The GOP are already launching campaign ads against my Representative with online ads. It is 18 damned months from the election... and I they have ads on already.

And in good ole GOP fashion, it is 75% bullshit sprinkled with a little truth. The elderly woman (who isn't that elderly) says she needs Medicare to survive and our Rep voted against funding it. Is the GOP just trying to make us jump out windows?

Sounds like the same ad they are running here for McDonald Rivet.

The GOP will be very well funded by corporations and oligarchs because of tax cuts and massive deregulation. The election landscape will be encroached upon by ad hoc executive orders and loss of representatives in urban areas. The propaganda campaign will be more massive than we've seen before because Trump has changed the institutions structurally to serve his will. There is only one conclusion: the GOP will actually win a majority in 2026, even though political division will be very extreme.

Nancy Mace will presumably be running for re-election in 2026. I wonder if the MAGAts would be happy to learn how she and her staff spend their time.

Nancy spends hours per day programming bots to operate spewing lies on Xwitter, Facebook etc. Her staff -- whose real job is to help constituents -- spend their time with fake accounts on Xwitter, Reddit etc. up-voting and sharing the bullshit spewed by Nancy's bots. (This allegation is from a deposition with a sworn ex-staffer testifying under penalty of perjury.)

Or maybe the MAGAts will be even happier to vote for her if they learn that she's such a devotee of Republican "conservative" values. (Studying issues would be a waste of her time of course; like all good MAGAts she'll vote as instructed by the MAGAT-in-Chief.)

Many Americans are hoping that sanity will prevail in upcoming elections, and that the Fascisto-QOPAnon movement will have its power reduced.

I'm afraid this is overly optimistic. Even if enough voters come to their senses -- and polls suggest this is unlikely -- citizens likely to vote Blue are in danger of being denied the right to vote.

North Carolina is a swing state where Democrats are likely to win fair elections. In fact 8 out of the last 9 Gubernatorial elections have been won by Democrats! The GOP succeeds in that state's elections for Congress and Legislature due to gerrymandering and other cheating. And the story of the latest GOP malfeasance in North Carolina is heart-breaking.

In that state the Governor appoints the members of the State Board of Elections. This is very important of course: Essentially every Republican today is a criminal and if they control the Board of Elections they will find ways to rig elections for Fascist victory. So what did the lame-duck legislature do? They canceled the Governor's power to appoint the Board of Elections and gave this power to the State Auditor, who happens to be a Republican.

This is illegal on several grounds; the fraud was challenged; the case moved through the courts, with judges mostly ruling along party lines. Even if the fraudulent Board is eventually dismissed, they've already done great harm by packing local boards with pro-fascist criminals.

This is just one state, but similar frauds are occurring throughout the USA, at both state and local levels. Some pundits believe Kamala Harris would have won last November if not for the hundreds of thousands of citizens whose voting rights were undermined.

As good a time as any to start this thread.

First from Occupy Democrats:
BREAKING: Fox News panics as a "shocking poll" reveals that Democratic superstar Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett is now leading in the race to take incumbent MAGA Texas Senator John Cornyn's seat.

Republicans are absolutely terrified of this woman...

According to a survey from the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), Crockett has 35% support among Democratic voters for a potential Senate run. Congressman Colin Allred has 20% and former Congressman Beto O'Rourke and Congressman Joaquin Castro each have 13%. 18% of those surveyed remain undecided.

During a segment on Fox News, host Harris Faulkner discussed the poll and launched a pathetic smear attack on Crockett, accusing her of making the Texas flash floods "all about her." In truth, we should be making these floods all about Donald Trump because he slashed funding for the National Weather Service.

Proving once again that there is no bottom for right-wing media, Faulkner also attacked Crockett for "talking about her hairstyle." Of course, the reason that these conservative hacks resort to such petty invective is that they have no legitimate criticisms to level at Crockett. She is an outspoken advocate for her constituents and a devoted public servant. She has Republicans sweating bullets.

Crockett herself addressed the polling in an Instagram video yesterday—

"There have been a lot of questions about what's gonna happen in the Senate race in Texas," she said. "There have been two different polls that have come out that have somehow thrown my name into them. And one of them was released today that the Republicans put into the field, the Republican Senate Committee, allegedly."

"And allegedly it has me as topping the field for the Senate," she went on. "Listen, I have been so busy in the House. Because that's where I am, that's been my focus. You know, depending on how many people reach out will determine if there's something to actually consider."

"But as of now, I am proudly serving Texas's 30th Congressional district," Crockett added.

The Texas Democratic Senate primary is on March 3, 2026.

