Generally it is about cost and reward of risk. However, in this case, it isn't even arguably about that.
While going for 2 pts is effectively coin-flipping the outcome of the game... which in itself is a risk, the risk of not doing so also carries the possibility of not touching the ball on offense again. Going for two isn't as much a risk as you, in this moment, have the best opportunity to win the game. Guaranteed. Arguably, it is higher risk not to go for two. Not going for two makes it much easier to ensure OT, but ensuring OT isn't ensuring possession and without possession, winning is much much harder.
As noted, going for 2 pts here is the only viable option to try and win the game. Giving Mahomes the ball in OT is a very bad idea.
Meanwhile, Patriots win streak ended at season high of 1. There were more penalties in the game than there were plays without penalties. Okay, that might not be true, but there were a lot of penalties. Maye ran the ball a lot, which was great until he kept taking hits after getting a first down. He might have run in for a TD, but I can't remember if it was called back in a penalty. Game was relatively close, hence OT and all, but it was clearly a meeting between two mediocre teams.
Looks like the Lions have one of the best records in the NFL. WOW! Never thought I'd live to see that. Might live to see the Saints and the Lions win a Super Bowl.
