Male patients asked if they are pregnant at NHS Trust

By "going down the same rabbit hole, again and again" I wasn't referring to the OP specifically.
You're side stepping the bigger point here; did you ask the rabbit's gender before you went down its hole?
An effort on the part of you and the rest of IIDB to out raunch me would be more entertainingly educational than any other outcome I can think of, off the top of my head.
Tom

A better approach would be to just add to the form statements, "please inform if you are pregnant [or may become pregnant]*, as this may [whatever]" and that's the end of it.

Honestly, I don't see how an all purpose check list of questions prior to certain medical procedures is worth discussing.

Tom
Abstracting from the issue of whether the report is accurate, clearly the lack of all relevant information on a chart is causing an unnecessary question to be asked of some clients. Not only is this a massive waste of time, but it is simply another symptom of the strange and slow death of Great Britain. And, of course, madness.

You'd have a better chance of understanding all of this if you didn't have too many other more important things on your mind.
Ah yes. Only the things laughing dog care about are important enough to discuss.
Oh I care about this, just not as much as some people. But thank you so much for bringing this important issue to everyone's attention.

BTW, please stop telling people what they think or feel, because you are terrible at it.

The rabbit probably refused to say. Or perhaps said "gender wizard". Granted not with Tom. Never with Tom. I love you Tom, but stay away from the rabbit's holes.

Wow... I need to sit down. This is perhaps the biggest news I've read about in my life. I mean, I keep getting asked about drug usage, alcohol usage, and what not at my physical and I don't do any of that stuff. If they asked this additional question when I needed health care service, I'd just lose it... and post a thread about it.
Ah yes. Only the news Jimmy Higgins cares about is important enough to post about.
Well, I just can't handle the madness of it all. It is just too much. Questionnaires being merged... my goodness, I barely managed to type that without blacking out.

Can you please keep your penis out the conversation. This is supposed to be a family site... for heathens.

Here, Jimmy. You might need this.

You didn't even read the article.

The kicker is: I had my tubes tied after my youngest was born. Then, I had a hysterectomy some years later due to cancer. All of this is in my chart. And I've been using the same medical providers for years..
I saw a one-legged comedian talk about a call from his provider. Who knows he lost his leg from about the hip.
Who noted that at his last physical, he was significantly underweight for his height and they were concerned...

Yes, lesbians can get pregnant. Requires some concious effort, and they would know.
People who do not use any sperm when they employ the sex can be fairly confident they know the answer to that question the first time it's asked. The cross-examination is superfluous, and belies certain assumptions. Thst some people might take offense at. Big whoop.

I, uh, "use" sperm during sex and I haven't been asked if it's a possibility I'm pregnant.

It's almost as if females can get pregnant and males can't.

Some females can get pregnant. I no longer can, by choice (although a good friend was conceived after his mother’s tubal), because of a medical condition and at this point, because of my age.

Some men can get pregnant.

Also lesbians can get pregnant against their will. Rapists really don’t care about their victim’s sexual orientation.

Why did you feel the need to bring the spectre of rape into this discussion?

It's not even a matter of polity that they may need to be asked, but rather the fact that it just is not apparent from looking at them in a hospital gown.

This. My wife was asked for a pregnancy test when she was 70. The nurse had her file in her hand at the time--just went on looks rather than actually looking at the information.

Likewise, I have received a radiology report that labeled me as female, despite an incidental note about my prostate. (This had to have been from my name, the person never actually saw me.) I've also had a clerk refuse to hand over my online pickup because she (the person who placed the order) wasn't present--despite the fact the clerk had my ID in her hand at the time. (No, it's not a female name! Lauren is female, Loren is a basically extinct male name.)

This. Yesterday I marked a form as I'm not pregnant. So what? Why should they bother with a line saying it only applies to females?

Just because society changes to the point where you have a hard time adjusting doesn't mean society has a duty to stop changing. More, you have a duty to to work harder on adjusting.

Exactly. If you're not dating them it's irrelevant. That's why I marked the gender field "Yes". Yes, I have a gender. I know people will often get it wrong, I don't care and rarely bother to correct them.

Frankly, i find it hard to be upset if an bureaacracy solved one single instance of confusion by just making a blanket policy to ask everyone the same questions. "Are you pregannt, do you suffer erectile dysfunction, when was your last period, are you circumsized?" Over and done with, maximum equality, no greater significance than the usual 'swatting flies with cannonballs' approach of many institutions.

Are you circumcised?? I can't remember ever encountering that on a medical form.

True. They must ask the same question of lesbians!
"Are you pregnant?"
"No."
"Are you sure?"
"Pretty sure."
"When was your last period?"
"I don't know." (as one lesbian said, I'm not using it, why should i track it?)
"Are you sexually active?"
"Yes."
"Do you use birth control?"
"Not really. Not like you're thinking."
"Then you MIGHT be pregnant.."
"No, I'm gonna stick with 'No.' Pretty sure i'm not preggars."

....The horror!

The one like this I like is "Last I knew that required a man".

All females* should be asked if they are pregnant or might be pregnant.

Females can get pregnant, including lesbians. In fact, lots of lesbians have their own biological children.

*In agreement with the trust, females who are or look under 60.

While a lesbian certainly could be pregnant it would only be by rape or deliberate intent. Thus a lesbian who is sure they aren't pregnant isn't pregnant.

Trust me when I say,
Human sexuality and sexual behavior isn't nearly that well defined.

Don't make me go into details. Because I will.

Some pregnancies are the result of rape. Some have opined that the pregnancy question does not need to be asked of lesbians. Of course it does. Some lesbians also engage in willing sex with males and some lesbians are victims of rape.

I know that this is not an issue that most men must think about often but women are conditioned from a very early age to be cognizant of the fact that they can be raped. In fact, sometimes, certain posters have been known to remind female posters that they could be raped.
