Eastern Oregon and Washington States Seceding?

Most people leave states like California, New Jersey, New York etc. because the cost of living in those states is unaffordable unless you're wealthy. My sister loves NJ and the only reason she plans on leaving is because once she retires, there is no way that she and her husband can afford to stay there unless they want to live there and continue a comfortable middle class lifestyle.

The same goes for Georgia. When I worked in Atlanta, many of my coworkers were from the northeast. Even my small city has a lot of transfers from more expensive parts of the country. I left Jersey when I was 21, due to my ex being drafted during the VN war. We lived in Texas for five years. I loved it there, but San Antonio has always been a very diverse, fairly liberal city and I loved all of that. The only way to turn states like Texas bluer is for more people to invade. :D

Exactly. People live in high income areas and then retire to low cost areas.

Why not also add Atlantis and Fantasy Island as the 52nd and 53rd state while shifting state borders...

The fractious portion of the Northwest has been talking about seceding via some schema or another for my entire life. They always fail, because most people who live there want no such thing, and definitely don't care to be represented in government by those who do. Or to put it even more bluntly, the people with money have no interest in such a thing.

And the imminent doom of California in punishment for its marginally humanitarian policies, as well, continues to be falsely predicted year in and year out. Pundits don't really understand the American West, I don't think.

It's basically an attempt to gerrymander in a different way.
