How should west respond to potential (likely) Russian invasion of Ukraine?

More encouraging than the 10+ thousand dead Russians, is the estimated 30,000 more Russians who are MIA, defected, ran away etc.
Hopefully some of them are alive, well and no longer under Pootey's thumb.

That's insane. NATO has no impact on trade. It's a military alliance. At best, it could impact sales of military equipment (the US was pissed at Turkey for buying Russia S-400 missile systems) but doesn't prevent it.

EU membership or a trade deal giving similar advantages, on the other hand, would have long term consequences to Russia: it would just close the door on Ukraine being part of Russia-led Eurasian customs union. Not ideal for Russian imperial ambitions, but it wouldn't be an existential threat either. Nobody in Russia would starve to death because of it. After all, Russia already has many EU (and NATO) members on its borders and they are trading with Russia just fine.

Democracy threatened Russia’s corrupt dictator. Tough shit.
Russia had ports on its north (Murmansk), West (Kaliningrad), East (Vladivostok), and South (illegally seized Crimea).
Now they’re fucked. The Russian dictator is going to cost them their European customers, and probably their Southern ports.

Excuse me but until NATO threatened to support Ukraine and upset the balance of the economy. There was no war. Now thousands have died because the Ukraine decided it wants to hold all of Europe hostage. I do not blame Russia for protecting the world from this EU NATO threat to the Entire European peaceful existence.

In other words, the war exists because Ukraine refused to be a puppet for Moscow. Hint: Independent nations aren't puppets!
