Looting and Rioting in Minneapolis After Fatal Police Shooting

Newsweek said:
Looting and rioting broke out in Minneapolis on Thursday night after police fatally shot a man wanted on a gun possession charge.
[...]
On Thursday afternoon, members of a U.S. Marshals task force attempted to arrest a man who was wanted on a warrant for gun possession, according to a statement by a Hennepin County Sheriff's Department spokesperson sent to Reuters.
The spokesperson said that the suspect, "who was in a parked car, failed to comply and produced a handgun resulting in task force members firing upon the subject."
[...]
Footage shared by independent journalist Rebecca Brannon later in the day showed footage of a fire burning in the middle of the street, as she claimed that it had been raging for 40 minutes without any police presence. The protest grew as the night progressed, with demonstrators setting fire to a dumpster and footage on social media showing officers deploying tear gas at the large crowd of people gathered at the intersection. Following the police intervention, looting and rioting broke out at the intersection, as footage shared to social media by Brannon showed the window of a nearby CVS shattered, as she claimed that protesters looted the store. Footage also showed that a T-Mobile store was broken into, while officers arrested protesters at the intersection as they surrounded the demonstrators.

#BLM doesn't care whether a perp is armed or whether a shooting is justified. ALL they care about is the skin color.

So who is this Winston Boogie Smith?
Wanted felon Winston Boogie Smith fired at cops before he was killed

NY Post said:
The man who was fatally shot by Minneapolis cops Thursday had demanded “war” after George Floyd’s death, was wanted on a felony-arms rap — and appeared to have fired his weapon as authorities tried to arrest him, according to court records, online posts and officials.
Winston Boogie Smith, 32, was gunned down in the Midwest city around 2 p.m. when he “produced a handgun” and fired it from inside his vehicle as members of a US Marshals task force tried to take him into custody on the state warrant, officials said.
[...]
Smith had made threatening posts after the police murder of Floyd — including some against cops.
[...]
Smith was wanted in neighboring Ramsey County for failing to appear for a sentencing hearing May 19 after he pleaded guilty to felony firearm possession, court records show.
The dad of two was convicted of felony aggravated robbery in 2017 and on probation and unable to possess a firearm, records show. If he had been nabbed with a firearm by cops Thursday, he could have sent back to prison.

Probation for aggravated robbery? Those Minnesota judges seem to be very soft on violent crime!

We should be happy that the people of Minneapolis are getting what they voted for.

I hear you Derec.

One question. Why aren't you speaking up on Republicans still demanding reinstallation now that they've developed the balls to say Trump F**ked up right after they successfully blocked January 6 Capital enquiry?

Wrong thread. Why are you leftists constitutionally incapable of admitting left-wing violence is wrong?

January 6th, as bad as it was, was one day. This #BLM shit has been going on for 8 years now. In city after city. They burn, they loot, they destroy wantonly. And they kill people, including an 8 year old girl during a #BLM occupation of University and Pryor in Atlanta last year. But it's all good because being a leftist extremist means your violence is "righteous".

January 6 was one day of violence. It wasn't the only day of violence perpetrated by white people/white supremacists seeking to hold on to power.

Sure. There were some people who did something 100 years ago I hear.
But that doesn't mean all the #BLM/Antifa violence is ok. Why is it that you leftists always engage in whataboutism when leftist violence is mentioned.

What do you think about Winston "Boogie" Smith, his criminal record, his threats of violence against police and the Minneapolis rioting that broke out in his honor? Because this thread is about that, and not how much you on the Left dislike white people.

You cry as though BLM is such a scourge; after 8 years of enduring it America should be just a smouldering crater.

And yet BLM protests typically cause less collateral damage and casualties than law enforcement. Huh.

Tell that to the people whose businesses were ransacked, looted or even burned down by #BLM. Tell that to the families of people who died during #BLM violence, including the people shot in one of the several "autonomous zones" occupied by #BLM terrorists. Tell that to the parents of Secoriea Turner, 8.

No one here has sad it was good. That is your straw man. Riots are wrong even when they are understandable. Even when the rioting is not done only by #BLMers.

But your penchant for blaming #BLM for everything is truly revealing. More revealing than your minimization of the Jan. 6 riot by those who share your stated views about minorities and leftists.

Sure. I assume you're going to do the same for the families of those who were beaten into a confession, killed by cops who's incidents reports had no link to reality or the other well documented incidents of tax funded law enforcement corruption that created the BLM movement in the first fucking place. I suspect I'll be done before you you.

The best way to eliminate BLM is to hold Police properly accountable. And yet you still fail to fathom that.

