Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

It was just one guy's tweet, not some coordinated right wing attack. He ended up deleting his account, maybe sorry for bringing AOC so much good PR.

Let's hope she becomes as good at legislating as she is attractive and memeable.

Enjoy, https://mobile.twitter.com/aoc_dances
I wouldn't be so sure it is Republicans who are trying to marginalize her. So far she's a threat only to establishment Democrats (neoliberals).

Oh, don't sell the Republitards short - they're definitely ramping up to vilify her. It looks like it's going to take them a while to figure out an effective way, but never fear - alternative facts go a long way with their base!

Democratic Socialists are full-on socialists, i.e. they want public ownership of means of production.

Good to learn I'm not a Democratic Socialist. At least in your perverted book...

Democrats: We need to appeal to the base of centrists who will actually go out and vote in elections even if it alienates those on the left

And here's the increase in 2018:

Wikipedia said:
Democratic socialism is a political philosophy that advocates political democracy alongside social ownership of the means of production[1] with an emphasis on self-management and democratic management of economic institutions within a market or some form of decentralized planned socialist economy.[2] Democratic socialists hold that capitalism is inherently incompatible with what they hold to be the democratic values of liberty, equality and solidarity; and that these ideals can only be achieved through the realization of a socialist society. Democratic socialism can be supportive of either revolutionary or reformist politics as a means to establish socialism.

DSA is particular are fans of Marx too.

It was a softball. The person or persons who put it out knew it was soft. It seems to me that they knew It would keep her in the spotlight in the news without damaging the democratic leadership.

Republicans usually aren't afraid to put their names to stuff like this.

You're confused. DSA might be a fringe looney group for all I know, but I know they don't speak for all those who consider themselves Democratic Socialists.
Do you also think that all independents subscribe to the libertarian "Independence Party"? You know, the one that deceptively named themselves to glean phony membership?

We do. This whole pivot well to the left won't work. The GOP have successfully demonized very popular ideas. Bernie Sanders would have lost to Trump because he was a "radical" and out of touch with the "common American" despite having a platform most Americans want.

Democratic Socialists of America membership growth stats:
10,000 to 30,000... nice. Just a couple zeros from 3 million.

Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez is a member of the DSA.

They aren't running any candidates, of course. Not that kind of party. But they were less than 10k strong for their entire existence (since 1982) and in just two years have grown almost 5-fold. There are membership dues and all, so it's not like anybody who agrees with them would just join. The number of people who are just sitting around in the more-than-half the country who doesn't vote aren't necessarily reflected in the opinion polls, so I wouldn't be surprised if a more progressive DNC captured a huge swath of people, potentially outnumbering those in the middle they might somehow scare away. Obviously that won't be happening anytime soon, with Schumer and Pelosi running the show.

I am okay with the fact that Ocasio-Cortez is a socialist. In fact, given that she 1. is a democratic socialist, 2. triggers conservative snowflakes, 3. has a great personality, and 4. looks pretty, I think I am in love. No, wait, it's not love, it's obsession.

Can you please name me the Sanders backed progressives that won in the US Senate in 2018 or even the primaries?

There is room for some progressives in the House, but you are reaching way too far if you think the well hasn't been poisoned by the Republicans... not that socialists have ever enjoyed better than tepid support in the US going back to the late 19th century.

Really?
Okay, sign me up. I like her. I hope she can tolerate some of my ... uh, less than liberal friends.

I am not.
1. The wiki definition is of the term "democratic socialism" in general, not linked to any particular group.
2. DSA is not a "fringe" group. I think they are loony, sure, but that's beside the point.
3. DSA is the democratic socialist group AOC is affiliated with. AOC is who this thread is about.

Do you also think that all independents subscribe to the libertarian "Independence Party"? You know, the one that deceptively named themselves to glean phony membership?
Not the same thing. "Independent" really means not affiliated with the two major parties in the US. It covered a wide range of political leanings and positions.
"Democratic socialism" is an actual political philosophy.

I am okay with the fact that Ocasio-Cortez is a socialist.
No surprise there.

In fact, given that she 1. is a democratic socialist, 2. triggers conservative snowflakes,
You still haven't learned the meaning of either "to trigger" and "snowflake" I see.

3. has a great personality, and 4. looks pretty,
Debatable.

2/10. Would not bang (except doggy style).

I think I am in love. No, wait, it's not love, it's obsession.
Be careful, lest AOC #metoo you ...

I don't agree with a lot of her political positions, but I loved her dancing video. What the fuck is wrong with dancing? Are these critics all conservative Baptists? It's like when the assholes posted a photo of Obama smoking what looked like a joint when he was in college. It only added to his image as the cool president.

I do love her energy, her enthusiasm and her optimism. She's young and inexperienced and she has a lot to learn, but the thing I like best about the Democratic party is its diversity of thought, and ideology, as well as the diversity of ethnicity, gender, religious beliefs, etc. It does make it harder to compromise, but that's the way it should be. Democrats are a better reflection of the country. The Republicans on the other hand, frequently remind me of sheep. I prefer cats to sheep.
Agree. The democrats need her a LOT more than they do Hillary, thats for certain.

Bernie Sanders would have lost to Trump because he was a "radical" and out of touch with the "common American" despite having a platform most Americans want.
.

But he had a LOT better morality and values. I still think he could have beaten Trump if Hillary would have got out of the way.

Pffft. Rhetorical garbage. I believe in a representative democracy - not as an ideal but as the best currently attainable form of government for the USA. I also believe that "socializing" some important functions would improve it. But giving government ownership of all means of production isn't one of them.
Call it what you like.

Do you also think that all independents subscribe to the libertarian "Independence Party"? You know, the one that deceptively named themselves to glean phony membership?

"Democratic socialism" is an actual political philosophy.

You mean there is no "Independence Party" trying to get people to check a box, thinking they are simply saying they are unaffiliated with dems or reps, but are actually signing up for Independence Party membership?
Oh my!
