed to a growing coronavirus outbreak linked to President Donald Trump and several top aides.

...
In interviews and internal CDC communications reviewed by USA TODAY, current and former agency officials accused the White House of seeking to avoid learning the scope of the outbreaks. Without an independent investigation, they said, countless others may be exposed and never know it.
So being sick with the virus hasn't changed Trump. :p

Most Americans say Trump acted irresponsibly and distrust White House on his health - CNNPolitics

Like Soviet officialdom on the health of Yuri Andropov.

Donald J. Trump on Twitter: "It is reported that the Media is upset because I got into a secure vehicle to say thank you to the many fans and supporters who were standing outside of the hospital for many hours, and even days, to pay their respect to their President. If I didn’t do it, Media would say RUDE!!!" / Twitter
Referring to that trip outside the hospital.

Donald J. Trump on Twitter: "I will be leaving the great Walter Reed Medical Center today at 6:30 P.M. Feeling really good! Don’t be afraid of Covid. Don’t let it dominate your life. We have developed, under the Trump Administration, some really great drugs & knowledge. I feel better than I did 20 years ago!" / Twitter
Belligerent bragging.

Donald J. Trump on Twitter: "“You see it in enthusiasm for the President outside Walter Reed Hospital. You see it in Registrations, from Florida to Pennsylvania & West Virginia, where Republicans are outstripping Democrats by 2 to 1. This is a bit hard to watch. He is struggling to breath, trying not to cough. Of course, he should have his fucking mask on.

Although... he’s a fat old man who just climbed a tall flight of stairs. It’s possible he’s always out of breath after that.

Perhaps, but he's definitely not the same. He looks like someone who's under the influence and trying his best to act straight sober.

True, he really did try to play the part of strong & hale. And he si not a good actor.

Trump returns to White House downplaying virus that hospitalized him at Walter Reed - The Washington Post
More than a dozen White House officials have tested positive for the coronavirus in recent days, a steadily increasing total that grew again Monday to include press secretary Kayleigh McEnany. How the return of an infected president to such a setting could be managed safely was one of several questions left unanswered Monday as Trump’s medical team briefed reporters about his condition.

Even from his hospital rooms, Trump tries to convince public he’s in charge - The Washington Post
He wore a suit and tie for his flight to the hospital. He posed for photos signing blank pieces of paper. He recorded videos declaring himself recovering. He inspired aides to describe him as hard at work. And the infectious patient briefly left the hospital for a drive to wave at supporters.

Throughout his four-day hospitalization with the novel coronavirus, during which time he was administered a cocktail of steroids and therapeutic drugs, President Trump strove to convince the public that he was fully in charge — not only of the country he leads, but also of his own body and care — even if it was not the case.

...
It was Trump’s decision to return to the White House, where doctors plan to continue his treatments, and it was supported by Conley and others on the medical team, according to a senior administration official who, like some others interviewed for this story, spoke on the condition of anonymity to candidly discuss the president’s health.

...
Trump’s quest to come across as commanding even while suffering from a deadly illness that is especially dangerous for men of his age and with his comorbidities is in keeping with one of his great phobias in life: appearing weak.

...
Some of Trump’s advisers expressed concern about the president’s decision to leave Walter Reed, said someone familiar with the discussions. The worry was twofold, as they both feared for Trump’s health and worried that if the president needs to return to the hospital in coming days, the ensuing news cycle would be a public relations disaster.

...
Trump also has spent time discussing with advisers what kind of dramatic imagery would make him appear presidential and in charge, a White House official said.

This part surprises me. I can see not actually playing the games because it could mess the game up for others (however, in my limited experience with the hard stuff it didn't seem to mess with me), but not even being in the room makes no sense.
I was a security risk. Not so much that i couldn't reliably play my part in the script, but i might forgetfully walk out of the room with classified in my pocket.

I didn't think of that aspect of it.

Things are reasonably peaceful, not having a finger on the nuclear button for a bit isn't going to be a problem.
No. An interruption in continuity is a grave problem.
We never skip a day or two of someone being THE nuclear command authority becase no one has the authority to decide we can skip a day or two.
It does sound like a decision this administration would try yo make, but there's an Air Force general whose job it would be to never leave the prez or vice prez alone until someone is designated as the authority.
Thus would be like taking a nap while driving becsuse the road's straight and the car's going straight. You can't do that.

Or, as you say, maybe the decision was made a while ago. Maybe Esper has two scuffed briefcases in his office at all times, mum's the word.

But if our enemies don't know there's nobody with their finger on the button they aren't going to take advantage of it to launch in peacetime. If tensions escalate I'm sure they would figure out something. As it stands, though, we are probably safer with nobody on the button than him on the button. I realize nobody has the authority to decide that but when faced with no good choices I can see not giving him the real codes being the lesser evil.

Doctors on MSNBC noted that it is a mistake to think of this as having Trump go "home" since his home consists of very advanced quality care as well. It is more analogous to being transferred to another hospital. Doctors are reluctant to criticize other doctors and how they are caring for individual patients (when the ones doing the commentary do not have the same on-hand data), but in general they would not advise a patient to leave as such. Mitigating factors are that he was administered several of his medications relatively early and he will receive 24/7 care back at the White House.

That's what I figure, also--they've equipped the WH at the level of a hospital room, perhaps even an ICU room. It probably won't have the negative pressure it should for an infectious disease patient, though.

Debatable. I'd agree with less insane.