Why do you believe the police are telling the truth?

I think we all agree that rioting, looting, and (outside of things like a demolition derby or the teardown of old structures) destroying property is bad no matter who, why, or when it's being done. The only thing left of that horse is its mane and pulverized bones Derec.

I do not think we actually do. Sure, you and I may do so. But others on here not so much. Otherwise there would not be so much whataboutism (i.e. "what about January 6th?") whenever #BLM/Antifa rioting is brought up.
Also, Gun Nut thinks vandalism is part of "peaceful protesting".

Why do you believe the police are telling the truth?

Given St. Winston's criminal record, recorded statements calling for armed violence against police, and the fact that he was sought on a gun warrant, I see no reason to disbelieve them. Do you?

Malfeasance by police officers and other law enforcement officers should of course be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. But that has nothing to do with #BLM.

The first #BLM riot was in Ferguson 2014 - actually two riots, one in August when the shooting happened and one in November when the cop wasn't indicted.
There were a lot of lies about that case - "gentle giant", "hands up" and in the end it turned out that Michael Brown robbed a store minutes before Wilson confronted him and his friend and that Brown attacked the police officer, prompting him to shoot.
Many of the subsequent #BLM riots involved cases where shootings were justified.

Note that even in cases where a shooting is not justified, rioting, looting and arson are not a legitimate response.

The best way to eliminate BLM is to hold Police properly accountable. And yet you still fail to fathom that.
And you fail to fathom that it will not work. #BLMers riot even when a shooting is justified. And even when police are held accountable.
In the case of George Floyd, rioting continued long after the police officers were arrested and indicted. And even after the conviction, #BLMers are still occupying a city block which they have blockaded with concrete barriers.
Appeasing #BLM does not work. What works is arresting and prosecuting rioters, arsonists, looters and those who illegally occupy territory and erect barricades. Minneapolis should try enforcing public order for a change!

But your penchant for blaming #BLM for everything is truly revealing.
I do not blame #BLMers for everything. I blame them for #BLM riots.

More revealing than your minimization of the Jan. 6 riot by those who share your stated views about minorities and leftists.

I am not minimizing it, but I am also not exaggerating its importance.
It it is not the only riot that matters, and there is no need to bring it up whenever we talk about left wing riots.

Almost two weeks since the shooting, and the #BLMer insurrectionists still have barricades erected in uptown.

What is Mayor Frey doing? These barricades need to be cleared and those blockading the city need to be arrested and prosecuted. This is not a peaceful protest.

And it is directly harming the city. In the 60s and 70s millions of people left major US cities because of widespread unrests and rising violent crime. It took decades for cities to recover. And now the cities are making the same mistake trying to appease the extremists whose only desire is to destroy in the name of some violent thug or other. Today it's Winston Smith, guilty of aggravated robbery among a laundry list of other convictions.

All this will result in people and businesses leaving cities like Minneapolis and the cities becoming worse places to live. And that's a shame.

This twit is right about one thing: this is big! But he sees it as something positive, when it is really disastrous.
The weak leadership of Mayor Frey who continues to allow left-wing insurrectionists to occupy territory is harming the people of Minneapolis, as well as businesses and of course, the tax base.

By the way, blockading streets like this is dangerous. Just yesterday a woman was killed by a driver (no word about motive if any) when she used her vehicle as a barricade on one of those streets.

Frey needs to do his job and enforce public order!

Malfeasance by police officers and other law enforcement officers should of course be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. But that has nothing to do with #BLM.

It's statements like this that allow intimate moments between one's face and one's palm.

Oh they know it's bad. The disagreement is not whether it's bad the disagreement is in the cause and remedy. For instance, some think that if Police do a better job and build trust by holding themselves accountable when they fuck up BLM wouldn't be a thing. You (and sometimes I) come along whenever BLM protests for the "wrong people" and rightfully see the destruction and theft going on say "the police need to do something!". We are correct that the police need to do something however (and this is my view) it will get worse if the police continue to fuck up and not hold themselves accountable. Remember when someone took a knee and people complained? Nothing was done, now people are burning and stealing stuff and you and I are here complaining about that. What do you think would be next if law enforcement continues to do half their job? For example, they go into that occupied zone with force, kill a few people and say "we feared for our lives" sprinkled crack on them then took a paid vacation. Do you think it will just be more looting and rioting we complain about?

The police definitely need to get in there and regain order however they also need to get the community's trust back. Right now the community trusts and supports the "wrong people" more than the police and to me that is entirely the police's fault.
