2026 Mid-Term Elections

Seriously? It's more than fifteen months to election day.

Come back in fourteen and a half months.
They've been having political ads on already for over a month now where I live. I'm in a competitive district and the Senate is up for grabs. I feel for those in Georgia too. This is going to be a hard 18 months. Could be a boon for libraries as the political ads might get people to read more, to avoid the ads.

Ok, I am sure you know campaigning never ends in the good ol' USofA.
Ever consider that maybe that constant campaigning is part of the problem? I am sure part of the huge number of lazy, ignorant no-shows you have at elections are due to fatigue at the constant campaigning.
Not really. The fatigue will impact the people that do pay attention.
An historical anomaly perhaps. Is there a logistic benefit to it?
Yes, harder for minorities to vote on a work day.

You have elections every second year on the "same" day (1st Tuesday after 1st Monday).

You vote for Representatives every time. Every second election you also vote for President.

Generally two elections out of three you'll vote for a Senator...

In 1792 most people lived on farms.
Harvest was done by November.
Tuesday because everyone went to church on Sunday.
Voting was done at the county seat.
It gave people time to get there.

Sherrod Brown has announced he is running for JD Vance' senate seat in Ohio. There is a Republican appointed to that seat at present.

I don't like Brown's odds, but the mid-term should be more advantageous in an election cycle that typically targets the party in power. Ohio keeps swinging to the right, though. If Ramaswamy gets the nomination for Governor, that could hurt the down ticket in the State... or maybe it could help. The right-wing has become so toxic, it really is getting hard to tell these days.

Elise Stefanic just got booed offstage at one of her rare rallies. Almost all Republicans are becoming toxic to the voters. Voters also see the BBB as one of the worst peices of legislation passed in decades and a betrayal to the voters.

Prob’ly cuz they think it stands for Better Business Bureau.
From what I'm hearing people screaming about at Republican rallies and town halls, people seem to know exactly what it is.

I wouldn't put your hopes up too high. Yes, the Trump Admin is nervous. That is why they are trying to fix elections in Texas and had Stefanik stay in the House. The left is mobilized. The question is just how upset are moderates. They aren't pleased, but they aren't angry yet. With prices starting to creep up, the question will be if they dullards fall for it being "Biden's fault".

Libs trying to subvert America?
Real conservatives don’t complain about jackboots.

Not until it's on their neck. But then it will be too late.

I think getting excited about poll numbers now for an election in over a year is a waste of energy.
Excited?
I’m not even one bit optimistic; I believe that the most likely outcome of the ‘26 elections at this point, is that the Fascists actually gain seats in both houses as well as State legislatures.
The turnout will favor zealots, as centrists, moderates and apathetics stay home. It will be as rigged as the Trump mob can possibly make it, and they will publicize that fact prior to the elections as a deterrent to voting

Surely just Soros-paid Democratic protestors, right?

Democrat swings the vote ~22 points in special election in Iowa to win. The GOP representative won last election by 11 points. The Democrat won by 10.5. This is a reason why the GOP is trying to fix the 2026 election. This is another very bad special election for the GOP.

I wish that link (or Martin) was really accurate in its assessment:

“Iowans are seeing Republicans for who they are: self-serving liars who will throw their constituents under the bus to rubber stamp Donald Trump’s disastrous agenda — and they’re ready for change," Martin said in a statement.

I doubt very much that “Iowans” are truly seeing what’s happening, and that they believe that Republicans in general are self-serving liars. I believe a some of them have a vague unease and a little bit of a bad taste in their mouth, but it’s still proudly “Trump Country”.

Elise Stefanik is still in the House because the GOP was scared to death of losing that seat. They've been putting out negative ads for well over a month now. Things are historically difficult for the party in power in a mid-term election. That is just the way it is. But the GOP has been going hard and their plans haven't been very popular, except among the alt-right woke.

This is why they are re-gerrymandering Texas, and looking to do it against in Ohio and Missouri.