Senator Cornyn has been an absolute disaster for the people of Texas from his support of Trump's fascist ICE crackdowns to his cowardly vote for the Big Beautiful Bill — a historically destructive piece of legislation that slashes $1 trillion from Medicaid. Texas deserves so much better.

Occupy Democrats? Really?
And why no link?

Crockett represents a D+25 district. Last time around, Republicans did not even bother to field a challenger.
I do not think she would get nowhere near enough support in a statewide Texas election to win the senate seat. Which means that Dems would be extremely foolish to nominate her.

I like her a lot. Some Democrats should be terrified of her too.
She has a mean streak and is ratchet AF. For example, she called Gov. Abbott, who uses a wheelchair, "Governor Hot Wheels".
You called Kamala Harris "Heels up".
Afaik Derec isn’t a public figure in his spare time, but who knows? If he is, the public version probably doesn’t wear misogyny on their sleeve. Few public figures, other than Trump, can get away with that.
Anyhow, goobernor Hotwheels is a dickweed. 😝

You're not seriously surprised that Derec has hypocritical objections to this black woman being popular and powerful, surely??

That he made not one, but two of the first four posts on the thread, to tell us all how black unsuitable and female unelectable she is?

Is this your first day?

Occupy Democrats? Really?
Yeah, not this:
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Occupy Democrats is an American left-wing[8] media outlet built around a Facebook page and corresponding website. Established in 2012, it publishes hyperpartisan content,[15] clickbait,[21] and false information.[23] In 2017, posts originating from the Occupy Democrats Facebook page were among the most widely shared political content on Facebook.[24]
Have we just stopped trying?

She has a mean streak and is ratchet AF. For example, she called Gov. Abbott, who uses a wheelchair, "Governor Hot Wheels".

I looked up “rachet AF” and one of the meanings the internet gave was “ghetto, trashy”. Another meaning was “confident, powerful”. I wonder which one Derec meant.

Calling Gov. Abbott “Governor Hot Wheels” is very Trumpish. Yet I don’t recall any criticism of Trump from Derec on name calling.

I think getting excited about poll numbers now for an election in over a year is a waste of energy. While I think Gov. Abbott is a nasty piece of work for many reasons, he appears to the support of the bulk of Texas voters on Election day.

You called Kamala Harris "Heels up".
I am not a congressman, or any other kind of elected official. Are you really comparing what people write on a discussion forum with what an elected official says at a public event?
Note also that "heels up" is pretty mild compared to other language used on this forum. I also use such language pretty rarely, evidenced by your need to bring up a comment from years ago over and over again.
Afaik Derec isn’t a public figure in his spare time, but who knows?
I am not.
If he is, the public version probably doesn’t wear misogyny on their sleeve.
There was nothing "misogynistic" about that comment. It would be as pertinent if genders of Kamala Harris and Slick Willie Brown were reversed. But let's not rehash that tired old topic yet again. The topic of the thread is the 2026 Midterms.

My objections was to her behavior, as well as to the fact that as somebody elected from a D+25 district, she is not likely to be competitive in a statewide race in Texas.
You and your ilk are the ones who are overly concerned about her race and gender. Not I.
That he made not one, but two of the first four posts on the thread, to tell us all how black unsuitable and female unelectable she is?
I responded to two separate people. What's wrong with that?
And again, you are the one making it about race and gender. Not I.

The original meaning of the slang, of course. The other meaning is specifically meant to be reclaiming of "ratchet" as something positive by those who are ratchet, like Crockett herself.
Calling Gov. Abbott “Governor Hot Wheels” is very Trumpish.
It is. So why does your Ilk defend her so much then?
Yet I don’t recall any criticism of Trump from Derec on name calling.
Of course Trump is wrong for his language. But I don't usually comment where there is broad agreement on the forum. Just dittoing each other is not very interesting. What is interesting is those that abhor Trump's style, and yet "yas, girl!" Crockett for doing similar things.

Yes, getting excited about polls is premature. But it is not too early to think about suitable candidates. Note that Abbott is governor, and this Occupy Democrats article is gassing up Crockett for the Senate race against John Cornyn, not the gubernatorial race.

Speaking of Abbott, he did not exactly run away with it in 2022 (he got just under 55% of the vote) against β, who infamously wants to take away people's AR15s away. If they nominate good candidates, Dems could make both the Senate race and the gubernatorial race interesting.
I do not think Crockett is a good fit for either race though.

Calling her ghetto - how original.

My ilk defending her? Who ate my ilk and how are they defending her?

Interesting - I find hypocrisy irritating and boring.

Maybe they have another person in mind.

It's more to do with uncouth behavior. And she is definitely displaying that.
You think calling a black woman “ghetto” is not uncouyh?

You have to ask? [/quote] That is a response not an answer.
