Israel held its first election since the October massacre (which ironically helped Netanyahu resolidify power). The outcome was much like the last several Israeli elections, in that no one really won. Not Israel is entering the coalition haggling portion of things. Netanyahu's party appeared to win the plurality of seats, but far from enough, and a notable drop from where they stood before the election. Netanyahu likely has the best path forward to forming a weak coalition, but in all honesty, it looks like they'll be needing another election shortly, where Israel can do it all over again. The Knesset is just too divided.

Armed conflicts tend to solidify power behind the current leader. Why do you think Trump is being so aggressive now?

Why do you think Trump is being so aggressive now?
If you think anyone is rallying behind Trump to Defeat The Enemy, you’re badly mistaken. Outside of the felon’s elected yes-men, nobody is doing that.
I think most Israelis are going to reject any similarly manufactured attempt to manufacture unity.

Do I think it is working? No. It’s backfiring. But yes, it was a motivation.

Right. Trump is stupid. In fact he’s FUCKING STOOPID. The rejection he is experiencing - or failing to experience right now, was easily anticipated. But in the heated desperation of the Epstein-driven moment, he HAD to do something as dramatic as possible, to distract from his rapes and pedophilia. So he attacked the usual suspect. Fucking idiot.

I understand from Israel's Channel 12 News that Bibi ordered the IDF to launch another attack on Iran in the days immediately before the election, and that the Chief of Staff, Eyal Zamir refused on the grounds that it was politically motivated. Evigdor Leibermann, he leader of the Yisrael Beiteinu Party (who held six seats in the Knesset before the election, and are a right-wing former coalition partner to Likud) has appealed to the Attorney General to bring charges of treason as a result, though this is unlikely to happen.

They might have, had he correctly designated Russia as the enemy. Nobody's backing him to beat Ukraine, and we can all see that Iran was a minor threat until he stupidly whacked that hornet's nest.

Yes, occasionally someone stands up to such ....tactics. We need more of that.

Trump is not being particularly aggressive right now. Sure, there is a lot of rhetoric, but even more TACOing.

The election results reflect badly on Israel. Netanyahu should have been defeated handily, but there are so many pro-fascists in Israel that instead get this close result that will probably result in him retaining power.
I wonder how much influence the Hamas attack had on the result?

Somewhat tangential but...

I'm astonished how ignorant Americans are about Israeli politics.

More people viewed Netanyahu negatively than positively, by a margin of 29% to 22%. Yet nearly half of Americans said either that they had no opinion of Netanyahu (20%) or that their view of him was neither positive nor negative (28%).

If there was a question on the West Bank, this story does not report it.

The only reason Gaza is a pile of rubble is that Gaza started a war of aggression against Israel.
"They started it", is never a good enough excuse to commit genocide. And as it has been pointed out ad fucking nauseum only 8% of the adult population in Gaza has ever voted for Hamas. Israelis might call that democracy - I don't.
