How should west respond to potential (likely) Russian invasion of Ukraine?

Taiwan is to China what Ukraine is to Russia. China threatens Taiwan with invasion if they declare independence form China. Chia periodcaly fires missile near Taiwan. Politically China can not condemn Russia.

There is plenty of hypocrisy in the west, that is the norm.

Putin vs the west shows what the Cold War was about. The western principle of freedom of speech, action, democratic processes, and self determination. The other side, Russian and Chinese communism, was bent on world domination and e destruction of western democracy.

Whatever moarl failures there are in the west, it all comes down to a black and white difference in political ideology. If you see no difference between Putin and the west than I assume you would be ok with Russia dominating the world.

Consedering Putin's rhetoric against NATO and his demand that former Soviet states leave NATO, I would be concerned with Poland. I would think NATO should mobilize and protect the Polish border.

This is what NATO was built for, Russian deterrence. It is make or break time for the west.
Barbos would be totally ok with that. Just like Putin’s good little boy.

Despite wanting to remain neutral, a month and a half ago, Swedish government firm on not joining Nato despite Russian aggression - "Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson has pushed back against Russia's demand that Nato rule out future eastward expansion, underlining her country's right to set its own alliances"
On December 17th, Russia published a draft treaty with the US which included a list of security demands, including that the US should “undertake to prevent further eastward expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization”

Tweet by Jussi Halla-aho quoted by Jayjay and translated by Google Translate:

Русский народ, русские солдаты, политики, чиновники!
Остановите преступника, которые позорит вас и вашу страну перед человечецтвом.
История осудит не только его. Она осудит и вас.

Russkiy narod, russkiye soldaty, politiki, chinovniki!
Ostanovite prestupnika, kotoryye pozorit vas i vashu stranu pered chelovechetstvom.
Istoriya osudit ne tol'ko yego. Ona osudit i vas.

Russian people, Russian soldiers, politicians, officials!
Stop the criminal who dishonors you and your country before humanity.
History will not only condemn him. She will judge you too.

Barbos would be totally ok with that. Just like Putin’s good little boy.
Do you mean Taiwan?
No, I won't be OK with it. But legally speaking Big China have a point.
On the other hand, Taiwan has a right to a de-facto self-determination.
Basically too much time has passed since the split and it is too late for getting it back.

Taiwan is an established nation now.

When Canada has said you fucked up, you fucked up.

PM Trudeau said:
Canada condemns in the strongest possible terms Russia’s egregious attack on Ukraine. These unprovoked actions are a clear further violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. They are also in violation of Russia’s obligations under international law and the Charter of the United Nations.

Canada calls on Russia to immediately cease all hostile and provocative actions against Ukraine and withdraw all military and proxy forces from the country. Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity must be respected and the Ukrainian people must be free to determine their own future.

Oh, the Canada, Argentina of ukrainian war criminals.

Russia isn't invading Poland. Russia has been working to polarize Poland for years now. Russia simply can't afford to invade all the nations around it. So they need to turn them against NATO through promoting dissent. We've seen this in many nations in Eastern Europe.

The funniest and most damning thing is Putin citing Neo-Nazis in Ukraine, when he has been formenting support for Neo-Nazis and anti-Semitism across Eastern Europe.

What are you smoking which cause you to type this nonsense?
Seriously?
What does it even mean? polarize Poland? Polarize about what?
Poland is 100% ani-russian and there is no chance in hell to even have a dream about changing it. Poles hate Russia so much, I can't even!.

Maybe you meant I don't know, Czech Republic? Then I would understand.

That might be the most damning thing, but the funniest thing is Russian shills’ inability to see how promoting Neo Nazis serves Pootey’s agenda. As Sam Elliot might say, “that takes a special kind of stoopid”.

kak skazat "troll" po russkii?
It's basically borrowed from English internet slang: Тролль (troll'). In Ukrainian, they spell it with just one "l": Троль. The Russian slang for the professional online trolls employed by the Russia's  Internet Research Agency in St Petersburg is "Trolls from Olgino".

As difficult as it is to take barbos's non-stop online gaslighting, we should all try to avoid personal attacks. I think that barbos is angry and trying to provoke responses from people, but I find it more useful to simply post and document the truth to counteract the gaslighting. Barbos does not represent Russian opinion, just his own. I find it more informative to simply monitor RT and other Russian sources--both pro-government and anti-government--to get a better picture of what Russians believe.

Well, let's hope sanctions hit hard. Hard enough to get the Russian people pissed at this asshole. I see the ruble is at an all time low. Hopefully it tanks after Biden speaks. Russians need to call for Putin's head.

barbos isn't stupid. It just shows how compartmentalization works. We've seen otherwise intelligent people in the US fall all-in for one of the largest cons in American political history. Partisanship changes how many people focus on something. We see it in politics and sports, sadly, it is getting people killed soon in Ukraine. And if/when Ukraine defends itself, Russians as well (actual ones, not the "genocide victims" that don't exist).

Debatable.

So far Russian people are not impressed.
Russian people don't decide who is in charge. Haven't since... well... ever.

That'd be in large part the Oligarchs. It is their money that is at risk... unless Russia is heavily invested in Bitcoin, which I wouldn't be surprised at.
