Yemen's Houthi rebels hijack cargo ship in Red Sea

I was telling you for years that we should be helping KSA more in their fight against Houthis in Yemen. Instead, most on this forum as well as politicians of both parties chose to condemn KSA for the war, even though it was started by Iran through their proxies (Houthis), just because it was en vogue to hate on MbS over that Muslim Brotherhood propagandist.

Now Houthis and Iran are entrenched on the Arabian Peninsula and are launching aerial attacks on Israel and have now turned to piracy. Well done!

Yup, this is all our fault, for not taking you seriously the umpteenth time you cried "wolf" about some dreadful and nefarious plan by a bunch of Muslims.

:rolleyesa:

Yes, because engaging in yet another proxy war for a non-ally is always in USA’s best interest. And the old “ enemy of my enemy” policy is such a guide. Just ask Netanyahu.

Finally, more war is always what the world and especially that region needs.

Who is "you"? And what were "they" supposed to do about this, exactly?

Maybe you should not have been helping KSA at all, so that Houthis would not target you in retaliation.

Your inability to realize that Iran is a wolf doesn't make it go away.

Iran has chosen the path of war. We can either fight now or fight later when it will be even worse.

Your wish for peace in our time will work about as well as it did in 1938.

Don't see you lining up to march to Tehran.

Iran is supporting proxies, which is not the same as Germany waging a war on Europe. The UN exists to try to keep the military skirmishes from getting out of hand. It isn't a Utopian delusion. It is trying to hold things back enough that we don't do WWII again. Acting like we have to fight a full blown war with Iran, which would cost us tens of thousands of lives, minimum, would likely draw into a massive military operation with Russia and China siding with Iran.

You want to kill millions to save the lives of dozens... and you whine about gun control being bad math?

Well thank fucking god that there is no nuance to what is happening in Yemen.

We keep trying to instigate war with Iran, and they have yet to truly take the bait, even with this latest provocation. Pirating their ships and oil platforms, shooting down civilian planes, assassinating their leadership. For more than forty years we have been at this, yet they have continued to largely keep their calm aside from a bit of sabre-rattling and some funding of anti-American groups abroad, a damnable tactic but one that we ourselves freely engage in. If they are "wolves", they are more like real wolves (practical and community minded albeit situationally violent) than the supposedly ravening beasts of European mythos and idiom.

What is the "we" business? Iran is not attacking us. Iran, via its proxies, is attacking Israel. Iran, via its proxies, is trying to influence their neighbors.

BTW, it was thinking like yours that put ayatollahs in place in Iran.

I am not wishing for peace in the Middle East. Unlike you, I realize that the US is not capable of helping that region achieve realize true peace Our meddling "help" - like Europe's - has caused nothing but longer run violence and misery.

Unlike you, I don't see our national interests served by engaging in yet another neo-con adventure which will simply make matters worse while putting US lives in direct danger for no good reasons.

In my view, this is a problem that Israel can choose to deal with but itself. They have the means to do so.

I'm not calling for a war with Iran. I'm calling for recognizing that what we are seeing is a not-exactly-cold war between Iran and the west. It's impossible to make peace with Iran's puppets because puppets can't make peace.

Iran has chosen the path of war.
Iran has been fighting against the USA and our violence since the 70s, at least. It's self defense.
Tom
Self defense against what? If they leave the world alone the world will leave them alone.

Self defense against the USA!

Those people in the Teheran embassy in '78 weren't innocent civilians. They were military operatives doing whatever they had to protecting USA interests, meaning puppet Pahlavi.
When we enlisted Saddam Hussein to invade Iran, we funded and armed an invasion that killed about a million people.
We've stolen their money. We've launched sanctions.

We've been attacking Iran for decades!
It's obvious why. They've got petroleum reserves we'll kill for. Have been doing since the early 70s, to be charitable about it.

There's a bunch of very good reasons for the Iranians to consider us The Great Satan. And defend themselves against us by whatever means necessary. We're a nuclear tipped superpower bully. What else do you expect them to do?
Tom

I'm all for people diversifing the means to increase their GDP. Not quite what I had in mind though.

The US and EU took on the Somali priates a few years ago. Will we se something similar here?

Stop provoking Iran and things will get better.
The same with Russia and China.
