2028 Presidential Election

https://ballotpedia.org/Andy_Beshear

Beshear is my first choice, but I will vote for any Democrat who wins in the primaries. I don't think AOC has a chance and while I like Harris, I don't see her having a chance. In fact, Imo, this fucking country isn't going to elect a woman in my life time, Behear is a Democrat who won in a very red state. He's young, and somewhat moderate but very decent and seems open minded. Any Democrat who could win in a state as red as Kentucky must be doing something right.

Andy Beshear (Democratic Party) is the Governor of Kentucky. He assumed office on December 10, 2019. His current term ends on December 7, 2027.

Beshear received a bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University and a J.D. from the University of Virginia. After graduating from law school, Beshear was a partner at Stites & Harbison, where he specialized in consumer and nonprofit law.<a href="https://ballotpedia.org/Andy_Beshear#cite_note-Bio-1">[1]</a>

Beshear won the 2015 Kentucky Attorney General election, defeating Whitney Westerfield (R) 50.1%-49.9%. As attorney general, Beshear sued then-Gov. Matt Bevin (R) on four separate occasions, winning two of those suits. The Kentucky Supreme Court ruled 5-2 in favor of Beshear, who sued Bevin for abusing executive powers as governor by wrongfully making budget cuts to the state's university system without the Kentucky General Assembly's approval.<a href="https://ballotpedia.org/Andy_Beshear#cite_note-2">[2]</a> The court also unanimously struck down Kentucky Senate Bill 151 regarding teachers' pensions, which Bevin had signed into law.<a href="https://ballotpedia.org/Andy_Beshear#cite_note-3">[3]</a> According to Beshear's website, he focused on suing opioid manufacturers and distributors, arresting child predators, protecting seniors from fraud and abuse, and protecting teachers' pensions.<a href="https://ballotpedia.org/Andy_Beshear#cite_note-govky-4">[4]</a>

Beshear won the 2019 election for governor of Kentucky against Bevin 49.2%-48.8%. During his campaign, Beshear said, "Governors have a moral responsibility to act with decency, to do their best, to provide good-paying jobs, and to provide justice to all Kentuckians."<a href="https://ballotpedia.org/Andy_Beshear#cite_note-5">[5]</a> Beshear campaigned on his healthcare and education policies and said he would enact consumer protections based on the Affordable Care Act and increase public education funding.<a href="https://ballotpedia.org/Andy_Beshear#cite_note-6">[6]</a><a href="https://ballotpedia.org/Andy_Beshear#cite_note-7">[7]</a>Beshear's 2019 victory changed Kentucky's trifecta status from a Republican trifecta to a divided government.

As governor, Beshear has supported infrastructure projects to build the Brent Spence Companion Bridge and the Mountain Parkway Expansion in Eastern Kentucky. Beshear signed legislation legalizing sports betting and cannabis for medical use and expanding access to Medicaid.<a href="https://ballotpedia.org/Andy_Beshear#cite_note-govky-4">[4]</a><a href="https://ballotpedia.org/Andy_Beshear#cite_note-8">[8]</a> According to Beshear's website, Kentucky was one of eight states that decreased drug overdose deaths during his administration after signing two pieces of legislation that increased resources for drug treatment and recovery programs.<a href="https://ballotpedia.org/Andy_Beshear#cite_note-govky-4">[4]</a><a href="https://ballotpedia.org/Andy_Beshear#cite_note-9">[9]</a>

Beshear won re-election in 2023, defeating former Attorney General Daniel Cameron (R) 52.5%-47.5% — a 4.6 percentage point margin-of-victory increase compared to 2019.
What do you mean by the comment that he is somewhat moderate ?

What do you mean by the comment that he is somewhat moderate ?
I just mean that he's not far left, pretty much in the middle, by US political standards. I'm still learning about him, but based on what I've read so far, I like him and he seems like a good candidate. He just needs to get out and mingle more.

This is starting to get weird.
article said:
Vice President JD Vance and the Secret Service were sent scrambling after an agent assigned to his security detail reportedly spilled sensitive security information to a Tinder date who turned out to be an undercover reporter.

According to The Daily Beast, "The agent, Tomas Escotto, was placed on administrative leave on Wednesday after a 14-minute undercover video published by reporter James O’Keefe showed the agent casually divulging details about the Vice President’s travel plans and internal shift operations. O’Keefe said the woman Escotto met through the dating app Tinder in October was working undercover for O’Keefe Media Group."
For those sensitive to certain names, yes... that James O'Keefe. The guy that ran the fake investigative organization Veritass. Veritass ran into problems with breaking the law, so O'Keefe needed to move on. Now he has his media group.

