I don't think he said that.

Yeah, I tried googling it. He's only quoted saying things in support of Puerto Ricans. From what I can find.

We shouldn't be trolling just because the alt right assholes are. And we don't have to. He keeps saying dumb shit all the time. He doesn't need our help

I'm not going to say that Trump has reached a new level of bizarre. Because this is just in line with all the other nonsense. Trump claims China was irresponsible, handled Covid-19 badly and should take responsibility for spreading it, in spite of China being the best in the world at stopping the spread, and USA among the worst. It's no exageration to say that Trump has been the biggest hurdle the world has had in combating Covid-19. The obstructionist fucking idiot.

How dumb does any of his voters need to be not to see through this idiotic statement

It’s all a matter of where one sources their news. We’re not all living in the same reality here. His voters may know little of the virus in comparison to other countries. If they do, they may be associating higher rates here with personal freedoms.

China fucked up royally. There is no denying this. Their "stop of the spread" is imaginary as it got out everywhere else.
...and USA among the worst.
Indeed, this is the fallacious bullshit that we have come to expect. 200,000 dead, 250,000 excess deaths, and the death toll is likely higher as other types of deaths are reduced due to the lack of bars being open and the like. And we are told that because it is better than 2,000,000, this is a success... A+ success. And the red hats are applauding his failure. The Emperor's clothes have never looked more fancy!

The obfuscation skills of the right-wing are unparalleled.

Clinton lied under oath over a blowjob. -> Impeachment

9/11 -> We really don't want to investigate this.

Benghazi/Emails -> Over a dozen investigations.

200,000+ dead, leading the world in death by a long shot despite our isolation -> 4 more years! 4 more years!

American democracy is dead.

I don't think China fucked up royaly. This virus is exceedingly hard to contain. It can spread undetected among people who show no symptoms. Initially there were no tests to track it.

It was identified 27/12. Working backward they worked out that the first case was 1/12. By that time it had had almost an entire month to spread freely. Until it was fully identified and we knew how it worked there's no way to justify any lockdown or draconian measures. People have weird unexplained symptoms for shit all the time. Usually it's nothing. The world can't function is we go nuclear each time. China still had no idea how serious it was.

9/1 China publishes the fully sequenced genome. This is when we learn that it's closely related to SARS and MERS. In both of these other diseases it's only transmissable when people are clearly sick. They had no reason to believe that Covid-19 could spread asymptomatically. So there was still no reason to go with full lockdown. They also had all the infrascture left from successfully fighting SARS. They had no reason to think they weren't on top of things.

23/1 It's clear that Covid-19 cannot be contained like SARS and from here China acts rapidly, going into total lockdown of Hubei province. And manages to successfully kill the spread. But too late. At this point it had already spread outside China.

I think it's unfair to criticise China for their handling of Covid-19. I'm no fan of China. It's a totalitarian nightmare of a nation. But in this case I think they did everything right. I don't know of any virologist or epidemiologist that slams China for how they handled Covid-19. China has, throughout all of this, been cooperative and helpful. Did they handle everything perfectly? Of course not. To expect and demand that is rediculous. But overall they've handled themselves excellently.

They arrested the doctor who tried to get the word out on the virus... and subsequently died of said virus. China has serious issues. It does not, however, negate Trump's failure in any such way.

Meh. The scientific world is full of mavericks with their own novel ideas. Nearly all are nonsense. In the west we don't arrest doctors with non-mainstream beliefs, we simply fire them and ostracise them. Make sure they can't make a living within the field. It's nice if they get acknowleged later. But there's no shortage of doctors like that who get validated very late or after their deaths.

As far as I can tell China did due dilegence. Only after it was established beyond a doubt that this was a new deadly virus did they acknowledge it. At that point they moved very fast.

It also wasn't particulaly secret. The Wuhan Coronavirus/SARS-lab was full of American researchers with full access to everything they were doing. At any time the American researchers on site could have picked up the phone and called CDC. But they didn't. Because they weren't sure either.

They've discussed this on the podcast, This Week i Virology. People just love being conspiratorial about this. They've even had American guests who were in the Wuhan lab at the time taking part in the work.

The virology community is international, exceedingly open and generous with sharing data. The Chinese chief of the Wuhan lab has a great reputation internationally. It was she who took Xi Jinping by the ear and told him what to do. Not the other way around.

agreed--as well, China opposed being locked down internationally at first--probably our of economic concerns. One thing that Trump did right about the Pandemic was put a partial ban on travel from china in place, fairly early on.

It was not early enough, and he failed to ban travel from Europe, which is how the virus reached the US (via NY). Evidence of this is that NY was the first major travel hub in the US to have a massive outbreak, whereas California came significantly later. People traveling to the US from China MUST stop on the west coast. People traveling to the US from Europe MUST stop on the East coast. Obviously the US was infected by European travel, and not Asian travel.

I think they were also able to determine this (the NY outbreak came from Europe) from a genetic analysis of the virus itself, if I recall what I've read correctly.

But the real question is this: if there is any action that Trump could have taken that would have resulted in even as little as *four* fewer American deaths, why isn't it being investigated at least as much as Benghazi was?

Oh wait..I think I know the answer...

That is correct

It looks like it was already had spread beyond China even before the first reports that were shushed up.

Error: Travel ban not found.

His Flatulence put a ban on non-Americans. He did nothing meaningful about quarantining Americans even when they thought they might be exposed. And he did it only after people weren't traveling much anyway.