But the peculiar thing here is he targeted the VP's security. This would appear to imply that O'Keefe is working for another faction in this afterbirth of the GOP.

but I'm not sure he'd be such a good choice, although one of my dogs would be a better choice compared to the mentally disturbed person we have in office now
Of course Newsom is a stinker of a choice.

The fucker is as limp as Schumer in his own way. The fucker just met with Shapiro of all people and spent the better half of it sucking fascist dick.

Newsom is, and has always been, controlled opposition: someone that idiots will vote for (and if it's the primary, ONLY idiots), and which will do nothing in office if they actually get it.

He is a Hillary, a Biden, a Pelosi and a Schumer.

We need a Walz not a Newsom.

WTF are you talking about? Schumer was the first Senate Majority leader to get two reconciliation bills passed in the Senate. Without Schumer, Biden would have signed virtually nothing.

I think you missed the part where Schumer rolled over on the shutdown and let the GOP win literally everything they asked for in exchange for a fucking pinky promise.

Schumer does not know how to play hardball, and it shows.

Neither does Newsom, really. He's as plastic as Pelosi when we need steel.

You have no clue what you are talking about. You sound like a Cleveland Browns fan.

Said like someone who makes a very effective controlled opposition.

Since Harris lost > $1B USD on her fling at the presidency why would you bet on her?
Cus I voted for her and I'd vote for her again. I think 'Integrety' will be the defining issue in '28.
In addition to the whole switching people on the ticket issue.
She did pretty good in spite of that. That won't be an issue next time.

Maybe not rolling over or doing nothing? We have literally DECADES of Republican playbook to work off of for working an agenda.

Take your pick?

Regardless, this assumes only Schumer could have done what Schumer did with regards to Biden, granted Biden and the structures which railroaded the party with him are a major part of the problem, and right now they're lining up a good deal of force behind Newsom.

I'm telling you as surely as I think certain false feminists speak pretty fluent "Nazi", with the same certainty that had paramilitary occupations in Minneapolis foretold over a year ago that Newsom and Schumer are a part of the problem here.

At the very least we need "whatever actions by someone not resigned to peaceful surrender to fascism".

Preferably they would be the outwardly peaceful acts of someone that would sooner die trying to stop someone who would crown themselves king, and is fully prepared to do so. They would be the acts of a person ready for war to preserve the principles of democratic governance.

I would have the actions of someone with a stomach for war.

I'd like to put 5 bucks on Jasmine Crockett. She probably doesn't want the job, but I'd vote for her.
I'm a bad gambler. I'm not thinking about who would probably win. I'm betting on people I want to win.
I vote that way too. I have only ever voted for one presidential canadate who actualy won.
Biden. But I was realy just voteing against Rump.

I'll put money against Vance, Hegseth, Mike Johnson. Or against any Repug actually.

So you cannot specify what he should have done. He just should have done... something.

So, I had a big post responding to ZiprHead, but the fact is, I just saw a video of some furry from Minneapolis getting tackled from behind without warning and assaulted by ICE while dancing in the street.

Minneapolis is under the occupation I said it would be placed under, and Trump has promised additional escalation in a number of recent unhinged rants, some of which look more like Stephen Miller's work.

So, fuck literally everyone who has given any single inch to this administration, or to anyone who would give such an inch.

Without the immediate formation of a serious, well-organized resistance to this, the US will become a Nazi nation. Maybe it's too fucking late.

Besides, I think we both know why I'm not actually speaking my mind about the things a leader should do to defend democracy in this climate.

Well, I like and admire Walz in many ways but Trump is preparing to send the 101 Airborne out of AK to Minnesota. Which means that Trump sees Walz as a threat but also an opportunity.

So… a vast improvement over present conditions.
Not that I disagree with Newsom’s vacuity*, but we need to learn the lesson of electability that Trump should have taught us; Central Casting Candidates beat smart sensible people every time. That’s Newsom vs Walz.

* he is a relentless mocker, so not an entirely empty vessel.

We are fucked.
We have two optionns,
(a) Fight back, and play into his hands, risk the inserection act.
(b) Continue peaceful risistance, appear weak, and he invades more citys. (and more countrys)
